00:01:01Chef Carla Hall, and an acclaimed chef who has worked

00:03:46it's that success is rarely achieved alone.
00:03:49It requires teamwork, cooperation,
00:03:52and normally, Hermione telling everyone what to do.

00:03:56So, for this competition,
00:03:58you've been placed into pairs
00:04:00based on your complementary skills.
00:04:02So, you ready to get started?

00:04:05Good, because it's time for your first challenge.
00:04:07Each team will be assigned a Hogwarts house
00:04:11to use as the inspiration for your first showpiece.
00:04:15Now, there are eight teams, but only four houses.
00:04:20That means that you'll be facing off
00:04:23in four head-to-head duels.

00:04:29will live to bake another day.
00:04:31The losing team could be heading home
00:04:34before the fat lady sings.

00:12:36for her chocolate artistry.

00:12:48She sculpts lifelike cakes that never fail to impress.
00:12:53Molly and Priya are hungry to rewrite the rulebook
00:12:57for all wizards of baking.

00:13:07We also are, like, incredibly strong, independent women,

00:13:20made of ice malt.
00:13:21I've already set all of my bars to create the shapes
00:13:25for the front, back, sides, and top of the greenhouse.

00:18:26and I won three I'm so glad you're my teammate because I've never competed on a TV show before

00:18:36don't do TV that's not for me when they were like it's Harry Potter and I was like today I'll go there

00:19:00so we know what I'm thinking so we have to integrate water oh the scene you know when
00:19:04the water is spinning in the ministry of magic yes yeah so we can do like a cascading like gravity
00:19:25defying isomal this is going to be really really challenging because the weight let's get started
00:19:31what is something that is so Slytherin it's unmistakable so yeah we have to use water and I
00:19:40think water I think of the Chamber of Secrets maybe we'll do like a multi-level floor view like yeah you
00:19:47start at the top in the hallway of Hogwarts where it's like the wall that has the warning of like
00:19:52the air beware right and then maybe like as you go downward there's the snake door that you have to
00:19:59speak and parcel tongue to open and then below that it could be like the Chamber of Secrets it's
00:20:04like yeah the big cavernous crypt perfect yes our show piece consists of three tiers the middle tier
00:20:10will have stalagmites and stalactite added on either side of the door the entrance walkway will be
00:20:16surrounded by water and lead up to a cavern with a huge carving of Salazar Slytherin's face emerging
00:20:22from the entrance of the wall is a large basilisk on the walkway lies the diary of Tom Riddle
00:20:27rip it off like a band-aid wow Marge this has been crazy so far right like I feel like we just met
00:20:33each other yeah I know we actually did just meet each other now we have to force ourselves to work
00:20:38together with our different styles I am obsessed with pro wrestling that is my thing going to Comic-Con
00:20:45and I love cosplay I'm not really girly I would say I've always been a tomboy people look at me and
00:20:51they always tell me they're so intimidated by me when I first saw you I thought maybe she'll hate me I
00:20:57don't know but honestly you're the sweetest person I think we're pretty polar opposites when I'm not
00:21:04baking I love spending time with my two cats at home I love gardening everything to do with flowers
00:21:10Sarah's like a princess like a all right yeah this is lining up so good the top tier of our show
00:21:19piece is made out of dark chocolate that I cast into a silicone mold I'm just giving it a little
00:21:26hair dry that looks so cool I'm doing a lot of cocoa butter spraying to give some dimension I then go
00:21:33back with a really fine brush and red cocoa butter to hand paint the ominous message oh we're good we're
00:21:39good mm-hmm I am a chocolatier I don't usually work with rice cereal but this is fun learning new
00:21:46mediums this is where the tasting cake is gonna go so build this guy up to here and then leave the
00:21:50sponsor cake okay perfect okay I want about yay high for the cake very technical yay high yay high I am
00:21:59now a cake artist it is looking a little bit messy right now but we will save time to clean it up but
00:22:06it's looking good yep best for last well with only two teams left and one house to go any guesses

00:22:20Ravenclaw's are known for their wit their wisdom and their learning and the house element is air so

