00:30Of course, the basis is BMW, absolutely, in this case, even two, exactly.
00:36Und du bist hier, Ralf?
00:38Wie kam das?
00:39Exactly.
00:42Well, WTorch kam aus, weil ich immer ein Fortschritten fĂŒr Motorrad.
00:48Ich habe immer mit meinem Vater in der Garage und so weiter.
00:51My idea was always to have my own custom bike workshop,
00:59and then in 2014 I came up with the idea that I really wanted to take this to the next level,
01:04and of course I thought about the name and simply wanted to incorporate my connection to the Bavarian Forest somewhere.
01:09And yes, in our country, we call the Bavarian Forest the W and work for workshop.
01:22And yes, so.
01:24Yes, I think it's a brilliant naming convention.
01:27You have some really great ideas.
01:29You've made beautiful calendars with your bikes and a flyer like that.
01:32I was fascinated when I flipped through it and there was a saying in it.
01:38The Bavarian Forest is our home, the Bavarian Motorworks is our passion,
01:42and that's of course really great and a strong statement.
01:46How did you develop your love for BMW?
01:50Was it an experience or was?
01:52It actually threw my grandfather, because he used to have BMWs,
02:01and when I was 6 or 7 or something, I used to ride along with him,
02:05and they all used to tune them up a bit and race with them
02:07and built their own frames and built their own racing bikes and so on.
02:14Since I was already thinking,
02:16wow, that was an interesting topic,
02:19and of course I've also had a few Japanese people in the meantime in my career.
02:27We probably have, but yes,
02:29I simply think the brands of the products are great,
02:32the quality,
02:33especially with the ones that have been around for so many years,
02:36but the durability and the vehicle,
02:37it still works and it doesn't take long for it to be up and running again, so.
02:46Wonderful.
02:46Well, we're really happy that we've found this idyllic place here,
02:52and I'm really looking forward to our joint project.
02:56And you've already done quite a bit in the past,
02:59and I've already had a little peek in your showroom.
03:02There's something really special there,
03:04and I'd love to take a look at it with you now.
03:06Sure, the winter is a bit longer than elsewhere,
03:09here in Bavaria,
03:10it can easily last a month longer,
03:12and the snow here is longer.
03:18So the guitar is hanging on the wall.
03:23Are you a musician?
03:25Yes, exactly.
03:26Hobby, hobby musician.
03:28Nice.
03:29With family and yes.
03:30With family.
03:31Are they all playing along?
03:32The whole family.
03:33Feels it.
03:34You have two children.
03:35Exactly.
03:36Exactly.
03:36You've already introduced two boys to me.
03:38And everyone has it kind of like a silent rock band,
03:41as they say.
03:41Yeah, a little bit different.
03:43We have a silent rock band.
03:48Exactly.
03:48Nice.
03:50Okay, there's the good piece.
03:52Great.
03:52Great.
03:54I saw you exhibited it last year at the custom bike fair in Basel.
03:59It.
03:59Was brand new.
04:01So to speak.
04:02Exactly.
04:02Maybe you can tell us a little bit about the bike.
04:06Yes, the motorcycle was the idea of a customer and mine.
04:15We thought about whether we could make something a little fresher based on such a frame,
04:19a bit of a mix of styles and yes,
04:21the customer gave us free reign there,
04:23which is of course great and I said,
04:25go ahead and do it,
04:26it'll be fine.
04:27Uh, and well,
04:36I just wanted to try it out a bit upside down
04:38and build it a bit flatter
04:40and a bit of a style mix of modern parts
04:42and that's exactly what it is,
04:43it's
04:44from the A90 or the L.
04:49Exactly R90 headlight.
04:51Aha.
04:52Uh, the
04:53frame is, uh,
04:55from the R60 from 1965,
04:58the engine is an R8GS engine.
05:02Uh, the customer himself had a few motorcycles
05:04and used everything he had.
05:06And I thought about what I could use
05:14and then I simply built or had the rest built today
05:16and got the tank and modified it
05:18and made the rear and built the exhaust
05:19and yes,
05:20what I did was a bit more elaborate,
05:22but I think it was
05:23worth it,
05:29my dear Sean,
05:30I'm really excited.
05:32That's a really great style
05:34and a really interesting approach.
05:36this combination of putting
05:37such a historical bike
05:38in such a modern outfit
05:39and with such stylistic elements.
05:43I think it's really great
05:45how you created the rear here
05:46with this plastic part at the end.
05:48I really respect it,
05:50it's made
05:50of sheet metal,
05:51dot,
05:52sheet metal,
05:53sheet metal is very clear,
05:54everything,
05:55Ralph,
05:55he's honest.
05:57That's quality.
05:58I like that,
05:59great,
05:59very nice.
06:01Yes,
06:01I've seen that you always put a lot of thought
06:03into the conversions
06:04and I recently noticed this part.
06:06and I think that's a really cool solution
06:10because often there's a lot of cables
06:12and things in the rear area
06:13that you'd like to hide
06:14and that's where you got this component
06:16that you can then insert at the back.
06:19I've seen it on your bikes before,
06:21so it's a really great solution.
06:23and today it's really solid and finished.
06:26Great.
06:27Something a little different.
06:29Yes.
06:35Nice.
06:38And that's where it all started,
06:40or was that the first room or kest
06:41was the workshop all at once
06:43and with this shum.
06:46Yes,
06:46although it all just started
06:48in a different place.
06:51It wasn't actually in the forest yet.
