00:00Coming up on today's wrestling news, a major update on MJF returning to AEW.
00:05A WWE star has undergone a name change.
00:08WWE stars win the AAA mixed tag team titles.
00:12And there is an injury slash tag team reunion update as it pertains to WWE.
00:18I'm Adam Wilborn.
00:19I'm Michael Sitchwick.
00:20This is the news.
00:22So let's talk my best friend, Maxwell Jacob Friedman.
00:26Obviously, he's been away for a while now.
00:27A big movie star.
00:30Oh, fancy day.
00:31Too important for his friends, apparently.
00:33No.
00:34Obviously, he did the Iron Claw.
00:36He was in Happy Gilmore 2.
00:37And then recently, he's been off filming Violent Night 2.
00:43We reported a while back his sort of crazy schedule going back and forth between, like, popping up on AEW.
00:49Then I think he was going over to work in Mystico, wasn't he?
00:52And then obviously going over to Winnipeg to film Violent Night 2.
00:56Well, good news.
00:57Fightful coming through with a big update on MJF, saying that we're told that the filming of the movie is set to wrap relatively soon.
01:04Though we've not yet heard when MJF is scheduled to return to AEW.
01:08AW sources indicated that MJF has caught the acting bog and has spoken how much he's enjoyed filming.
01:15They're looking to gain additional updates as and when they can.
01:18Fingers crossed that we get MJF back on our screens very, very soon.
01:23And even if, as I saw people in response to this post, as people are suggesting, we get Hollywood MJF.
01:30Hollywood MJF.
01:31Snooty above it all.
01:33Yeah.
01:33Doesn't want to be there.
01:34That was always, like, a long-running gimmick of his.
01:37I remember one of the, you know, like, AEW's got this really cool lore of, like, match graphics.
01:40Like, Eddie Kingston addresses his enemies and, like, the MJF bar mitzvah one.
01:45Yeah.
01:45It was incredible.
01:46Waterloo versus the plaintiffs.
01:47That was a better gag than it was a match slash attraction.
01:51But there was also that run of, MJF is contractually obliged to appear in Yo City.
01:58So, yeah, they could do something like that.
01:59Look, he is badly needed.
02:02Yeah.
02:02There are two things that, Fright Night Dynamite aside, which had a real, like, spark and creativity.
02:08Your mileage might vary on whether it was, like, you know, too goofy or hokey or whatever.
02:14But at least there was a spark and a sense of creative thrust there.
02:19I would say in the post all in Texas, do I want to call it doldrums or a malaise?
02:25Malaise, yeah, is what I was thinking of.
02:26There's a lot of 7 out of 10s.
02:28A lot of 7 out of 10s.
02:29A lot of dynamites almost defined by, yeah, the action's really good.
02:35The storylines and creative aren't particularly inspiring or must see.
02:41AW is missing two things right now.
02:43They are missing, like, name value and star power with MJF filming, Will Ospreay injured, Swerve Strickland injured, Kenny Omega, like, almost constantly uncertain.
02:58And AEW is also missing straight-up entertainment value.
03:03MJF, you know, he is very, very, very talented.
03:07He is a prodigy for a reason.
03:09He can also offer incredible in-ring matches.
03:11But more importantly, I think, for AEW at this particular phase, when the good matches are almost becoming a little bit, I don't want to say, I'm hesitant to say boring, but just expected.
03:22Like, it would be weird if they didn't have one exciting match every other week.
03:27So MJF is a real big miss on AEW television right now.
03:32Reading the tea leaves here, connecting some dots, you'd expect a return sooner rather than later.
03:37So, yeah, that can only be a good thing.
03:42Yeah, we recorded, it's not gone out yet, we recorded a Talking Heads thing recently about what AEW can learn from this year.
03:48And what I said was, when you have MJF, you really need to utilize him.
03:52Because, understandably, as has been mentioned here, he's a hot commodity, isn't he?
03:57Like, Hollywood clearly like him.
03:59They wouldn't just keep casting him and stuff.
04:01It's like, oh, he was good in that, and now he's good in this, and then they're going to want more and more of him.
04:04Yeah.
04:04So, the limited windows that you have for him, you can't have him just come in and be like, this town's a bit of crap, isn't it?
04:09And then someone will come out and be like, don't say that about our town, you want, you know, like a focus program for him.