00:23:29that we need to do something yeah really theatrical it's actually my motto for life is to make it magical and I
00:23:35try to make it magical every day and that's whether it's with my desserts whether it's DJing whether it
00:23:41is having a gospel night with my amazing wife who's a powerful singer what about the wings that's
00:23:47ambitious yeah I am a cake artist I definitely have to convince my parents to let me go to
00:23:53culinary school and they were like yeah I mean as long as you know um you pay and then you can go
00:23:58so you know I'm in debt but we're not taking a risk but a little bit more than we need to but yeah
00:24:05not I think that if that's right honestly let's go for it so we have to do air so something was like
00:24:11um what if we did a bird actually flying love that okay from Maryland mom of two Caitlin is bringing her
00:24:21enthusiasm and passion for bold cake designs with her into the kitchen New Jersey mom of two Jaleesa
00:24:29enters the competition equally determined to take home the trophy both of these strong-minded Bakers have
00:24:38their eyes focused on the prize you know we're both very competitive I'm very good at what I do I've won
00:24:46two competitions before I competed on spring bacon championship won that we're not going into this
00:24:52very cocky and big head like oh yeah I'm really good at what it's like yes I we're good at what we
00:24:55do but we can back it up yeah you know how when they cast a spell the gust that kind of shows on the
00:25:01outside of the line I want to somehow try to incorporate like some moves should we do like

