00:38Sunday, I always call it, I always tell it, Sunday is a day of learning, introspect, insights, and everything.
00:46So, this morning, being Sunday, I got hold of a young Filipina.
00:52Okay, young Filipina who is really, who is living in the United States in Colorado, Utah, Utah, Salt Lake, na medyo na nalito na ako.
01:06But again, I'd like to introduce to you, Jai Bollock.
01:12Jai, good Sunday to you.
01:14Kamusta na ba dyan sa atin sa Utah?
01:17Hello, Tito Butch. Happy Sunday. Magandang umaga, magandang gabi, magandang hapon sa lahat ko.
01:25Yes. So, Jai, kamusta na ba ang buhay-buhay ng isang Filipina na nag-migrate sa Amerika?
01:32Kasi, alam mo, Jai, marami talaga ang naghahangad na sana all, you know, sana all makapunta naman sa Amerika.
01:42Ikaw ay nakarating na.
01:45Pero bago ka nakarating, ay marami kang pinagdaanan, like yung karir mo sa Pilipinas, di ba?
01:51Ano ba talaga ang iyong journey na ginawa?
01:55Okay. That's very interesting, Tito.
01:59So, lahat naman tayo, I think, lalo na as Filipinos, at least I grew up knowing, hearing about the American dream.
02:07Pero sa totoo lang, Tito Butch, moving to the US, hindi ko siya ever pinamarap.
02:12It was the last time of time.
02:14Kasi the trajectory of my career was very clear sa akin.
02:19So, yung karira ko was built in the Philippines sa Manila po.
02:24I started a career in the political space.
02:28I first started teaching at the De La Salle University.
02:31So, yan ni mo?
02:32Yan ni mo.
02:34And then, before that, I was very privileged to have the opportunity to be a part of the Philippine Senate
02:39and the Department of Energy before moving to the US, where I headed the media affairs,
02:46public and media affairs department.
02:48Pero, it was very interesting because yung asawa ko, I ended up marrying an American
02:55and his career entailed that we move around.
03:00So, I knew it.
03:02Na swertehan lang po na nung pinauwi ako to serve during the previous administration,
03:08he also had employment in the Philippines.
03:10So, we were able to live in the Philippines before moving to the US.
03:13But, when his career, he was offered a good position to the US,
03:20then it was time that I had to come to terms.
03:23Like I said, being a, being, going to the, going to the US or being a citizen was the last thing on my mind back then.
03:30But then, it became difficult.
03:31So, it was very interesting dito dahil nung lumipat kami dito sa Amerika,
03:37nakita ko yung mga ibang journey ng mga ibang kabayan natin dito.
03:42For example, meron sa kanila, dito na sila pinanganak,
03:46and then they're talking about their identity and wanting to reach back to their roots,
03:53yung connection nila sa pagiging Pilipino.
03:55That's one struggle that I've, one journey that I've, I've listened on others would be about,
04:00talagang yung mga inasaw na pumunta sa Amerika.
04:04Correct.
04:06Umangat ang buhay, para makatulong sa mga kamag-anak sa Pilipinas.
04:12And lahat yun admirable, kanya-kanya siyang experience.
04:15But, in my case dito, if you're gonna ask me,
04:17it was, it was a bit interesting because pumunta ako dito buo,
04:21Pilipino ako, with a career from back home.
04:26And I wanted to observe and see because yung Pinoy pride dala natin as Filipinos wherever we are.
04:35So, wala akong identity crisis, fortunately, of that.
04:39But I had to observe and be able to at least translate what I was doing back home.
04:51Being in the political space, it's a lot of service.
04:53So, I wanted to find out to be able to do that dito sa U.S.
04:57So, that led me to founding our own communications company here in Utah.
05:05So, I have a business partner, Americana Pucha.
05:10She's the Assistant Dean of Westminster University here in Utah.
05:14And it's nice because we are able to show Utah and the rest of the U.S.
05:21the consistently, the unique brand of Filipino excellence, yung kagalingan ng Pinoy.
05:27Correct, correct.
05:29But, tell me, Jaib, ikaw ay nag-involve din sa Filipino community.
05:38Yung, you have the time.
05:43I mean, ito yung nakikita ko sa mga Filipinos abroad.
05:47Yung bang managing their time.
