Breast cancer is extremely treatable if caught early, which is why Kimberly Weidel is determined
00:06
to do her part to make sure every woman is screened, whether it's financial burden or
00:11
accessibility. Millions of women pass on annual mammograms. We'll see women who will come in for
00:18
their mammogram and then they have issues with coming back for their diagnostic. They thought
00:24
that was one and done. And then when I start talking about them having to come back, they
00:28
weren't expecting that. And so all of a sudden it becomes, oh my gosh, I had to get that. It took
00:32
me forever to get a screening. Weidel says despite the reasons, women should make the testing a
00:37
priority. It's something that is preventable and it's something that should not take women's and
00:43
men's lives anymore. With the resources that we have, there's really no reason that somebody is
00:51
going years without getting their mammogram. Weidel adds that many cancers are also preventable.
00:56
The biggest mode of prevention? Keeping weight in check. I know that's kind of like a hard subject
01:02
for people to hear, but it is very easy to see the correlation with not being healthy and having
01:09
the extra weight on you when it comes to breast cancer. So being physically active is a way to
01:15
avoid it. Also eat fruits and vegetables, avoid alcohol and stop smoking. Smoking actually causes at
01:22
least 15 types of cancers and breast cancer is one of them. Weidel says if you're 35 and above,
01:28
you don't even need a doctor's order. If you have 20 minutes out of your day that you can spare
01:35
to keep yourself healthy and to make sure there's nothing going on, then we can get it done for you.