00:25:44no idea how competitive I was until I started competing I just thought like oh it's a friendly
00:25:48competition I'm gonna like try my best and like yeah and then it was like no I'm elbowing people and
00:25:52I'm a track star and I will run to grab what I want and I will take the last one and not care
00:25:56because I want to win the whole point of a competition is to win
00:26:06oh wow isn't the Food Network amazing so remember teams you all began 30 minutes apart so some of you
00:26:18will finish before others oh Gryffindor teams you started first so you'll be the first to step up
00:26:25and present to the judges okay yeah Hufflepuff teams you will present yours 30 minutes later Slytherin will
00:26:32be next and then finally Ravenclaw so for my bit when I make baby Norbert I've got this really cool
00:26:48technique I'm thinking I'm gonna make his wings but I'm gonna make them out of edible skin what I'm
00:26:54gonna be doing is painting an underlayer of these wafer paper sheets so I'm just giving this a base coat
00:27:00of gelatin and then when this gelatin dries it's gonna look like skin so what I will do is sandwich
00:27:06his fingers inside two layers of paper and then what that's gonna do is give the wing structure so
00:27:13it'll look like the bone underneath the skin and I'll be airbrushing it and dusting it and making
00:27:17it look even more realistic it feels good to be cooking for the tasting element we'll be making a
00:27:25buttermilk cake with a rhubarb and blood orange compote filling and it will be right behind the
00:27:30eyes in the lion's forehead so I have our blood orange puree I'm gonna combine that with a little
00:27:35sugar our rhubarb cook that down in a compote I'm going a little bit savory with my rhubarb so there could
00:27:41be a little bit of an error in balance between that salty and that sweet you know I get in my head and I get
00:27:48really you know I nervous and I'm like what am I doing it's intimidating I mean the whole thing
00:27:52is terrifying I live in Nashville Tennessee and I'm the executive pastry chef at a hotel
00:27:57I'm a little bit whimsical I like to have fun I'm a little bit cheeky so I think that that translates
00:28:06into my desserts I'm from Michigan Detroit Lions love I have owned my own bakery for 12 years and we've
00:28:16always did these really big window displays it took me a long time to find my own stride and in my 40s
00:28:22now it's time look out world I am going to probably work on the lion now all right let's get it going now
00:28:35I'm starting to shape the main so we can give it a lot of power and strength like Gryffindor house
00:28:41deserves I think it looks really good you're really fast at this I'm so happy with it bigger
00:28:48is better and more is more absolutely we're back for chapter 2 back in our lovely kitchen 16 bakers at
00:28:57once in the kitchen all working really really hard how exciting is that I know over the course of this
00:29:03season we're gonna see challenges which are tougher than before we're gonna push these bakers as far as they
00:29:08can possibly go I can't wait to see what the judges think so no what I've noticed there's a tribute to a
00:29:16lot of different characters in here including Goblet of Fire's very own Cedric Diggory yes where's our
00:29:22tribute yeah have we just got to stand in a plinth we didn't get a shirt you do this you're good like
00:29:30that I'll take over shy okay Linda Lisa it's definitely like hyperspeed that we're working in
00:29:40but so what are you doing right now then Caitlin so the bottom of our showpiece is a desk so I am
00:29:46marbling fondant basically three different colors and what that does is like it makes wood grain
00:29:51striations so then when I put it through the sheeter it looks like this yeah that's this wow which one of
00:29:58you girls is the biggest Potter fan here that's definitely Caitlin I almost burst into tears when
00:30:04I walked into the Great Hall I've been a fan since I was like 11 so it feels like I kind of grew up
00:30:08with all of you guys really I can like quote the movie and like do the voices and everything the
00:30:14voices go on do a voice where have you been that was really good where have you been guys we'll leave you to it
00:30:25thank you I'm making the yuzu sponge so we wanted it to be the Hufflepuff color the yellow and black so
00:30:36we've got the yellow of the sponge and then I'm making a black sesame buttercream and that's going
00:30:41to add like a really nutty like earthy kind of flavor see it's got multiple ends and it's really
00:30:46giving me that sugar threadiness I'll be doing a sesame nougatine as well and that's going to add a
00:30:52little bit of crunch texture and color to our cake this build is bigger and has more components
00:30:59than anything I've ever done before it really needs to be a team effort I've just got to be positive I
00:31:06have some session buttons session buttons are a kind of type of spice it will be part of the rosemary
00:31:16and session button twisting garment so I'm freezing with liquid nitrogen so session buttons they have
00:31:22this activated molecule which is called hydroxyl alpha central and sure it works my expertise is molecular
00:31:32astronomy I really have to use the goggles I'm a chef food designer and professor at two universities and three
00:31:37different schools in Portugal Lisbon I really trying to make my name as a mark and as a stamp for Portuguese
00:31:43astronomy beautiful that's it oh I got the best partner so the Sichuan it's something really nice
00:31:53because it gives you dynamic effect it's gonna feel like you're having electrical impulses oh my gosh in
00:32:00our tongue are you sure sure trust me oh my gosh I can't see my tongue now be careful try one each they
00:32:14should probably find something before so we've got something which makes your tongue go to sleep you're
00:32:21gonna feel like whiskey you're gonna feel like electric sensation on your tongue okay so I'm feeling
00:32:27like if you were to get a car battery and lick it that's probably the best luck to describe it I
00:32:31have never had anything like this before it's magic in my life look at our molecules everything yeah
00:32:37we're like starting the tasting element stuff my instant thought is make matcha cake right it's green
00:32:51obviously represents Slytherin so I'm doing the lime curd right now and I'm also gonna scale
00:32:57out the white chocolate whipped ganache I'm not the biggest fan of matcha do you like matcha I love
00:33:01matcha that's why it was my first thought I mean we could have done pistachio cake but right matcha
00:33:07is a flavor that can go very bitter very quickly and we don't want it to be too earthy we just want
00:33:13to show a little bit of that bitterness to then get balanced with the lime right now oh my god now I'm
00:33:19throwing myself off oh god what hey and now I'm like did I put six so basically I am building the
00:33:32cake right here so for our Slytherin tasting element we are creating the heart of dark magic it's gonna be
00:33:38a cardamom cake and then I'm gonna add a cardamom Swiss meringue buttercream a orange curd to add some
00:33:45tartness some roasted salted pistachios and it's gonna be topped off with some candied orange peel
00:33:52cardamom is a really popular flavor in my Indian culture it's known for being really herbaceous you
00:34:00know it has some human powers and it's kind of magical in this mysterious I really want to win
00:34:05because I want to show the younger me that you know you did it growing up when I used to watch all
00:34:10these cooking and baking shows I never saw someone like me so I really want to inspire everyone who's
00:34:16watching who looks like me maybe to follow their dream say ah oh my gosh that's so good
00:34:23snack time everybody get snacks