05:51Parang, how do you ever manage your time?
05:55I mean, alam mo, you're in the U.S.
05:57You do everything.
05:59You do mega-cleaning, mega-tasking.
06:01How do you manage your time?
06:04Siguro, mga tao doon, ako, ang hirap ng buhay sa Amerika kasi lahat gagawin mo.
06:09Pero ikaw, how have you adjusted to the life?
06:14Diskarte po talaga siya.
06:15I think magaling tayo as...
06:17Diskarte, oo.
06:18Diskarte.
06:19So, ano man, yun eh.
06:21Minsan kasi iniisip, diba, the preconception is pag Pinoy ka sa Amerika,
06:25bongga ka na, masarap ang buhay mo.
06:27When in reality, mahirap siya.
06:29Kasi, all in one, ikaw ang gagawa.
06:34So, really, ang adjustment, doon, was to be able to identify the priority
06:39na kailangan balance siya.
06:41Balance yung trabaho, balance yung negosyo, balance yung pamilya.
06:46Correct.
06:47At meron siyang time tito, hindi siya instant.
06:50So, hanggang mahanap mo yung groove mo, and then it will work out.
06:54Pero kailangan talaga clear yung priorities at mabalance mo siya.
07:00Disiplina, mindset siya dito.
07:02Mindset.
07:02Pero nung umpisa, Jive, nung umpisa, let's say, like, going back,
07:07kakarating mo lang, at nag-settle na kayo dyan sa Utah,
07:12how long did it take you to adjust?
07:14In other words, para ma-fine-tune mo yung buhay mo?
07:17Kasi, Pilipinas, all of a sudden, nag-move ka dyan sa Amerika.
07:21Paano mo?
07:22Ano ang mga tips na pwede mong ibahagi doon sa mga ating mga nanonood?
07:28I think ang pinaka-importante dito yung support network.
07:32Ang angagandahan ngayon is technology is available.
07:36So, siguro, compared to 10 or 15 years ago,
07:39naswertehan po ako na mahirap yung immediate environment, adjustment.
07:44Kasi, wala kang kakilala.
07:46Tapos, as Pinoy, naghahanap tayo ng kapwa Pinoy kung meron ba to fit in.
07:54Kasi, wala kayong nagagawa ng support network back home ng pamilya.
08:00In my personal experience dito,
08:02swertahan ako, sobrang supportive ng asawa ko.
08:05So, naiintindihan niya na iba.
08:08Although this isn't our first time na palipat-lipat,
08:11pero iba kasi yung parang nashock pa bigla eh.
08:14Kasi, alam ko na, sabi ko sa kanya,
08:16pag tumuntung tayo ng Amerika, lalo na hindi na tayo bata,
08:19kailangan ang mindset natin long-term na to na home.
08:24Hindi pwede yung palipat-lipat.
08:25So, alam ko na yun na na-start from scratch.
08:28Yung asawa ko, pamilya ko.
08:30So, actually, dito ang kinaganda.
08:32Mas naging close pa kami ng mommy ko.
08:34No, no, no, no.
08:36Sa tawag.
08:38Dahil sa importante yung established mong connections.
08:42Yung mga kaibigan back home.
08:44Hindi ko yung pinutol.
08:46Sila ang nagbigay sa akin ng further kumpiyansa na

08:56Parang sinasabi nga, yung parating natin by ating hashtag eh,

09:03So, but dumako naman tayo.
09:05Pumunta tayo sa involvement mo sa Filipino community.
09:09Ano ang, paano ka ba nag-join sa Filipino?
09:12Kasi you're part of the coalition of Filipino, overseas Filipino, Asian American, right?
09:20COFAC.
09:21Paano ka ba na-involved ngayon sa ating community?
09:26Dito, nung nagsimula akong mag-negosyo, yung automatic kong instinct was umalyado sa local chamber.
09:34At suwente na Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry dito sa Utah.
09:39And I'm mindful of where I put my energy and time.
09:42And nung kinausap ko yung mga namumuno, nakita ko yung liderato.
09:47Natiwa-tiwala.
09:48Ang standards is magbigay at tumulong sa mga businesses, sa Filipino businesses dito sa komunidad.
09:56So, I like what it was, and I decided to give my time and my expertise.
