00:00And now let's have a quick look at a game between two great champions, Mikhail Batvinnik and Tigran Petrosyan.
00:15As you can see, white has a material advantage, it's an extra exchange, black has some compensation.
00:21And Batvinnik, who was pressing in his game, misplayed at one point and eventually made a blunder.
00:31Happens even in the game for great players.
00:34And here Petrosyan delivered the final blow by using a few themes, but one quiet move, bishop e4.
00:48And white has resigned.
00:51Because this bishop is overloaded.
00:54It's a deadly pin, an absolute pin, because the king is here.
00:58And rook cannot be protected.
01:00So white has to take on e4, and then rook takes on e2, and white position collapses.
01:06And if you take on d2, then after ed2, it's an amazing situation, where white rook is dominated,
01:13because it cannot stop this pawn from promoting.
01:16And the bishop, which technically controls the square, it's pinned.
01:21So that's why bishop will be eliminated, and the promotion is inevitable.
01:25So simple, but very effective.
01:28Bishop e4, and white is lost.
01:32And now it's time for test, for challenge.
01:43This time, it comes from my own game.
01:47The game I played against Vasily Ivanchuk, another Linares tournament.
01:50Not my best Linares, actually Karpov's best Linares, 1994.
01:56But I played a few nice games, and this is one of them.
01:58Look at that.
02:00Look at that.
