00:00Welcome to the latest video from Car Magazine Tuning Blog, where today we take a closer look
00:12at the Audi A5 Avant and the Mercedes C Class T. These two premium station wagons are in fierce
00:18competition, as Audi is using the Avant name for the first time with the A5, positioning the
00:24successor to the A4 in the upper midsize class. However, the main competitor remains the tried
00:31and tested Mercedes C Class T model. How do these two models perform in the categories of dimensions,
00:37interior, engine range, and price? Let's do a detailed comparison.
00:43The new Audi A5 Avant is based on a further development of the A4, although Audi calls
00:49it a completely new platform. It retains the tried and tested front or all-wheel drive and
00:54longitudinally mounted engines. In terms of dimensions, the A5 Avant has grown significantly.
01:00It is 6.7 cm longer and 1.3 cm wider than its predecessor. The wheelbase has grown by 7.2
01:07cm, which significantly improves space for passengers. Visually, the A5 Avant appears more premium and
01:15exciting than the last A4 Avant, thanks primarily to the modern design of the headlights and taillights
01:21with OLED technology. In comparison, the Mercedes C Class Estate has been on the market since 2021 and
01:29still has a very fresh design. However, the Daimler lacks a few centimeters in exterior dimensions
01:35compared to the Audi A5 Avant. One advantage, however, is the drag coefficient. With a drag coefficient
01:41of 0.27 compared to the Audi's 0.30, the Mercedes C Class Estate has the edge. The estate is also
01:48available as an all-terrain version for rough terrain, with higher ground clearance and a slight
01:53off-road look. Audi has not yet offered a corresponding A5 Allroad. Thanks to its larger dimensions, the new
02:04Audi A5 Avant offers passengers noticeably more space than the previous A4. Interestingly, the trunk volume
02:12is smaller, with a capacity of 448 to 1,396 liters. Compared to other models in this segment, this is
02:22rather mediocre. One reason for this is the larger battery in the two mild hybrids, which is installed
02:28beneath the trunk floor. Inside, Audi has completely redesigned the cockpit and dashboard. The layout,
02:35which is also seen in the A6, Q6, e-tron, and the new Q5, impresses with a curved XL display,
02:4311.9 inches for the instruments and 14.5 inches for the infotainment system, which runs on Android
02:49automotive-based software. There is also an optional 10.9-inch passenger display, which leaves a high-quality
02:57impression. However, some of the materials in the A5 interior feel a bit cheap and don't always match
03:04the aspirations of the upper mid-range class. In contrast, the C-Class presents itself with stylish
03:11surfaces, atmospheric lighting, and large displays. The digital instruments measure 12.3 inches, while the
03:19vertically arranged 11.9-inch infotainment screen is centrally located. The trunk of the Mercedes C-Class
03:26is larger, offering a volume of at least 590 liters, which can be expanded to 1510 liters by folding down
03:34the rear seats. In terms of quality, the C-Class has lost some of its value compared to its predecessor
03:41in some areas that aren't regularly touched. However, compared to the Audi A5 Avant, it offers a more airy
03:49rear compartment. The Audi A5 Avant's engine lineup includes four combustion engines.
03:56In 2025, two plug-in hybrid petrol variants with 300 and 367 horsepower are to be added,
04:04which should offer an electric range of 100 kilometers. The standard 2.0 TFSI petrol engine
04:11is available in variants with 150 and 204 horsepower. The provisional top model is the S5 with a new
04:193.0 L turbo V6 engine with 367 horsepower, which, thanks to a new powertrain generator and a 1.7
04:27kilowatts battery, almost achieves full hybrid status. The Zacon Zero TDI diesel produces 204 horsepower
04:34and is optionally available with all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive is standard on the S5. All models are
04:41equipped with a C-Bang dual-clutch transmission. The Mercedes C-Class, on the other hand, offers an
04:48impressive selection of engines, including petrol and diesel mild hybrids as well as plug-in hybrids.
04:55A total of 11 variants are available, with outputs between 170 and 680 horsepower. The plug-in hybrids
05:03enable an electric range of around 100 kilometers. Depending on the engine, the C-Class is available
05:10with rear or all-wheel drive, and all models feature the familiar new automatic transmission.
05:16Prices for the Audi A5 Avant in Germany start at €44,850 with the 150 horsepower petrol engine.
05:22The diesel starts at €558, while the S5 Avant costs at least €80,150. The cheapest variant of the
05:32Mercedes C-Class T is the C-180, available from €4,650. Since Mercedes is currently more flexible
05:40with pricing, exact figures are difficult to determine. According to the configurator,
05:45the diesel C200D starts at €50,228, while a plug-in hybrid is available from €64,213 in the C300E.
05:55The top-of-the-line AMG C63 SE performance model currently starts at €109,942.
06:03In conclusion, both the Audi A5 Avant and the Mercedes C-Class T have specific strengths and
06:10weaknesses. While the Audi impresses with its modern design and spacious interior,
06:17the Mercedes C-Class scores with a wider range of engines and flexible pricing.
06:21Which choice is better ultimately depends on individual preferences and needs.