10:01Because yung business namin were involved in helping businesses and organizations effectively communicate.
10:08And the thing is dito, as you know, you've been working, you've been in the business industry, you've been a business person for decades.
10:15Ito ang access ng malalaking kumpanya when it comes to expertise and knowledge.
10:21Kaya, on the hand, may pera sila para kunin yung the best of the best para sa negosyo nila.
10:28And as businesses, as business owners, gusto natin the best of the best.
10:31And I saw the gap, nung tinitignan ko yung activities ng Philippine Chamber dito sa Utah,
10:38nakita ko na naglalag talaga yung mga micro and small business owners when it comes to access to expertise.
10:44I see your advocacy, you believe, I'm aligned with your vision na as business owners, regardless of size, we have to grow.
10:54And for us to grow and scale, kailangan yung foundation mo solid.
10:59Then we started helping.
11:02Then I believe.
11:02So, nung ikaw ba, okay, you talk about kayo ay nagkaroon ng partnership, starting a business.
11:13Alam mo, marami kasing ako nakikita yung mga partners.
11:17Sometimes nakaisip lang ng idea, partner na agad.
11:21Or best of friends, nagpartner ng negosyo na wala namang pinag-uusapan.
11:26And it's sad to say, really, I've seen people, best of friends becoming best of enemies.
11:34Ikaw, nagpartner ka dito sa isang kakilala mo, paano mo na-establish that, you know, you're going into partnership,
11:42you're going to establish a business, and sharing the goals.
11:46Paano mo ginawa yun, Jive?
11:48Kasi matagal siya.
11:50Kasi, like they say, minsan mas madali pang maging kasosyo, hindi mo kakilala kesa sa kakilala mo, di ba?
11:57Correct, correct.
11:59Hindi siya masira.
12:00Pero what I loved about my partner is we both share that passion.
12:06The passion is what you do.
12:07She's highly respected in her field.
12:09She's a formidable professional.
12:12We share that passion for communications, for helping people, for helping businesses.
12:18And it took a long time when we talked about it that, hey, magaling ka sa ginagawa mo, magaling ako sa ginagawa ko,
12:25parang pwede natin itong i-share yung expertise.
12:30Dahil pareho ang background namin, we appreciate the academe.
12:34So malakas yung value namin sa knowledge, empowering skills, sharing knowledge.
12:40And it took us a while, first values, tinignan ko, tinignan namin yung expertise namin isa-isa.
12:47Respeto bilang tao, tsaka professionalism.
12:50Kasi kung wala kang respeto sa isa't isa, mahirap.
12:53Paano nyo iaangat yung negosyo nyo together?
12:57And ang tinignan ko dito, I had to test kung kaya naming dalawa to bring hard conversations.
13:04Kasi sa negosyo, lalo na sa kasosyo, you need to be able to comfortably have hard conversations.
13:11Meaning, ito negosyo, may problema. Anong problema? Anong solusyon?
13:15Pero nakaya namin i-compartmentalize yung pagsasama versus yung hats namin bilang negosyante.
13:23And I think that's very rare.
13:24So naswertehan ako in that regard.
13:28Oo nga. Kasi I like what you said, yung hard conversation.
13:34Kasi misan, ayaw ko muna pag-usapan, nakaka-hurt.
13:38Or very touching. Very touching ito.
13:42Kunyari, may problema sa negosyo, ayaw muna muna pag-usapan.
13:45Tsaka na muna yan, lilipas din yan.
13:48Pero I think what you said is importante.
13:51You're able to compartmentalize.
13:53At hindi mo, yun ang isa sa nakikita ko.
13:57Doing business, you have to be sometimes set aside emotionalism.
14:04Kasi minsan yung emotional, yung awa effect, tsaka na later na, yung pala bigla na lang sasabog.
14:12So, yung ba madaling gawin?
14:16Actually, it was a work in progress sa Lunapinoy ako when I came here.
14:19So, yung kulturya, nakakahiya, baka medyo diplomatic pa, paligoy-lugoyin pa.
14:25Pero yung kasosyo ko bilang Amerikano, sa kanya ko natutunan,
14:29yung actually pati asawa ko, na sa kanila, it's very interesting.
14:33Walang personalan, trabaho lang ito.
