00:00Hello and welcome to the Dark Mystery Lounge.

00:02Something that I've always been interested in is finding out the backstory of abandoned YouTube channels.

00:08Diving deep into the mind of that person.

00:11That's what makes Class It Up 10 so interesting.

00:14So let's take a look at Class It Up 10, an abandoned YouTube channel with a dark story.

00:25Taking a look at how this person's channel looked like back in the day,

00:29it really doesn't have much to it.

00:32Just a handful of videos and his profile is filled out.

00:36This channel was started in October 25, 2010.

00:40If it isn't already obvious whose channel this belongs to,

00:43this is Jared Lee Lopner's channel.

00:46And this was actually his last channel.

00:48He had a few channels on YouTube to express his hatred for various topics.

00:53Jared Lee Lopner was born September 10, 1988 in Tucson, Arizona.

00:59He was the only child born to Randy and Amy Lopner.

01:02He grew up normal, happy, and healthy.

01:05He played the saxophone in school and had many friends and had a girlfriend.

01:10He said he was a very sweet and caring guy.

01:12But somewhere in his high school years, things began to change in Jared.

01:16He dropped out of high school in 2006.

01:19He was taking various drugs and drinking.

01:21He went from being a laid-back stoner to an angry person.

01:26He always had his views about politics, registering as an independent, and was anti-government.

01:31He stopped hanging out with his friends and broke up with his girlfriend, becoming a loner, spending his time online.

01:37He had a few jobs, but they all fired him after his change in behavior became worse.

01:42He had a long-standing hatred for Gabrielle Gabby Giffords, a congresswoman who represented Arizona's 8th Congressional District.

01:52Jared held the belief that women should not hold positions of power, calling them fake.

01:57Charming.

01:57On August 25, 2007, Jared attended an event where Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was taking questions.

02:06When it was his turn to ask a question, he asked,

02:09What is government if words have no meaning?

02:12She really didn't know how to answer that, so she just ignored him and moved on to another question.

02:17This clearly pissed off Jared, stoking the flame of hatred even further.

02:21From February to September of 2010, Jared enrolled at Pima Community College.

02:28During this time, he would get into trouble for disturbing and disruptive behavior.

02:32As his mental health was deteriorating, he even laughed at a woman who'd written a poem about abortion,

02:38making inappropriate comments, calling her a murderer.

02:42The final straw was the video.

02:44It is from his first channel, which is now deleted.

02:46It only had one video titled,

02:49Pima Community College School, Genocide Slash Scam, Pre-Education, Broken United States Constitution.

02:57It was uploaded to YouTube on September 23, 2010.

03:01He's just walking around campus recording and ranting about his anger at the college itself.

03:07Well, that was the final straw for Pima College,

03:10who suspended him until he got a mental health evaluation

03:13and gave them a copy of a clean bill of mental health.

03:17That obviously never happened.

03:19Instead, he just made more videos.

03:22His second channel only had one video uploaded on October 2nd.

03:27It's of him in a hoodie, a garbage bag, and a mask on.

03:31He cuts up and burns an American flag while Bodies by a Drowning Pool is playing in the background.

03:37I think his timing was a bit off,

03:39because after the entire song plays,

03:41it's just silence for the rest of the video.

03:44The first video from his third channel wasn't uploaded until November 22, 2010.

03:50It's just text while music plays in the background.

03:53That seems to be the theme for all five videos he uploaded.

03:56He talks about currency in this video.

03:58You can clearly see that it just doesn't make any sense.

04:02The second video was uploaded a week later.

04:04However, he's complaining about Pima Community College.

04:08Once again, makes no real sense.

04:10But to Jared, it makes complete sense.

04:13About a week later, he uploads a very short video,

04:16supposedly about mind control.

04:19The fourth video was uploaded on December 15,

04:22and it's the most popular one,

04:24titled, Hello.

04:25It is very short,

04:26and it's supposed to be an introduction to his channel,

04:29even though he made other videos prior to this.

04:32He talks about conscience dreaming,

04:35then about currency again.

04:36He wants you to be literate,

04:38and when he talks about District 8,

04:40remember what I said about Gabby Giffords,

04:42and who she represents?

04:44Yeah, he's talking about where he lives,

04:46and how everyone is controlled by grammar.

04:48His final video was uploaded on the same day,

04:51titled,

04:52Introduction, Jared Lopner.

04:54He has the same talking points again about currency,

04:57language, and dreaming.

04:58But what makes this video chilling to me is at the end.

05:02The final couple of seconds,

05:04it reads,

05:05What is government if words don't have meaning?

05:07Which is what Jared asked the congresswoman three years ago.

05:11It was radio silence from Jared after that,

05:20at least on YouTube.

05:21On January 8, 2011,

05:24at 4 a.m.,

05:25Jared made a MySpace post,

05:27reading,

05:28Goodbye, friends.

05:29Please don't be mad at me.

05:30The literacy rate is below 5%.

