00:16The deadliest police operation in Rio de Janeiro's history left more than 100 dead.
00:21Among those killed were four police officers. The others, mostly young black men, were considered
00:26disposable by Governor Claudio Castro, from the same party as Jair Bolsonaro.
00:34We are here, alongside the families, searching for the bodies, the friends who are out there
00:39in the woods, because they too are human beings like us. If it were my body that were there,
00:43they would also be searching for mine. I've been a criminal lawyer for years, and that
00:51extremely disastrous operation by the governor, and you see the result here, this is surreal.
00:55This reminds me of what K. Duvalongo was like, with the massacre of black people from the
00:59African diaspora.
01:03According to the governor, it was an operation to halt the advance of Rio's largest criminal
01:11faction, but it turned into a massacre. Residents of Complexo Du Olemayo, one of the favelas
01:16affected by Tuesday's operation, spent Tuesday night collecting the bodies.
01:20An unplanned, predictable operation, one that strips all the rights of the workers of Rio
01:29de Janeiro. It deprives people of their right to come and go, because Governor Claudio Castro's
01:34security policy, is one enforced with bullets.
01:40A day after the massacre, the city streets are trying to return to normal between everyday
01:48violence, and the people's desire for peace.
01:54Because only the poor are dying, the rich are all safe, sound, in their homes, with plenty
01:58of security, and it's the politicians. In other words, this has to stop, because innocent
02:03people are dying too. As they say, they are victims.
02:06Necropolitics is the basis of the security model adopted by the extreme right that governs
02:16the state of Rio.