14:35Pag sinabi ko, hindi ko mali or pwede pang i-improve,
14:39hindi siya personal.
14:40Hindi kita ina-attack bilang person para sa atin ito.
14:43So, it was an adjustment.
14:45It took around six months.
14:46Actually, I admit, even now, minsan, hihimasin, e-enter pa ako kay partner.
14:52Pero siya yung diretsyo.
14:53Sabihin mo na diretsyo ano.
14:54And I've adjusted that time.
14:56And actually, it saves us time.
14:58Wala naman, may problema, anong solusyon?
15:02And like I said, antagal siya, Tito,
15:05we pinag-aralan namin muna yung dynamic namin,
15:09kung mag-jive bilang magka-sosyo.
15:11And the agreement is lalo na kasi magkakilala kami before becoming business partners.
15:16Correct.
15:17And nangyari, hindi maano ang negosyo.
15:20E then, move on.
15:21I mean, pwede siyang isara,
15:22pero i-preserve ang priority namin, yung pagtasama namin.
15:26And it helps because we both enjoy what we're doing.
15:29So, fun siya for.

15:32Hindi lang siya straightforward.
15:33So, work in progress.
15:34Ang negosyo, as you know, Tito, hindi siya madali.
15:37Hindi siya happy-happy.
15:37Well, you really outlined what should be in business and with a partner.
15:48Regardless of whether ka-related mo ba, ka-friend mo ba siya.
15:52Basta, I think what you said are really solid.
15:55Kasi how can you move on?
15:57How can you service your clients when you keep on putting out fires behind you?
16:03Diba?
16:04Para bang, hindi na tayo makamove on.
16:06An-away tayo dito, tampuhan tayo dito.
16:08Eh, hindi pwede eh.
16:10Diba?
16:10Sa negosyo kasi, parang move on, move on.
16:13Lalo na challenging yung negosyo mo.
16:16Tell us more about that business, Jive Nga.
16:18Ano ba talaga yung inyong ginagawa?
16:23At ano yung makakatulong ka?
16:25Lalo na sa mga nanonood sa atin.
16:27Baka naman sila ay pwedeng makakonek sa'yo.
16:30Opo.
16:30So, JNC is the company that we founded.
16:34At the most basic level, ang heart ng JNC is tinutulungan namin yung mga negosyo, mga organisasyon, mga business owners and leaders to effectively communicate their messages.
16:47Lalo na it's very competitive right now.
16:50Ang attention span ng isang tao is roughly 3 to 4 seconds.
16:55So, as business owners, kailangan medating ka kaagad.
16:59So, that says, ang expertise namin is strategy.
17:03Tinutulungan namin maglatag ng diskarte.
17:07Ang mga negosyante kung paano nila mailalathala, maikokommunicate kung ano yung business nila.
17:14So, that covers branding, that covers marketing, that covers messaging development.
17:22Kasi we tend to overlook and take for granted communication.
17:27Kasi akala dal-dal lang, akala logo lang, okay na.
17:30Pero hindi, Tito, you know it.
17:31Hindi pwede ang business, pwede na.
17:35Kailangan?
17:35So, first, if labas mo, medating ka na kaagad.
17:39Kasi otherwise, paano malalaman ng mga consumers mo, ng mga customers mo, ng mga kliyente mo kung ano ka, kung anong ginagawa mo, kung hindi sila interesado.
17:49And I feel very strongly about that, maski sa Filipino chamber, na as micro and small businesses, ang ang focus nila usually is the financial.
17:59And then, akala nila, logo, basta picture, okay na yun.
18:03Basta pangalan, okay na yun.
18:04Pero there's so many, there's a lot of details that go into that.
18:07Mula pangalan, mula logo, isang aspect lang yun.
18:10Pero immediately, matranslate mo na kung ano yung negosyo mo to your consumers.
18:18And yun yung sinasabi ko dito kanina earlier, smaller businesses, wala silang access to the kind of expertise that big corporations have.
18:28And I'm happy that also my business partner is very supportive that the chamber is allowing us to have a platform wherein we can offer agency-level expertise
18:38to smaller and micro businesses.
18:40Para, pag lumaki na sila, hindi yung gagasto sila ng mas madami.
18:44Kasi, oops, kailangan mag-troubleshoot.
