00:00Welcome to the video from the CarMagazine Tuning Blog.
00:09Today we have an exciting topic, Michelin and Gugier's Airless Tires.
00:15It's about the future of car tires and the vision of solving one of the biggest problems in road traffic.
00:21Unfortunately, this dream seems to have been shattered in Germany for the time being.
00:26But why is that, even though the idea sounds so promising?
00:30Car tires have hardly changed in recent decades.
00:33They experienced their last revolution in the 1950s with the introduction of tubeless tires.
00:39Today, they are the standard.
00:42However, Michelin and Gugier intended to literally reinvent the wheel with airless tires that do not require air pressure checks or refills.
00:52The Michelin Aptis, one such model, was successfully tested in Singapore in 2019.
00:58However, in Germany, the road traffic regulations prohibit the use of these tires, as they are not considered pneumatic tires, whose function is determined by the enclosed air pressure.
01:09The advantages of airless tires would be enormous.
01:13No air loss and therefore less maintenance, no damage from nails or screws.
01:19And Michelin assumes that these tires will last up to three times longer than conventional models.
01:25That sounds promising, especially when you consider that repairing today's tires in the event of minor damage is possible, but still complex.
01:34However, even this revolutionary technology cannot solve one major problem, tire wear.
01:42Each year, around 1.2 kg of microplastics from tire wear are released into the environment per person, more than from any other source.
01:51The new models are not spared from this either.
01:54Nevertheless, their longer service life could reduce the need for new tires, which would at least have a partially positive effect.
02:03What do you think of this development?
02:05Was the information about airless tires informative?

02:33Thank you.
