Adamn Killa stopped by Genius to break down his track “Fall On.” Produced by Warheart and Aria1k, the song comes from his 'Generational Run' project. The Chicago rapper brought his quirky personality to dissect the lyrics, discuss the family fallout that inspired the song, share how he sparked his own dance trend for it, explain how his bars serve as manifestations, and much more!

00:00If you're a baddie watching Genius, this is for you.
00:09What inspired me in my life to write Fall On is I was at the rock bottom of my life.
00:14Found out some things about a cousin of mine that I don't speak of, like Voldemort.
00:19I just don't like him.
00:20He's just not a good person.
00:22He's actually a terrible person.
00:24That's the only person I'll say bad shit about.
00:26Other people I get over stuff, but him I just don't like him.
00:29I wish nothing good for him.
00:31But everybody else, I wish everything good for them.
00:33I was very upset and I just sat by my bed and I was like, I'm going to just record.
00:39Because normally I make my best music when I'm upset or something's going on in my life.
00:51I feel like at some point I probably was afraid of the grind because I stopped making music
00:55for a year.
00:56That was kind of me speaking to myself.
00:58You got to put the work in.
00:59Even though I've been putting in work, I felt like I could do more.
01:02I felt like I was at the bottom of my life.
01:05I was like, I can't get lower than this, so I might as well just do whatever.
01:08And then I started posting like 20 times a day, started making a lot of music, putting
01:13out music.
01:14If you're afraid of the grind, just putting the work.
01:15Energy you put into it will come back.
01:17I'm going to be there and tell my shit just like I'm going to fly.
01:20I'm going to cry.
01:21I'm going to cry.
01:22I'm going to cry.
01:23I'm going to cry.
01:2425 minutes before I slide, I put my head down, she takes things just like some key lime pie.
01:29So the trend I started was this dance I started doing, and I was just trying to think of something
01:35to dance and promote the song.
01:37Because I had another one when I was on all fours, shaking my head, and that started hurting
01:41my neck.
01:42I was like, I need to do something that doesn't hurt.
01:45So I started doing this.
01:46And don't forget the eye contact.
01:54In those lyrics where I said ball hog, I was kind of talking to myself about, I'm going
02:07to focus on myself.
02:08Because I feel like a lot of my career was focused on trying to help other people sometimes.
02:13This year I'm going to try to focus more on myself and not try to tell other people what
02:17they should be doing.
02:18Just tell myself what I should be doing.
02:23I actually lied.
02:24But I actually didn't make that much money.
02:25They were completely right.
02:27I was sleeping in my car.
02:28I didn't make any money.
02:29I hopped back into music, and now we're here.
02:43I'll go to a crib, they live in the wall.
02:44It was like people that were more famous, but they weren't living as good.
02:49They're not as hot as I thought.
02:50It was kind of mean.
02:51I don't think that same way now, but I was mad at a few people.
02:53It wasn't directed at everybody.
02:55She said, on two fly, let's go to Dubai.
02:57I'm a brand new guy, put in and said, oh my.
03:01They counted me out.
03:02I get them amounts.
03:04I slept on the couch.
03:05Did y'all buy a house?
03:07I bought me some land.
03:08I did buy land, actually.
03:09I bought land in California, but that was a while ago.
03:12I bought that when people said I fell off.
03:14The land was cheap, though.
03:15It was very cheap.
03:16I got it in a foreclosure sale.
03:18I bought it for like a dollar.
03:20I bought me some friends.
03:21I gave me some bands.
03:22I'm going to buy me a limb.
03:24I feel like my lyrics are like manifestations.
03:26A lot of stuff I say in lyrics become true, so that's why I never really say negative stuff.
03:31Because one time, I was like, if I get arrested, I could bond right out, and then I got arrested
03:35and had to bond out.
03:37And it was right after I made that song.
03:38And I was like, I'm never doing that ever again.
03:40So I only say positive shit in my songs.
03:43Positive towards me, at least.
03:57So my ad-lib, funny story, I started saying that ad-lib with that cousin, because I used
04:01to record with him at first, and I was like, and then I started saying, because somebody
04:06was calling me, and I was like, what do they want, while I was recording?
04:10And then it just evolved to that.
04:12I really don't like him.
04:15Let's talk about the cover art of Fallen.
04:17So it was these two fans.
04:19They saw me eating sardines.
04:20It was in my era where I was like, okay, I'm not going to spend all my money anymore.
04:24I'm going to eat sardines so I don't fall off again.
04:26And they were like, let us pull up and buy you some food.
04:29So we went into Giordano's and got pizza.
04:31And I took a picture with them, and I made it that cover art.
04:34I don't want to look at another can of sardines, so please stream my music.