04:14And I think Hangman Page, as great as last week's Dynamite was, as you say, I think Hangman Page needs an opponent like MJF as well.
04:21Yeah.
04:22No, I absolutely agree.
04:23And here's the thing, like, if this is starting to snowball, this MJF, Acting, Berg, Hollywood sort of deal, if you're going to use him now as well, it's probably incredibly wise to book him in a really big position on that card.
04:39Because if he's going to get, like, increasing mainstream pub, elicity, and all the rest of it, like, having him as your champion, and then doing, like, the honours for someone, if in fact this starts to become his full-time gig, it's probably a good idea.
04:54It's funny, in the weird world of wrestling, imagining someone being like, Max, we love you so much, we want you to be the next James Bond, and he might be like, right, I'm just going to get rid of this contract that guarantees a title shop, and we don't have to declare a week in advance.
05:07Yeah, I know. Yeah, things might be happening for him.
05:09Yeah.
05:09He's always been so incredible as a TV presence.
05:12Still, I think, in terms of pure wrestling charisma, the most charismatic guy in the entire industry right now, so it feels like if it is heading one way, it doesn't feel like a shock at all.
05:22And speaking of non-shocks, WWE is going back in time, and they're shortening names again.
05:31Zelina Vega has now, according to, you know, WWE programming and the website, is now simply known as Zelina.
05:43It's a slow news day.
05:45Yeah, not a lot going on.
05:46I want to hear, Wilpon, call it a hospital pass, it's not really.
05:50Yeah.
05:50I didn't get a lot of sleep last night.
05:56I was walking up by my cat at 3 o'clock, right, and then I was just tossing and turning, and I really struggled to get back to sleep because I kept thinking, oh, my God, I cannot sleep.
06:09I know I'm going to find out in about five hours, but what on earth does Wilpon think about this Zelina Vega name change?
06:15So, I've been waiting five hours for this, have I?
06:18I don't care.
06:20It's one of those things I...
06:22It is news.
06:23It is.
06:23You can't say it is news.
06:24Yeah, you can't deny it's not news.
06:25It's not old, because it's just happened.
06:27Ergo, it's news.
06:28And technically, it's been published somewhere, therefore, news, okay?
06:32And look...
06:33Aggregation.
06:34I understand why they've done it, because obviously they think wrestling fans are thick, and people would go, wait a second, Zelina Vega?
06:42But she's married to Aleister Black.
06:44How does that work, guys?
06:46So, now they can probably go, Aleister and Zelina, or Zelina and Aleister Black, or whatever you want to call it, or just to be like, here's Aleister Black, and he's Mrs. Zelina.
06:56I will say, right, I thought something to say, thank God, about this.
07:00That often, I don't think people care anymore, to be honest.
07:03I don't even know why we're covering it.
07:05This is the second story, but it is news, as I said.
07:07It's not old.
07:08It just happened.
07:08So, it is news, technically.
07:09It's news.
07:10Right, is WWE gets a lot of, like, just default blanket flack for the name changers.
07:16A lot of them were, in the past, deemed unnecessary.
07:19They have done some cool ones, right, in the past.
07:21Yeah.
07:22Like, one of my, sort of, like, sort of sacrilegious wrestling takes, don't hurt me, is that Cesaro is an infinitely better ring name than Claudio Castagnoli.
07:33Like, infinitely.
07:34In fact, like, Cesaro, it works on that, sort of, if anyone wanted to chant for him, Cesaro.
07:39I would, if I was him, I would have just kept it as Claudio.
07:42Yeah.
07:43Just the four names.
07:44Yeah, I like that.
07:45Castagnoli, it's like, I don't know, man.
07:47It's not the end of the world, it's just a ring name.
07:48Who ultimately cares?
07:50But all I'm saying is, I think Zelina, I think that's a cool name.
07:55Do you remember when they were like, we can't call him Austin Theory, because people hear Austin and think, wait a second, Stone Cold's coming out?
08:02They couldn't be any more different as professional wrestlers.
08:06Shorty G, Chad Gawam, let's shun that up.
08:09What?
08:09That gives me an idea.
08:11Shorty.
08:12Shorty G.
08:14I've got a ruler of my name.
08:17Yeah, she's called Zelina now.
08:18It's fine, whatever.
