00:00Hello and welcome to the Dark Mystery Lounge.

00:03This is going to be the final Halloween story time for the season, and I saved the spookiest for last.

00:08We will explore one of the most haunted roads in the U.S., nicknamed the Devil's Highway and the Highway to Hell, Highway 666.

00:21Let's go on a journey.

00:22A journey down a winding stretch of desert road that spans from Colorado through Utah and ends in Gallup, New Mexico.

00:30There are beautiful rock formations and cactus plants decorating the landscape.

00:35You've heard of tales and stories of bad things happening on Highway 666, but those are just stories, right?

00:41They can't be real.

00:43As the sun sets, your chest becomes overwhelmed with a sense of dread, like something bad is going to happen.

00:48The moon rises and all seems calm when you hear the sound of another car roaring behind you.

00:54Looking in the mirror, there's nothing.

00:57But out of nowhere, a pair of headlights shine brightly as the car approaches from behind faster and faster.

01:03There seems to be no signs of the car slowing down, so you pull over to let them pass.

01:08Obviously someone who seems to be in a hurry.

01:11As the car passes, you try to catch a glimpse to see who could possibly be speeding.

01:16But something is wrong.

01:17There appears to be no driver in the seat.

01:20Trying to shake off what just happened, you continue to drive.

01:23After what seems like only a short period of time, with no other cars in sight,

01:28you hear the roaring engine of a semi-truck approaching from the opposite lane.

01:33It's heading towards you, almost like it's trying to hit you.

01:36Quickly veering off the road to avoid being hit, you take a deep breath,

01:40trying to figure out again what the hell just happened.

01:43Stepping out of the car to make sure everything is fine,

01:46you see a woman wearing what looks like a white nightgown.

01:49You approach her asking to see if she's okay, but she doesn't speak a word.

01:53She just looks at you with a sad and unnerving expression on her face.

01:57When you're just close enough to almost touch her, she vanishes into thin air,

02:02and everything falls eerily silent.

02:04Running back to your car and trying to figure out what you saw was real or not,

02:08you begin driving again.

02:10It's not long until you see the signs that you're approaching the New Mexico border heading south.

02:15There appears to be a hitchhiker on the side of the road.

02:18As you slow down, they too disappear.

02:21And you're feeling that you are being followed as you gain speed again.

02:25Out of the passenger side window, there appears to be a pack of dogs following alongside.

02:30You floor it, thinking that you can outrun them with your car.

02:33But looking back out the window, you notice that they are matching your speed.

02:37Then you hear one of them hit your car, and another jumps on the hood.

02:41Swerving off the road, as soon as you stop, they're gone.

02:45What the hell is going on?

02:46Where did those dogs come from?

02:48Is this just my imagination playing tricks on me?

02:51Ever since I got on this road, everything I encounter is trying to kill me.

02:55I don't have far to go.

02:56I've got to get the hell out of here, you exclaim.

02:59Once in New Mexico, passing through the Navajo Nation Reservation,

03:03you see a few more hitchhikers, but you don't even bother to slow down.

03:07After what happened last time, there appears to be some kind of creature in the middle of the road,

03:12but it's hard to make out.

03:13It walks in a strange way on all fours, but as you drive closer, it starts walking on two legs.

03:19You haul ass out of there and away from whatever the hell that thing is.

03:23It's not long before you arrive at your destination in Gallup, New Mexico.

03:27You travel to see a friend, but when you arrive, they look at you like they've seen a ghost.

03:32Where have you been, your friend says.

03:35What are you talking about? I didn't take that long to get here, you reply.

03:39You've been gone for several weeks.

03:41We thought something bad happened to you, your friend says.

03:44You shake your head in disbelief until you see the date of your friend's phone is different than yours,

03:50and you didn't receive a single text message nor phone call.

03:53In that moment, you realize all those stories were true, about Satan's sedan, the ghost's semi-truck,

04:00the hounds from hell, the pale spirit, and even the skinwalkers.

04:04Even the time distortion rumors appear to be true as well.

04:08You quietly vow to yourself, I will never travel on Highway 666 ever again.

04:14I hope you enjoyed that little story.

04:16The history of the infamous haunted Highway 666 has been around for a long time.

04:20These kind of encounters have been reported by actual witnesses.

04:25This highway was built back in 1926, and ever since then, it has had a series of accidents and deaths occur more than usual.

04:33In 2003, New Mexico renumbered US-666 to US-491.

04:38Colorado and Utah did the same shortly after.

04:41Some people, after hearing about the change, actually went out and stole almost all of the black and white Route 666 signs.

04:49Not just unbolting them from the signs, but some actually took the poles as well.

04:54Whether this stopped hauntings or not, I don't know.
