This is the story of a brilliant young surgeon, who finds in a Victorian circus side-show a man so hideously deformed that he is condemned to a life of degradation as a freak. He is John Merrick, known to circus audiences throughout the country as 'The Elephant Man'. Although Merrick cannot be cured, Treves battles to rescue him from the squalor of his surroundings and give him a life of dignity and comfort.