08:20There is one interesting story coming up, so if the retention is not doing it for the day, we've kept the fourth one.
08:26We've just got some good news, I would say.
08:27Yes, I agree.
08:29Let's move on and talk about new Tag Team Champions spoilers, because this hasn't gone out yet.
08:34Sorry about that, I only just read it in my notes.
08:36All you AAA mega fans.
08:37You seem to surface whenever they do a WWE, AAA sort of joint show, and then you go suspiciously quiet after that, when there's no engagement to be had.
08:47But if you do exist, you might want to skip ahead a few minutes.
08:50Yeah, some good news, actually, if you're a fan, though, of that sort of thing, because Ethan Page and Chelsea Green are the new AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions.
08:59They defeated Michael Hamphlet's favourite, Mr. Iguana and La Yedra.
09:05He's got such a weird brain, Hamphlet, hasn't he?
09:07We've made a list.
09:08You'd expect him to love Mr. Iguana, and he can't sanction his buffoonery.
09:13Me and Sige on the podcast, what called the dressing podcast, wherever you get your podcast from, try and keep a running list, and we will write it down at some point, of the weird things that most people like that Hamphlet is not a fan of.
09:26Christmas.
09:26Christmas.
09:27Christmas, I can understand that, as a father of two, it can be hectic and chaotic, right?
09:33But I don't think the magic has ever struck him, right?
09:36No.
09:37As someone who loves club football, isn't shy about telling me about it when his team does better than mine.
09:43Knack it.
09:44He doesn't like an international football tournament.
09:46Wed.
09:47It's odd.
09:47It's like following, I don't know, I was going to do an analogy, but Americans don't compete with other nations.
09:53No, yeah.
09:54Yeah, so, yeah, it's like a stupid thing.
09:57Yeah.
09:57And he likes wrestling bollocks to the point where if a good match happens now, he's like, whatever.
10:03Yeah, yeah.
10:03That's kind of the point, mate.
10:05But he loves wrestling bollocks, but he will not sanction Mr. Iguana.
10:08No.
10:09And he'll be delighted with this news.
10:10Well, yeah, indeed, post-match, Lola Vice came down to comfort Mr. Iguana, and La Jadra slapped him, so it's seemingly the end of that team.
10:17They, of course, won the tag titles, as we all know, from TNA's Decay back in December of 2024.
10:23So, it's gone all over the place, these titles, basically.
10:27But I think Ethan Page and Chelsea Green will be good value for this.
10:30Well, they've interacted previously on NXT.
10:33Yeah.
10:33Drawn together through their shared love and representation of Canada.
10:40Very old hat, this idea of, I know Canada's great, probably better than the USA, if anything.
10:45Yeah.
10:45Absolute route one, has it ever worked, really, in pro wrestling with, like, you know, in WCW, WWE did it with the Un-Americans.
10:55In Canada in TNA?
10:56Yeah, it says something, right, about the shared charisma and genuinely incredible chemistry between Ethan Page and Chelsea Green.
11:05That is completely old hat fair.
11:08They're over whenever they're in the ring together.
11:10They have a certain chemistry.
11:12It just works.
11:13It just works.
11:14Not genuinely, they're really good together, so I can absolutely see why this has happened.
11:17Yeah, really, really big congratulations to them.
11:20I sense they will be boasting more about it on NXT this week, which we will, of course, be covering.
11:24But speaking of a former NXT act...
11:27Yes, a cult favourite in WhatCulture Wrestling Towers.
11:31There are good news on the...
11:33Yes, boy!
11:34Yes, boy!
11:35On the continued existence of a cult favourite tag team, and that is Kit Wilson has been going solo on SmackDown.
11:43There was a reference, I believe, made by Corey Graves about the Yes, boy, was old stuff.
11:48Yeah.
11:48So I got a little bit frightened.
11:49Me too.
11:51With the idea that potentially pretty deadly might not be long for this world now that Elton Prince is injured and all the rest of it.
11:58And as well, if you follow the theme and follow patterns and trends, if they're shortening people's names elsewhere on the show,
12:05another old WWE habit would be, all right, okay, well, the tag team partner's injured, half-pushed the other one, and then forget they exist and all the rest of it.
12:14But no, according to who else but Sean Ross Sapp, he has come through with a report that pretty deadly are, you know, likely to come back together when...