06:55Was outside of the W,
06:56but already with the goal of going to Zergen
06:58and then there was also Fitch
06:59as a temporary stop.
07:01Yes,
07:02and I've been at this location
07:03for four years now
07:04and I'm actually really,
07:06really happy.
07:07I think a lot of people envy you,
07:09especially for this location here.
07:10I think you never have the problem
07:12of having to watch out for traffic
07:13when you're taking a test ride.
07:16The only thing is on Sundays.
07:18Yes,
07:19everyone in the Bavarian forest likes that.
07:21Exactly.
07:24But I think it's a wonderful place
07:25to be creative,
07:26to develop exactly these kinds of ideas
07:28and to be inspired in this great location
07:30and I'm so excited to see
07:32what will become of the bikes we gave you.
07:38We've all been excited
07:39and I think you'll surprise us a little.
07:41Yes,
07:42it'll be exciting.
07:43I've already seen something in your workshop,
07:45but that's the next thing anyway.
07:47I'd like to take a look at that with you.
07:49Maybe we can take a look at the workshop right away,
07:52where all the beautiful works of art are created.
07:54Yes.
07:55Okay.
08:00This is the Bavarian WT.
08:02That's how everything is natural there.
08:05So,
08:05there it is.
08:07This nice little piece.
08:09Exactly.
08:10And there's
08:10already a rear end.
08:12It fits perfectly now.
08:14I talked about it earlier
08:15and here we see it in the mounted state in red.
08:18Exactly.
08:19And that's great
08:19because everything is so nicely integrated.
08:22The taillights fit in here.
08:23You can put the indicators on there.
08:25Yes.
08:25And it's just so tidy.
08:27Exactly.
08:28That was really important to have a nice look.
08:31And in this case,
08:32I have complete freedom up top.
08:34I can design the seat completely freely.
08:37Yes.
08:37Yes.
08:39Well,
08:39those are great ideas
08:40because in the end,
08:41of course,
08:42it's a completely tidy vehicle
08:44and,
08:44uh,
08:45it's very solid and valuable
08:46and it will
08:47definitely last.
08:50Yes,
08:51there it is.
08:52The 18.
08:53I can see it.
08:54You've already started a bit.
08:55Exactly.
08:56A little bit has
08:58already happened.
08:59Yes.
09:00Yes.
09:03Ah,
09:03I'm so excited to see what it will be.
09:06Yes.
09:07But we're still keeping it very secret.
09:10Great.
09:11We're good.
09:12But of course,
09:12it's a great basis for something like this.
09:15Yes.
09:15What was your impression
09:16when you removed my seat and a wing?
09:19How did you experience that?
09:21Yes.
09:21Very positive,
09:22I have to say.
09:24Because it's simply well thought out.
09:27The tank can be dismantled in a very short time
09:29and the whole motorcycle is actually lying there
09:31so that you can start it.
09:33And that was really positive
09:35because it's just so easy to use.
09:39It's hidden under the tank
09:40in the engine housing and so on.
09:43That's really great.
09:45So,
09:45that was very important to us.
09:47We had two major themes
09:48in the development of the vehicle.
09:49On the one hand,
09:52of course,
09:53the ease of conversion,
09:54that you can expose it with just a few screws
09:56and then have a base
09:57with this beautiful frame swing arm line
09:59on which you can place it.
10:01And what was also very important to us
10:04was the tidiness
10:04that you can't see over the cables and lines,
10:07but that you can really hide them
10:08where it somehow works
10:09and that is very important
10:11for customizing the cleanliness.
10:13Exactly.
10:14And this stamp of approval
10:17from a customizer,
10:18that is of course always what we wanted
10:20and it is all the nicer
10:21when you noticed it
10:22and when you experienced it
10:23the way we actually imagined it.
10:26Well,
10:27perfect.
10:28I have to say,
10:30I'm actually familiar with it in this form,
10:32especially since it was very accessible,
10:34of course,
10:34but in between it was a bit more difficult.
10:40Yes,
10:40you work with a lot of older models.
10:42I think that's great.
10:45You have no qualms about it,
10:46whether it's a K model or a boxer,
10:48everything goes under the hammer here.
10:50Exactly.
10:51Something with a propeller.
10:52So,
10:53you have wonderful inhibitors there,
10:55I saw them.
10:55I'm always enthusiastic about tools
10:57and once again
10:58you can see the craftsmanship
11:00in the Bavarian forest.
11:01That's exactly where I'm at home.
11:03Done.
11:04Very nice.
11:07Well,
11:08Ralph,
11:08I'm really excited
11:09and of course I see creativity here
11:11and no matter where I look,
11:13I feel this emotion,
11:14this passion,
11:15this enthusiasm
11:16and this creativity.
11:21And I think that we have
11:22a really great partner in you
11:23and I'm super happy with the project
11:25and I'm looking forward to it
11:26being shown at some point.
11:29Yes,
11:29definitely.
11:32I also think it's a really great story
11:34and of course I'm super happy
11:35because that's what you would expect
11:37in my field as a customizer
11:38to do a project like this
11:40with such a partner.
11:45So,
11:45I think we can look forward to it
11:47and I think that's something great awaits us
11:48and I can hardly wait.
11:50But I'm definitely very,
11:51very glad that we're working with Ralph
11:53in this forest project
11:54and I think something really great
11:55is coming our way.
11:58Ralph,
11:58that's right.
11:59Thank you.
12:00Thank you very much.