00:35:17yeah nice so because I'm the pastry expert of the team I am doing a stunning layered entremé and what's
00:35:24that going to be is multiple layers of textures and flavors starting with a crunchy base with protein
00:35:29milk chocolate then we've got a milk chocolate custard an incredible caramel sponge we then have
00:35:33the most amazing chewy caramel some crunchy pearls of chocolate and finally a whipped ganache which is
00:35:39what I'm making now and that's going to be a pillow for the diadem to sit on top I've got my
00:35:44whipped ganache I'm going to pipe that in we're then going to paint in all the detail to make sure
00:35:48the mold catches all of that detail and then I've got my amazing layers to go inside the cake we've
00:35:53selected a mold which is shaped just like this amazing pillow and it's just the perfect platform to
00:35:58present the diadem I grew up with cooking and food in my family my grandmother was a celebrated chef
00:36:04and cookery author so going into pastry was natural for me it's exciting to be here representing sort of
00:36:11the family culinary spirit oh yeah we're gonna make the Potterheads proud buttoned-up executive pastry chef
00:36:19Stefan looks after all the desserts at an exquisite English Yorkshire five-star hotel his joyful upbeat
00:36:26persona is reflected in everything he makes arriving from New York Andy is a creative whirlwind of
00:36:36imagination he balances all his skills to deliver captivating creations will magic happen when their
00:36:44worlds collide I think that you know two different sides of the world yeah come together and make some
00:36:51cool stuff you know New Yorkshire our biggest risk from a construction standpoint is gravity it's not
00:37:02takes friend before my very eyes pieces of the lion's head are falling off I'm gonna just have to be a lot more
00:37:12careful it's a big problem I mean it's the focal point it's got to be perfection Gryffindor teams three
00:37:19hours gone you are halfway through your bank wait what oh my god I'm hoping with the amount of time we
00:37:29have left that it's a it's saveable so we're gonna get to it and see what can happen I use much more
00:37:35chocolate than it was expected but the chocolate is doing its job and it's holding the rice cereal in
00:37:40its place we haven't given up yet we got time to rally we're trying to blend that tall skinny tasting
00:37:48piece that we have into the face so almost like a little frame and we're just wanting to make sure
00:37:54that this all stays in its place I'll definitely be trimming some of this away but we just need to
00:38:00fill in those little gaps for now we don't want our lion having a double chin we're covering the
00:38:07face and fondant so it can be nice and rigid and and solid so happy with it I couldn't be happier the
00:38:13moment oh she pretty I just need one more egg for our tasting element we really wanted the flavor to
00:38:22encompass Ravenclaw what do you do when you study you have a nice hot cup of tea but also we kind of
00:38:28wanted that to reflect professor Trelawney because she does the tea leaves readings so we are going
00:38:33for a London fog inspired cake it'll be a Earl Grey cake with a Earl Grey milk soak that has a
00:38:38blueberry lavender jam with a vanilla and honey Swiss pouring buttercream dressed up as books so I'm all
00:38:43about natural flavors this is right up my alley for making a London fog cake so instead of using some
00:38:49weird like extract I'm just gonna put Earl Grey tea leaves and make the natural flavor in my cake
00:38:52this smells so good so once the cakes are out of the oven I apply the milk soak while it's still
00:38:58warm so this kind of helps reintroduce the Earl Grey flavor and also a little bit of sweetness so the
00:39:03hole in the center is to fit through my armature in the bottom where the books are gonna sit so it's
00:39:08gonna make a little hole for it so you can sit perfectly inside do you want to try the cake give me
00:39:16that I definitely feel confident in us going far in this competition and winning oh we're winning
00:39:23oh my butterbeer we love Stefan and Andy but they gotta go Jenny Alex hey what does it feel like to
00:39:36be in this kitchen in this competition right now my mind is blown I'm very warm yeah but it's a bonkers