05:32I haven't talked to one person who is literate.

05:35I want to make it out alive.

05:36The longest war in the history of the United States.

05:40Goodbye.

05:40I am saddened with the current currency and job employment.

05:44I had a bully at school.

05:46P.S.

05:47Plead the fifth.

05:48He also posted a photo of a handgun

05:50sitting atop a document titled,

05:53United States History.

05:54Gathering up ammo and supplies,

05:56he was pulled over for running a red light,

05:59but got off with a warning.

06:00He took a taxi to Safeway Supermarket,

06:03where there was a Congress on Your Corner event

06:05with Congresswoman Gabby Giffords,

06:07just outside of the store.

06:09Jared went inside the store briefly.

06:11When he approached the table,

06:13he was told to get in line and wait his turn.

06:15He did so for about a minute.

06:17Then he ran up to the front of the line

06:19and shot the Congresswoman in the head

06:21at 10.10 a.m.

06:23He started shooting into the crowd multiple times

06:25before his gun jammed.

06:27As he was trying to reload his weapon,

06:29that's when a crowd of people tackled him to the ground

06:32and beat the mess out of him.

06:33Even one guy told him,

06:35if you move, I will choke you.

06:37He tried, and the guy did exactly that.

06:40Police and ambulances responded quickly.

06:42Jared was arrested.

06:43All he said was,

06:45I plead the fifth.

06:46When the dust settled,

06:47six people were dead,

06:49including a nine-year-old little girl,

06:51and 13 were injured.

06:52Despite taking a bullet to the head,

06:54Gabby Giffords survived,

06:56but was in critical condition.

06:58When Jared was booked,

06:59he had the biggest grin on his face.

07:01If this is in the face of a mentally ill man,

07:04I don't know what is.

07:05He was truly pleased with himself.

07:13Jared was charged in federal court

07:15with one count of attempted assassination

07:18of a member of Congress,

07:20two counts of murder of a federal employee,

07:23Giffords' aide and Judge Roll,

07:25and two counts of attempting to murder

07:27a federal employee

07:28based on his injury of two of Giffords' aides.

07:32He was indicted on three of the charges

07:34on January 19, 2011.

07:37He was held without bail

07:39in the Federal Correctional Institution at Phoenix.

07:42He was kept in isolation from the other inmates.

07:45When it came time for the initial pleading,

07:47Jared pled not guilty to all 49 charges.

07:50He was smiling and had not one bit of remorse.

07:53There were questions about his mental capacity.

07:56On May 25, 2011,

07:58Judge Burns ruled Jared was incompetent

08:01to stand trial based on two medical evaluations.

08:04He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.

08:07Once he was treated,

08:08then the trial can proceed.

08:10He was treated with antipsychotic medication,

08:13Resperdal, which seemed to work.

08:15He even started to show remorse for his actions.

08:18He was given another evaluation on August 7, 2012.

08:22Jared was found competent to stand trial.

08:25Before the trial could begin,

08:27Jared and his attorney,

08:29along with the victims and their families,

08:31signed off on a plea deal.

08:33If he pled guilty to 19 of the 49 charges,

08:36then the death penalty would be off the table.

08:39He automatically waived his right to any further appeals

08:42and could not later alter his plea to an insanity plea.

08:46Jared agreed.

08:47So the judge sentenced him to serve seven consecutive life terms

08:51plus 140 years in prison without parole.

08:55Even though he was sentenced at the federal level,

08:57he still could be tried for murder and other crimes in Arizona.

09:01But because the families felt that it wasn't necessary

09:04due to the outcome on the federal level,

09:07they felt like justice was served.

09:09Jared is currently serving his life sentence

09:11at the Federal Medical Center in Rochester, Minnesota,

09:15a prison for inmates with specialized health issues.

09:23Gabby Giffords, even though she was shot in the head,

09:27after surgery and a lot of therapy,

09:29I mean, she had to learn everything all over again.

09:32She had to learn how to talk, walk, read, and write.

09:35Thanks to support from friends and family,

09:38she recovered majority of the way.

09:40She was greeted by a standing ovation

09:42upon her return to the House floor in August 2011.

09:47On January 25, 2012,

09:50she formally submitted her resignation,

09:53receiving a standing ovation and accolades

09:55from her colleagues and the leadership of the House.

09:58Now she's an advocate for gun control.

10:01Majority of Jared's online activity was scrubbed.

10:04His MySpace page was wiped clean,

10:07but for some reason,

10:08his two YouTube accounts remained up and running,

10:11even if the comment section is off,

10:13as well as the like and dislike buttons.

10:16His parents are still shocked

10:18and said they had no idea

10:19that their son was planning anything.

10:22No one knew that he could go from a happy kid

10:24to a stoner to a loner,

10:27then to a killer.

10:28And we have a handful of videos to examine

10:31and wonder if he could have been saved

10:33or, at the very least,

10:35be stopped.

10:36All I know

10:37is that he can no longer hurt anyone else ever again.
