00:00Polls have opened across the Netherlands in a snap parliamentary election,
00:05which comes after the ruling four-party coalition was brought down by Geert Wilder's far-right Party for Freedom in June.
00:13One day before the election, opinion polls indicated an extremely tight race between Wilder's party and more moderate parties,
00:20including the Green-Left Labour Party, Centre-Left D66, and the centrist Christian Democratic Party.
00:26That means that the party that comes out on top could make the difference in pivoting the new governing coalition towards left of centre or further towards the right.
00:38The first exit poll is expected at 9pm as soon as polls close.
00:43Historically, Dutch exit polls give an accurate prediction of the final results, with marginal differences of one to three seats.
00:51Negotiations will likely begin on Thursday into the make-up of the next governing coalition.
00:56Emma de Ruiter from The Hague for Euronews.