00:39:53the ride okay you're gonna be shattered well yes we have something in the UK called cake
00:40:02international and I may have won that in 2022 and then I was voted as the number one cake artist in
00:40:09the UK in 2023 so you're pretty good that's what I'm guessing I'm British we don't brag is this the
00:40:16first type of bake that you've got a baker dragon or anything like that for me it is yeah so I'm a
00:40:21bit nervous to be honest yeah so what are you doing to push yourselves I just think we've got a winning
00:40:26concept I think we've got a cracking idea we've got some stupid sort of techniques that we're using you
00:40:31know for goodness sake edible skin we're making also a really super shiny Norbert's chocolate egg
00:40:37also some sugar rocks and you will see we have we have quite things going on here I mean his
00:40:44tasting element down the bottom with the egg is just bananas it's not really bananas but you know
00:40:49what I mean so what are you doing now so we're smoking the whipped cream this is a smoke gun I'm using
00:40:55walnut chips walnut chips all right yeah yeah oh it is smoking it is a smokey yeah there you go so it
00:41:01is coming inside it sounds very unique bye boys see you later we're planning on making and a small
00:41:10hazelnut nuts with a passion fruit cremeux I'm just putting the passion fruit cremeux on top of the
00:41:16hazelnut cake and I'm gonna cover it with a narrow glaze oh so the glaze is looking great it's perfect
00:41:23it's really shiny we are creating little baby mandrakes I will trim all the layers for building
00:41:33up the intimate and I will start assembling together with the mousse and then I'm going to dip in
00:41:37chocolate I'm making the belly of the baby mandrakes they're chubby they are although I do feel like
00:41:44they're always kind of angry big nose it's gonna be so whimsical I'm now I become a makeup artist

00:42:16imagine there being that many I think it was a plumbing company that were called badger I've had
00:42:23my bakery for three years and it's very pink it's very fun it's like if a unicorn went into a bakery

00:42:53have a base so I'm gonna make the body and attach it to the head and build off of that now I'm an

00:43:12assistant pastry chef I specialize in doing a lot of chocolate and sugar work my wheelhouse is artistry
00:43:21honestly I'm a cake artist but I've always drawn and sculpted our love for pastry and artistry in
00:43:29general really connects us I feel like all of us here are artists and our art is edible I like that
00:43:37with Voldemort's cloak to make it dramatic and we want really impressive judges you know I want this to
00:43:43look really organic and I want the entire cloak all moving in one direction and Voldemort's cloak will
00:43:48be airbrushed in an emerald green color I gotta add some shine I gotta add some highlights that's
00:43:56really gonna bring this piece to life stunning it's perfect Caitlin look that's cool dude I look so good
00:44:06hi Caitlin how are you love you I am painting some blue wafer paper black with glycerin and gel color
00:44:16it's gonna soften it and I'll be able to cut all of my feathers for the raven out I'm gonna do individual
00:44:22feathers I honestly didn't think this would take this long I'm a little behind I did not want to
00:44:28be still doing this at this point but here we are the most important part of our showpiece is our
00:44:33mascot and because Caitlin has such strength in hyper realism she's definitely gonna take lead on that
00:44:39these are sticking together huh these are sticking together my feathers completely didn't work I don't
00:44:47know if I added too much glycerin or the water completely dissolved it but they're so flimsy it
00:44:53falls apart and the other ones are sticking to the tray so okay this is definitely not how I thought
00:44:59today it was gonna be untumbled real quick I wasted an hour for no reason and now I don't know what to
00:45:06do it really sucks these are sticking together huh these are sticking together my feathers completely
00:45:16didn't work okay full pivot I'm just gonna have to do white and airbrush it yeah I mean it's not
00:45:21gonna be black black but it'll be black enough yeah so I have to fix my feathers I'm just gonna cut
00:45:26all the feathers and individually airbrush them airbrushing's working okay no it looks good this
00:45:32is the last thing I wanted to do before I was cool as a cucumber but now I am having full crash out
00:45:39moment I am feeling behind but as soon as I can get these feathers on this last wing I can start moving
00:45:45rather quickly you know famous last words Julie so we cannot go home you know we're not going home
00:45:50so now I'm starting to build the body of my raven so I just want to get the body set and covered in
00:45:57ganache so that I can start sculpting it I do want to spend a lot of time on making sure this raven looks
00:46:05a hundred percent I'm using modeling chocolate just to model the beak the eyes and get all that feather work
00:46:12in and the face area I think I'm on the right track to create these feathers I'm taking tempered chocolate we have hundreds of
00:46:20feathers to make and then to stick onto the wings and we're kind of getting to a stage where a little bit worried we can
00:46:26actually do it and I need to start working on Hagrid this is black modeling paste this is where I'm gonna be attaching all the sparkly
00:46:33lights when Norbert fires his burp at his beard I'm gonna do his face up the top but just his nose and his
00:46:41goggles a really big bushy beard it's actually edible corn silk I'm quite happy actually oh that's perfect
00:46:48so I'm gonna add some more detail I love it our showpiece was really a celebration of earth and
00:46:56growth and so we'll have mushrooms and snails and slugs we love those guys cute so cute I'm making
00:47:06the snails made from textured fondant and modeling paste I'm really obsessed with color and making
00:47:11sure things visually look balanced oh great raven floor teams you still have two hours to go
00:47:20slithering teams that's 90 minutes left in the slithering jewel I have to pour this boiling hot
00:47:31isomalt onto the spiral here we go water is our magical element so this is a cascading swirl going
00:47:39upwards looking like water and I'll use a couple mediums of isomalt some cold some ribboning and then
00:47:44some spun sugar it's a little dangerous truthfully we haven't tested it we don't know I've never poured
00:47:49in spiral isomalt it's kind of insane yeah because this whole showpiece can just all fall apart
00:47:55looks good like it looks like water okay Stefan Andy how are you guys finding working together so
00:48:02far it's been awesome working with Andy and we're having fun how much of a Potter fan are you then
00:48:07well yeah I love the Harry Potter movies but I've got an interesting connection we actually shared a
00:48:12scene together in the first movie yeah I was stood in the background yeah and they recruited the extras
00:48:17from the locals from the area our job is to make sure that you don't get flooded up too bad can't
00:48:23make any promises of course yeah that seems actually the first thing that we had dialogue oh seriously
00:48:27what scene were you in in Harry Potter um but at least you can say you filmed in the great hall now
00:48:36right exactly I don't like that I am freaking out because I've lost all this time with the feathers and
00:48:48now I am completely hand sculpting the body of this raven I grabbed my black modeling chocolate I just
00:48:54kind of like lump it on I don't care I don't care and I'm basically just going triple time slashing
00:49:01at the body and the head and making these little striations to make it look like it's got its fur and
00:49:06its feathers I took my aggravation out on it Chalisa I feel like I'm gonna puke don't puke

