Emirati official acknowledges missteps in Sudan crisis response

00:00An Emirati spokesperson has acknowledged mistakes made in the handling of developments in Sudan.
00:06Anwar Gagash, a presidential diplomatic advisor, made this remark while addressing a question regarding the United Arab Emirates support of the Rapid Support Forces.
00:16We all made the mistake when the two generals who are fighting the civil war today overthrew the civilian government.
00:25That was, in my opinion, looking back, was a critical mistake.
00:29We should have put our foot down, all of us, collectively.
00:34But, you know, it was a time where Sudan was just coming out of American sanctions and et cetera.
00:43And we thought, no, I mean, let's get Sudan out of the American sanctions.
00:47So we did not call it a coup.
00:49We said it's a CO but did not put the UMP at the end.
00:53The Sudan military has been accusing the UAE of supporting the RSF in committing the atrocities that has now resulted in over 40,000 deaths
01:02and created the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
