00:26Today, however, we are talking about an unusual variant, a mobile production studio for film
00:33shoots. The company PictureBlock Inc. specializes in making workflows on film sets more efficient.
00:42One of their most exciting projects is the Colorspace van,
00:46a luxurious mobile workstation that is specifically tailored to the needs of film directors.
00:51The creative mind behind this concept is Ryan Prouty, an experienced technician from the
00:57International Cinematographers Guild. The company ADF Sprinters from Simi Valley, California,
01:04was commissioned to implement it. They specialize in customized van conversions, with a focus on
01:11campers. However, the Colorspace van is one of the most unusual custom-made models.
01:18There are currently two different models of the Colorsband available for rent.
01:25The first version is based on a 2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a 170-inch wheelbase,
01:31while the newer model is based on a 2021 Sprinter.
01:37Both vehicles have all-wheel drive, making them ideal for hard-to-reach locations.
01:42While the interior of the second version is slightly more upscale, the basic concept remains the same
01:49for both models. From the outside, the two vans are almost identical. They have been equipped with
01:57various upgrades, including a roof rack, side steps and a transport box at the rear.
02:02There is also a special connection panel for cameras and other technical equipment.
02:10Particularly impressive is the ability to monitor up to 16 cameras simultaneously.
02:16A Starling system on the roof also ensures a reliable internet connection,
02:20no matter where the van is located.
02:22The interior is divided into two separate areas.
02:27The front area serves as a viewing area, while the rear section houses the technical room,
02:32which is only accessible via the rear doors.
02:37This layout ensures that the technicians can work undisturbed while the footage is reviewed and
02:42piece up front.
02:44The Colorspace van is primarily used for reviewing film material,
02:48color corrections, editing, and sound mixing.
02:52According to Ryan Prouty, the production process in the film industry has remained largely unchanged
02:57for years.
02:59All the equipment, including monitors, tents, and other accessories, has to be laboriously
03:05transported to the location and set up.
03:08With the Colorspace van, this logistical effort is largely eliminated, as all the necessary systems
03:14are already integrated.
03:16A major advantage is the comfort and efficiency that the van offers.
03:19The front review area is equipped with everything a director needs.
03:26A 55-inch 4K HDR OLED display is mounted on a partition wall to the driver's cab.
03:33Two large armchairs and three additional seats behind it ensure a pleasant working atmosphere.
03:38The director's chair is equipped with a special communication system and individual volume controls.
03:46In addition, there is a small seating area in the front area with two benches,
03:51two lagoon tables, and cup holders, so that a total of seven people can sit at the same time.
03:58Above are four open storage compartments, which are illuminated with LED strips.
04:02These provide a pleasant, dimmable lighting atmosphere Y, which is ideal for viewing film scenes.
04:11Side windows and a skylight provide daylight, but can be completely darkened.

04:20Other technical highlights include a powerful air conditioning system, a heating system and

04:31The exact specifications are not known, but it is certainly powerful enough to operate
04:35all the film equipment.
04:39The color space van has already been used for well-known productions by Apple TV+, Netflix and
04:44Amazon Studios, including series such as The Terminal List and The Morning Show.
04:48This mobile production solution makes the work process on the film set much easier and more
04:55efficient and comfortable.
