00:00Arun Lal represented India between 1982 and 1989. He was known for his gritty and fighting spirit.
00:07Arun Lal was never intimidated by the fierce falling attacks. During India's 1989 tour of
00:14the Western days, he faced a fiery-paced attack of Malcolm Marshall, Cirtley Ambrose, and Courtney
00:21Walsh with remarkable compoyers. In that particular innings at Port of Spain during the third test,
00:27Arun Lal scored a fighting 30 runs of 80 balls, including four boundaries, spanning 145 minutes
00:34at the crease before being dismissed. Let's watch his fatigue technique.
00:57It's a square leg, and a happy start for India, four runs.
01:05You can afford the close fielders, three slips, a gully,
01:09setting it off, short square leg.
01:13Good timing that, no strength, he's just using the pace of the ball as it came towards him,
01:17just rolling the wrists on it, and away it goes. That was a good shot by Arun Lal.
01:22He's a gutsy player. Nobody having a chance of catching that.
01:29First test reached 310 test rickets. Arun Lal is playing a fighting innings.
01:42Nicely angled bat. Nothing spectacular, but Arun Lal behind the ball, on top of it,
01:48and just slanting the ball away there for four runs, no third man fielding.
01:57Good gutsy performance by Arun Lal.
02:01Indeed, he really didn't fancy that too much, but at least he got behind the ball, which
02:06you can't ask more. He's a short man, and he's going to find a bounce on this pitch
02:10very difficult to overcome. That's for Simmons. He's feeling as a substitute at the moment.
02:21And this is Courtney Walsh.
02:27Again, nicely steered. Nothing spectacular, but correct, by Arun Lal.
02:32And Pip Richards always keeps his fielders up around the bat, looking for catches rather than saving fours.
02:38And why not, with first innings of 314 on the board.
02:44Arun right behind this again, just opening the face,
02:49and getting a reward because all the fielders are up for the catch.
02:53Nobody's thinking at this stage of saving runs. No third man.
03:02Runs for Arun Lal, but a very close one.
03:07Good calling. Shastri is backing up.
03:12Ideal way for India to move forwards, take their short singles wherever they can.
03:17And this chap Ambrose is proving himself. What a fielder.
03:22I mean, look at that. That's a left-handed pickup for a right-handed man.
03:25Throwing off balance, and only a matter of a few degrees off line.
03:32Again, that sloping bat shot of Arun Lal really doesn't intend to hit the ball very far.
03:41He's got the priceless asset there of staying still, and a very slack right hand
03:45means that the ball won't carry off the edge to the slipfielders.
03:48Oh, very lucky. Very lucky indeed. You see the hesitation now creeping in,
03:59once Marshall's got his rhythm and his line.
04:01Yeah, by the way, they've taken his pad off, and they're looking at his leg.
04:10Oh, a definite sign it is cramped. They're pushing his toes upwards.
04:16Perhaps there's some help at hand.
04:18There's Richards to Arun Lal. A fiel for LBW.
04:28It's turned down.
04:36Now he played a shot at this as opposed to Rahman last over.
04:39Off the field, Arun Lal's life is equally fascinating. He completed his schooling at
04:46Mayo College, Ajmer, and earned his undergraduate degree from S.T. Stephen College, Delhi,
04:53two of India's most prestigious institutions. His highest test score, a solid 93 runs, came against
04:59the formidable West Side at Kolkata in 1987. In his personal life, Arun Lal found love again later
05:07in life. At the age of 66, he married his long-time companion Bulbul Saha on May 2, 2022 in Kolkata.
05:16Interestingly, Bulbul Saha is 28 years younger than Arun Lal, a testament to the fact that love knows no
05:24age boundaries. If you like this video, please comment, share, and subscribe. Thank you very
05:29much.
