00:00In this video, behold the towering spectacles of Courtney Walsh, fearsome spell of fast-balling,
00:06a divorce dating 4 for 37 in 18 overs, laced with five medians against India in the third
00:12test at Port of Spain, April 1989. Courtney Walsh, the tall Jamaican giant, struck with
00:19unrelenting rhythm and unyielding precision, he sent back W. V. Raman, Kiran Moray, Arshad
00:25Yub and Narendra Harwani, each dismissal a telling reminder of the power and manners
00:31that West Indies fast-balling once commanded. The Indian bassman, armed to the teeth with
00:36protective gears, still founds little solace against Courtney Walsh's thunderbolts.
00:41Let's enjoy Walsh's spells.
00:43All right, Courtney Walsh is the man replacing Amos.
00:53Courtney Walsh, the bowler.
00:57It's wide, and he's got a touch. So, Wilkery Benkut Rahman, the 22-year-old from Madras,
01:05has gone after a long fight out there. He's played some fluent strokes, but
01:10attempted by Courtney Walsh to flash away at something just that little bit too wide.
01:15Not a shot he'll remember with any pleasure, and certainly not one of distinction.
01:21Could easily have left that. It was well up at shoulder-high to the wiki-keeper.
01:24Now, here's another wiki-keeper, and a very gutsy one too, Tony.
01:28Yes, Kiran Moray has survived.
01:31There are some rotis there. Eat one of those, and you needn't eat for a week.
01:34A sip like lead shot in the stomach, I'm afraid, at 95 for seven.
01:41I suspect that India feel like they've been on rotis for the week.
01:43Eat one of those, and you can't eat for a week.
01:45Walsh again.
01:56I hope surviving outside off stump.
01:58And he didn't get anywhere near this. This is a perfectly straight ball.
02:09And he is a tail end batsman after all.
02:11By you.
02:20Ah, it's all over for Kiran Moray.
02:22Right through the gap between bat and pad.
02:24They tell you in the textbooks to keep them close together.
02:28Didn't happen for Kiran that time, and overgrew the stunts.
02:31I suspect that Kiran is suffering from shell shock from Barbados,
02:37where the bouncers were going past his nose every other ball.
02:40And it was very apprehensive pushing forward there.
02:4499 for eight. 47 over.
02:47129 for eight now, India. Real struggle here.
02:51Bit of a fight from the tail enders.
02:54That beats Chetan outside the off stump.
02:56Marvellous the way the tail enders suddenly take batting seriously.
03:04Played well inside this. Didn't do much off the pitch.
03:07Bat is straight enough, but down the wrong line.
03:12Courtney Walsh.
03:18And again, the arms go up and, well,
03:20little Chetan is rather annoyed with himself there.
03:24Think boy, he says.
03:26Nick behind the ball.
03:28He was never in line at all, the right turn.
03:30Look at his right foot is.
03:38Still to be Courtney Walsh.
03:43Oh, he's gone. Beautiful ball.
03:46Moved very late back into Ayub.
03:50And he's pulled by Walsh for a very fine and fighting 29 runs.
03:54Extended the Indian score beyond the expectations of the start of play, certainly.
04:05But this was a useful delivery, just pitching outside the off stump.
04:08I have got in a reasonably good position there, but look at the gap between bat and power.
04:13That was his undoing.
04:14So West Indy is almost there, nine wickets down now.
04:22And Irwani, no great batsman.
04:25You see his average, 6.25.
04:33West Indy is well on top.
04:34Oh, that really hurt Chetan Sharma.
04:43Down goes the bat, and down goes poor Chetan.
04:46And there's no prizes for guessing where they hit him.
04:54Lightly called the mid-drift.
04:56And it's always amusing to everyone else.
04:59I suppose, as you say, Tony, hit him somewhere between the elbow and the knee.
05:02But, oh boy, those are really painful.
05:05And the fielders and the other batsmen usually find it highly amusing.
05:08But the poor recipient needs mouth-to-mouth resuscitation there, I think.
05:13Well, I'm not sure if that's secure.
05:19It's a very long count he's taking.
05:20No problems to them on that count.
05:32Courtney Walsh again.
05:35Oh, no, not again.
05:39Ah, dear, dear, dear.
05:41My man's had enough.
05:44I think the towel will be coming in any moment.
05:48He's back on his feet anyway.
05:49He's taken a compulsory eight count.
05:54Now, that was a useful ball.
05:55Look at that.
05:55That came back like a quick off-breaker.
05:57Chetan, you could almost hear him shout before the ball hit him.
06:01I wonder what sort of mood he's in now to face Courtney Walsh yet again.
06:06No mood at all.
06:08But it's a no-ball.
06:12There's the damage.
06:14I'm not sure if Chetan Sharma wouldn't have preferred to be known.
06:17I mean, he certainly gave himself a lot of room for this.
06:22He's got no idea behind the ball.
06:23Look where his right foot's gone.
06:24He's waiting for the third one straight in the midriff, as you said.
06:27Well, Walsh has softened him up.
06:36But that's Hirwani, and Hirwani's out.
06:39And so little Chetan Sharma, at his non-striking end, survives.
06:42Hewani is out, and Chetan Sharma is not out, 19.
06:52Yeah, well, he's the number 11 batsman with an average of six, and you can see why.
06:56No ball out, 150.
06:59And still, we have to say that the top score was the number one batsman, Arun Nala, and only 30.
07:05Great performance by Marshall and Walsh.
07:08A real demolition job there on the Indian batting order.
07:12Nice little fight towards the end by Ayuk and Chetan Sharma.
07:18The follow-on has been avoided, but it's quite a deficit.
07:25It was a spell carved out of pure intimidation.
07:29Relentless, accurate, and hostile.
07:32With every strike to the crease, Courtney Walsh seems to colossal, and with every ball he hurled,
07:38the Indian resistance crumbled.
07:40His fiery buzz propelled the West Indies to a thumping victory by 217 runs,
07:46giving the host a commanding to an elite in the four-match series.
07:50For the lovers of the game, these are vintage moments,
07:53a cherished reminder of the Caribbean's golden age,
07:56when fast-boiling reigns supreme and best men across the world wore courage as their only armor.
08:02Walsh in full flight embodied the very spirit of that era, tall, fearsome, and unforgettable.
08:09His spell at Port of Spain stands not merely as a statistics,
08:12but as a memory asht in the chronicles of cricketing history.
08:16It reminds of the time when the West Indies' pace quartet struck fear across continents,
08:22and Walsh himself would go on to be one of the game's most enduring fastballers.
08:28Cricket fans, what do you recall of Walsh in this prime?