18:46May supply sa tagline, may supply sa promise kung paano natin pinapresent yung negosyo natin.
18:52Then they end up spending more.
18:53So, bakit hindi natin sila, aside from financial knowledge, let's give them a strong foundation of their business identity.
19:01Kasi ang business identity natin is a part of us as business owners.
19:05Pero importante, jive.
19:09The world has no boundaries.
19:11We keep hearing that.
19:13We keep hearing, the world has no boundaries.
19:16Your business may be somewhere in a county in Utah, somewhere in the midst of Chicago.
19:25But again, social media is broadcasting 24-7 worldwide.
19:31How does, paano yung negosyante na ganito ako, biglang all of a sudden may mga nag-feedback.
19:39Oh, I heard you from Peru.
19:41Oh, I heard you from Canada.
19:44How can we do business?
19:46Is that part of what, how you can strategize in helping entrepreneurs?
19:50Yes, sir.
19:51In terms of general, the general trajectory, especially the advent of AI.
19:59Yes.
19:59But, personally, because yung ginagilawan namin ng communications, AI is there.
20:06We created it.
20:08We should be in front of it and be able to control it.
20:12Kasi sometimes, maganda ang AI kasi ni-revolutionize niya dito yung efficiency ng business operations.
20:18Kaya ka ni-revolutionize niya dito, pero ang trust kasi namin, at least ang personal belief ko is, there is a movement na bilang negosyante, kailangan we talk about differentiation.
20:29Bakit ikaw ang pipiliin ko of all kenta ng sabon?
20:34Bakit sabong panlaba mo ang bibilin ko?
20:37And the AI helps us because kaya natin mag-generate ng content, you know, it's easy.
20:43Pero, because everyone is tapping into the same tool, I think you will notice, there's a movement towards pare-pareho na yun.
20:52So, bilang tao, we should be able to, ang AI kasi what we tell our clients is, AI is there.
21:01Gamitin natin siya.
21:02Pero gamitin natin siya bilang creative assistant.
21:05Correct.
21:06Tayo yung may utak, tayo yung may discarte, tayo yung mag-desisyon.
21:10Hindi, sumalalay lang tayo sa AI fully.
21:14Pero it's 10 doors globally.
21:16Kasama siya sa discarding.
21:17Wala na siyang limit.
21:19There is business everywhere, if you want.
21:23Pero ano mo, ang iba kasi, pag pinag-uusapan na rin natin yung AI,
21:28ang daming sinasabi, ayoko niyan, ayoko niyan.
21:30Hindi, but I always say, it's a mindset.
21:33But, I mean, nung araw, I don't know whether, probably you were not born at that time.
21:39Yung typewriter.
21:41Okay, type A typewriter.
21:44At, again, ano pa ba yung mga nakikita natin?
21:47Yung fax machine.
21:48Everybody will say, ano, fax machine?
21:50Hindi, lalagay ko na lang sa mailbox.
21:53Ihulog ko sa post office.
21:55Lalagyan ko ng stamp.
21:56But, again, it's all a mindset, no?
21:58How you can absorb, how you can be flexible,
22:03and don't think of it as an enemy, but rather as a tool, sabi mo nga,
22:07to assist, di ba?
22:09Tama.
22:10But, again, this is where the humanness come in.
22:14The creativity.
22:16Di ba?
22:17Kasi, para bang, okay, pagluluto ng adobo,
22:20I'm sure, naku, naku, daan baka nagtatakaw ka na dyan,

22:23Okay?
22:24Pagluluto ng adobo at sinigang,
22:27lahat ng tao, sasabihin nila,

22:43I think, basically, sa negosyo, ganun din.

22:48Kasi, ang negosyo, what I've learned,
22:51lalo na, hindi ako negosyante dati.
22:56Ang nakita ko sa kanya, importante talaga na yung negosyo mo,
23:00you treat it as an extension of yourself.
23:03Yung negosyo mo is representative of you,
23:06of your values.
23:07It magre-reflect siya.
23:09It is a reflection of what's important to you.
23:12Correct.
23:13Kaya, now that AI is there,
23:17may mga napapadali,
23:18technology is there to enhance our lives,
23:21not to run our lives for us.
23:22Yes, yes, yes.