12:24Which one is it?
12:25Elton.
12:26Elton Prince.
12:26Sorry, I went up with Dwayne there.
12:27The only time ever anyone could ever compare me to Dwayne Johnson is the fact that I often need help remembering my promo notes, okay?
12:38I lose my head as much as Dwayne Johnson does these days with my football team's absolutely horrendous exploits.
12:45So I've got a bit of a fragile inability to lose.
12:48Elsewhere, he's an alpha male.
12:50I'm not.
12:51But no, this is great news.
12:52This is really a big relief, especially because of Kit Wilson's interesting new gimmick on SmackDown right now.
12:58Bloody toxic masculinity, that's the problem.
13:00What?
13:01Yeah, he just had a match with Mellow, an enjoyable match with The Miz.
13:05It went three minutes, mate.
13:07I mean, don't pump it up more than it.
13:09I'll say we'll pump it up, though.
13:11Nathan Fraser versus Ilya Dragunov from Friday.
13:13I haven't caught up with it yet, but I will watch it.
13:15That was the tits.
13:17I'm assuming move for move, it happens on Dynamite and you'll be left bored by it.
13:20Yeah.
13:20But under the blue lights, hey, what's this?
13:25Absolutely pathetic.
13:26Anyway, what are we talking about?
13:28Oh, yeah, Elton Prince.
13:29Yeah, get well soon to Elton Prince and absolutely a relief that they are not splitting up this tag team
13:32because I thought in a busy tag team division like they have on SmackDown,
13:37I think they really carved out a nice niche for themselves.
13:39Me and Hanfla have pitched in the interim because of the weird sort of way it's factored in
13:44that Kit accused Melo of toxic masculinity and then they had the match and Miz gets involved
13:50and what have you.
13:52Kit Wilson and The Miz, pretty awesome as a temporary tag team.
13:56I mean, I don't hate that.
14:00But yeah, eventually I would have Kit Wilson and Elton Prince reunited because they're awesome
14:06and WWE already spent the money on the giant disco balls, so you might as well make use of it.
14:10Might as well make use of it.
14:11And let's give them a bit of a push.
14:12Yes.
14:13Give them something of substance to do.
14:15They were genuinely incredibly charming down in their NXT days when they were allowed to develop the characters,
14:21explore how ridiculous it all was, the entire act.
14:25But more.
14:27Road Dogg, I don't ask you for much.
14:29In fact, I don't ask you for anything.
14:32I don't expect anything.
14:35I expect less than nothing from you.
14:37But come on.
14:37Yeah.
14:38Isn't Road Dogg's whole thing, and I think he used to do this about on his podcast,
14:41like, am I a better sports entertainer than, the whole idea would be, right, let's get
14:47Big Dog, Road Dogg in the news cycle.
14:50Am I a better sports entertainer than Bret Hart?
14:53And then he would go, oh, you know, maybe I was.
14:56It's like, well, you know.
14:59He used to have a catchphrase and used to have people shout it back at you.
15:02If that's what counts, that's what sports entertainment is.
15:06All the rest of it.
15:07But this guy prides himself on the whole, our wins and losses don't matter.
15:10Kevin Owens is a winner.
15:12And, you know, sports entertainment, this, pro wrestling, suck my gack, that, all the
15:16rest of it.
15:17If this guy is Mr. Sports Entertainment, and he's so entertaining, and God, I've got
15:23wrestling, it's all about entertainment.
15:26You've got a legitimately entertaining tag team on SmackDown, and the individual members
15:33are very entertaining as well.
15:34Here's what you've done with them.
15:36Nothing I would describe as even remotely entertaining.
15:39So put your money where your mouth is, because I hear that your booking is smooth AF.
15:45I haven't had that much evidence of it so far.
15:49Well, let us know your thoughts, if you're a road dog, or if not, in the comments section
15:52below.
15:52Don't forget to like, share, subscribe.
15:54While you're right, I want to check out this video right here.
15:55It says you have no idea what it is, but I'm sure it's bloody great.
15:58I hope it's not a blanket, empty space.
15:59I'll see the screen.
16:00Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:02Bye.
16:03Bye.
16:03Bye.
16:05Bye.
16:05Bye.
16:05Bye.
16:05Bye.
