00:00Our vision is to have autonomous plant operations where the operators go from reactive work
00:11to more proactive work and by using new technologies such as SPOT we want to free up time for the
00:17operators and to have more stable process operations.
00:20We are here in Amsterdam at Cargo Multiod.
00:28My name is Martin Blomstein, I'm the plan manager of this location.
00:33We're going to have a look inside at SPOT the robot dock.
00:38The objective of the smart manufacturing team is to realize the leadership vision for the
00:42plan of the future.
00:46So we have many projects going on across our facilities in Europe and other regions to
00:50enable our company to achieve that vision.
01:02Our vision for the plan of the future involves moving toward autonomous plans self-driving
01:06plan where the people working can focus on constant improvement and increasing efficiency
01:11SPOT builds a few of those gaps we are old factory we are 45 years even plus 45 years old now
01:17if you would build a new plant you would have sensors everywhere on every machine but yeah
01:22we don't have that so that's why SPOT can really contribute their ins camera for monitoring assets.
01:34We have a lot of rotating assets in the plants, a lot of mechanical assets, austically, we check
01:40for air and steam leaks.
01:42And these are assets that we didn't have data and insights into before.
01:49In the past, our maintenance team did the inspection just by walking through the factory
01:53and you don't get any data from that.
01:57So now we can with SPOT we have the data and we can compare them with last weeks, last years
02:02or yesterday's data.
02:05SPOT can do this every hour always the same distance, always the same quality data collection
02:10and that's key for us.
02:12Orbit is the robotic field management system and the data platform for a robotic system.
02:18So what we currently use it for is to manage our SPOT to schedule missions and to view the
02:22data and share the insights we get from there.
02:27When you start your shift you check in you look at the data what SPOT has collected and
02:31then you could trust it that it's the same way as it was collected yesterday a week ago
02:35a month ago.
02:39SPOT gives me more data and more insight into our assets with which we make oil from seeds.
02:45We have presses, decents, pellet meals, all sorts of big equipment.
02:50If those fail, you have like a big problem because it's very hard work to get them working
02:54again because they lose a lot of product and also a lot of money of time.
03:00Key to us is to have stable and predictable operations and no surprise breakdowns.
03:07And I've already seen a couple of examples where SPOT detected certain out of order situations
03:12which really prevented us from having unexpected shutdown.
03:20SPOT has found us some overheating bearings lately which was a key finding because this
03:24asset is actually connected to multiple assets which could have caused us some unplanned downtime
03:29and also could have impacted multiple assets connected in this chain.
03:35A few weeks ago we found an issue with a ventilation system and because of SPOT being consistent
03:42in the measurements we found out we need to use another type of grease.
03:49We would never find the issue without SPOT.
03:52One of the things we've been testing out recently is AI visual INSPS.
03:58So we use the robot to walk around the plant, check things out and then assess via the AI
04:03natural language questions what it finds.
04:06So, you locate what you're trying to capture, you take a picture, and then, at the end, you
04:13basically ask a question and, this question could be a numerical one, a yes or no, or even
04:18an open-ended one.
04:21Cargo safety comes first, and that also includes people safety, also food safety.
04:27We want to avoid slipping hazards, tripping hazards, and any unsafe conditions in the plant.
04:33Some of the prompts we are using with SPOT today are around that.
04:36We are checking if doors are left open.
04:39That is a control around pests and housekeeping.
04:41We are checking our 5S boards, our safety signs, and our fire extinguishers, whether they
04:46are in place or not.
04:48Side view is a 36 plant view.
04:52What we currently use it for is to support our food and safety quality team by basically
04:57having another set of in the plant.
05:01SPOT walks this route multiple times a day, and then you can identify leaks of seeds and
05:06oil early and.
05:10You can also historically look back since the very beginning, when we got involved with Boston
05:15Dynamics and SPOT.
05:19We saw the robot as a vehicle to ease the day-to-day activities, manual activities of the operators.
05:27Invest in our people, buy kind of new technologies, and collaborate with Boston Dynamics.
05:34So it helps to show that we also invest to be there in the next 45 years.
05:40It's not about replacing operators the workforce.
05:43We want to give them the best tools to do the job right.
05:46Many people are retiring the coming year, so attracting new talent is really key for us.
05:52And we've seen that having SPOT running around it's a very attractive element for some new
05:57process operators.
06:02Actually the reason I work for Cargill is because of SPOT because I wanted to use the new innovations
06:07that are available at the market right now and a vision of how that will work and will
06:11help our industry especially our reliability of our planned sleep that I know that SPOT is
06:16working the night shift.
06:20So in Carroll we see SPOT as being the ears and eyes of our operators and maybe in the future
06:25even the nose.
06:29When we think of value it's easy to try and put a dollar figure on what we found we avoided
06:34a down time and that can be associated with some money saved.
06:38But in addition to that we see SPOT as an investment in Car's future.
06:43That kind of technology that we want to bring to our place to ask our people to do their job.
