In Sydney Pollack's THREE DAYS OF THE CONDOR, the award-winning actor plays a CIA researcher, Joseph Turner, who is plunged into a harrowing series of events when he discovers clandestine activities within the agency. Two men arrive at his office one day and gun down all the employees, except for Turner who escapes. Working under the name Condor, he tracks down the conspirators, and finds a way to outwit them.

Redford's performance contributed to the film's post-Watergate realism, making the conspiracy feel frighteningly possible. Roger Ebert cited Redford as a "good target... all open-faced and trusting", and the film "a well-made thriller, tense and involving, and the scary thing, in these months after Watergate, is that it's all too believable."
