00:00It was a tight race between the centrist Liberal D66 and Far-Right Party for Freedom as the first results came in for the Dutch parliamentary election, with a difference of just 2,000 votes in the early morning.
00:16Both parties are set to receive 26 seats in the 150-seat House of Representatives.
00:21It was a big win for the Liberal D66 party, led by Rob Jette, coming from just nine seats in Parliament to becoming one of the biggest parties.
00:31For Geert Wilder's BVV, it was a setback, going down from 37 seats and a landslide victory in the 2023 election.
00:39At the same time, smaller parties on the radical right, including Ja 21 and the Forum for Democracy, made big wins.
00:47And with a result of 20 seats, the loss of five seats dealt a significant blow to the Green-Left Labour Party, whose leader Frans Demmermans stepped down shortly after the exit poll.
00:58So while the big win for the Liberals shows a trend towards the centre, continued support for the right remains strong, presenting a difficult task in the formation of a coalition in the coming months.
01:11Emma de Ruijzer, from The Hague, for Euronews.
