Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar said on November 4 that state-backed religious persecution is “impossible” in Nigeria, citing the country’s constitutional commitment to religious freedom and rule of law.
Speaking in Berlin alongside German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Tuggar responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning of potential “fast” military action if Nigeria fails to stop attacks on Christians by Islamist insurgents.
Tuggar held up an official document titled “Nigeria’s Constitutional Commitment to Religious Freedom and Rule of Law,” emphasizing that Nigeria’s constitution and federal laws protect religious liberty across all levels of government.
