00:00Six months before her wedding, Joyelle Fleming found out she had breast cancer.

00:04Did six rounds of chemo, then did a double mastectomy.

00:08Once I recovered from double mastectomy, I had 14 rounds of chemo again.

00:15And then I was done.

00:19She documented every step of her cancer journey through Instagram videos.

00:24I wanted people to have another insider view because when you're like Googling,

00:30things and like on WebMD, it's, it's very scary.

00:34Her passion for educating others led to the diagnosis of a family member, her dad.

00:39We were on vacation in Hawaii and I just felt a lump.

00:44It was painful.

00:46That's really what caught my attention.

00:47It was just painful.

00:48The painful lump was stage two breast cancer.

00:51Following the diagnosis, both Fleming's underwent genetic testing.

00:55The results showed no genetic markers in two different types of breast cancer.

00:59This means their diagnosis is purely coincidence.

01:02Despite his diagnosis, Alton knew he had someone to help him through his cancer journey.

01:07When I was diagnosed, I actually was at peace because my daughter just went through this

01:13and she kind of showed me how to go through it.

01:17Father and daughter are now both in remission, but that hasn't stopped their cancer journey.

01:21Both continue to spread the word that self-checks can literally save your life.

01:25It really highlighted to me that men too can have breast cancer.

01:29It's not common and it's only 1% of cases, but men too can and it's important to not ignore symptoms.
