00:00Nobody is born a Hindu or a Muslim. Right? Nobody is born thinking that I am ugly or beautiful. But today you surely have some kind of concept about you that you are not born with. So if you are not born with it and today you have it, where did you get it? It was not there with you when you started your journey.
00:20What is ego? Very shortly, very precisely, the definition would be ego is the statement I am X. Whenever you say I am X, whenever there is a hidden assumption of any identity, that is ego. Whenever there is either an explicit or an implicit identity in place, that is ego. I am X. Now what are these Xs? There are thousands of them.
00:48If right now I give you an exercise that write down 20 statements beginning with I am. You would not only write down 20 statements, but you would be able to write 200. I am smart. I am clever. I am Hindu. I am an Indian. I am a male. I am a son. I am a friend. I am a cricket lover. And the list would continue.
01:07All these statements that are there constitute the ego. Ego means I. The very word ego means I. Ego means I am this. Ego is second hand because whatever you call as I am. I am X, I am Y, I am Z. That is an acquired belief.