00:55:43so our tasting element involves a rhubarb and blood orange compote paired with a honey crema thank
00:55:55you thank you some white chocolate milk crumb just for a little bit of crunch and a buttermilk cake oh
00:56:01oh my knee caps are quivering I think the rhubarb and blood orange is a very nice acidity I think maybe
00:56:13another layer of the blood orange yes you have white chocolate you have honey you have all of those sort of
00:56:20creamy sweet notes and then that would just balance it out I like this cake thank you look it's good but
00:56:28good is the enemy of great as they say thank you very much thank you thank you appreciate it

00:57:54detail detail details honey to finish his face the airbrushing takes it to another level sometimes if
00:58:00you add a little bit of black shading or dark brown and it gives it another another element of realism

00:58:15the pots I do one full and then one lay down you don't want it all mixed right just a little bit

00:58:42bellies all the elements are there we feel great we're done and that's a huge relief I hope they
00:58:50see how much work and technique and skill has gone into it looks like straight-up taxidermy now it
00:59:06looks nice and wet like this leaves it's slime anywhere else that wouldn't be a great compliment
00:59:12but you're loving the slugs aren't you I'm I'm loving the greenhouse I think the story incredible you
00:59:19didn't need to say a word we got it yeah you look at this and you know what house this is
00:59:24represented yes I think execution everything is executed beautifully the texture I mean it feels
00:59:31like the eyes look at that no but the devil is in the detail that's incredible really and you've
00:59:38certainly delivered on the house element of earth you really have and then we've got some growth coming
00:59:45from the earth as well so what is the tasting element so for our tasting element today we're
00:59:59doing a black sesame and yuzu we've done the sponge yellow and then we've got a sesame nougatine
01:00:10in there a yuzu curd the acidity of the yuzu is perfect black sesame overpowers a little the sesame
01:00:22nougatine is really nice I don't know if the balance was there okay all right thank you so much thank you
