00:00Welcome to our latest video from the Auto Magazine Tuning Blog, where we introduce DS's brand new electric flagship, the DS No. 8.
00:15This innovative vehicle marks a significant step for DS in electromobility and offers three different engine variants, including two rear-wheel drive and one all-wheel drive variant.
00:24The DS No. 8, pronounced DS No. 8, is described by the manufacturer as an SUV coupe.
00:32However, we would classify it more as a crossover between a sedan and an SUV.
00:37With a length of 4.8 meters, we consider it to be in the midsize class, while DS classifies it as a luxury class.
00:44Technically, the DS No. 8 is based on the STL-ER medium platform, making it a sister model to the Peugeot E3008, E5008 and the Opel Grandland Electric.
00:57The batteries and drive systems of the DS No. 8 are familiar from the sister models already presented.
01:02Three versions are available, the DS No. 8 four-wheel drive, the short-range DS No. 8 four-wheel drive, long-range, and the DS No. 8 all-wheel drive, long-range.
01:15Although DS has not provided any specific information about the type of electric motors, they are likely to be permanent magnet-synchronous motors.
01:23During the driving event of the Polo E3008, it was mentioned that the all-wheel drive vehicle can decouple the 83-kilowatts rear axle via a mechanical clutch when it is not needed.
01:36This means that the rear axle does not have to brake or be supplied with power.
01:41According to DS, the control of the all-wheel drive depends on the selected driving mode.
01:46In Eco mode, only the front wheels are driven, except in cases of high power demand or kickdown.
01:52In normal mode, the rear-wheel drive is deactivated between 15 and 140 kilometers per hour, while it remains activated at low and high speeds and in conditions of poor traction.
02:05In sport and all-wheel drive modes, the all-wheel drive is permanently available, with sport mode prioritizing optimal performance and all-wheel drive mode focusing on the best possible traction.
02:15The motors on the front axle come from the joint-venture NDE-CPSAI motors, which manufactures them in Trimmies, northern France.
02:25According to an article by ITIL Passion, this is likely the M4 engine.
02:31The 83-kilowatts motor on the rear axle, however, comes from Valio, at least in the E308.
02:37The DS No. 8 offers two battery options, which, at 74 and 97.2 kilowatts, have similar net capacities to its sister models.
02:48The medium-sized 82-kilowatts battery from the Grandland is not offered here.
02:53The large battery can provide more power for short periods, which explains the values in our table.
03:01For example, 169 kilowatts becomes the stated 191 kilowatts, 180 kilowatts becomes 206 kilowatts, and in the all-wheel drive version, 276 kilowatts is available.
03:13The battery cells are manufactured by the RCC Joint Venture in Billy-Beclau-Dauverin in northern France.
03:19According to information on the E308, new NMC-811 cells are likely to be used throughout.
03:26The E3008 initially used NMC-611 cells from BYD for the small battery.
03:33The battery is charged at up to 160 kilovolts.
03:37The maximum charging power is supposed to be maintained between 20 and 55 percent.
03:43This means that the batteries can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in 27 minutes.
03:49This results in a charging speed of 1.6 and 2.2 kWh per minute, respectively.
03:54The latter value is very good for a 400-volt system.
03:59According to DS, 10 minutes should allow you to recharge enough electricity for 200 hours of kilometers.
04:05According to our calculated average values, this is a maximum of 167 kilometers per hour.
04:10For alternating current, an 11-kilowatts onboard charger is standard.
04:14A 22-kilowatts charger will be available later as an option.
04:18The onboard charger is bi-directional, meaning you can charge external devices via the onboard power supply.
04:24The stated WLTP consumption figures seem unrealistic, but we already know this from the last Stellantis of the Premier.
04:31Values of around 13 kWh were also initially stated for the Astra Electric E308 and E3008.
04:40Later, manufacturers rode back and now state values of 16 to 19 kWh.
04:46Regarding the E3008, it was stated,
04:49the originally promised data were pure driving consumption without charging losses, i.e., not WLTP values.
04:56In fact, the consumption figures appear to be calculated from the ranges and net capacity, which is misleading.
05:03Quote,
05:03The DS8 has three recuperation levels.
05:08The recuperation level is selected via paddles on the steering wheel, and the last-used mode is saved.
05:15Additionally, a button on the center console can be used to activate one-paddle driving,
05:20with a deceleration of 12.5 meters per second squared.
05:23The body shape is reminiscent of the 2020 DS AeroSouport Lounge concept car,
05:30which was classified as a shooting brake at the time.
05:34This description still fits, with the addition of a raised shooting brake.
05:39At 4.80 meters, the 8 is about as long as the Peugeot E58.
05:44The wheelbase is also identical, however, at 1.58 meters, its height is over 10 centimeters lower.
05:51DS is proud of its excellent aerodynamic.
05:54The drag coefficient is 0.24.
05:57The frontal area measures 3.5 square meters.
06:00The front door handles are recessed and extend electrically when needed.
06:04The rear ones are integrated into the C-pillar.
06:07The air intakes can be opened or closed using flaps.
06:11The hood is also slung low.
06:14All wheels, from 19 to 21 inches, have an aerodynamically optimized design.
06:19We don't need to say much more about the look,
06:22as most of it was already familiar from the teaser images.
06:26However, these images didn't yet reveal the illuminated grille,
06:30in which vertical lines of light replace the traditional chrome slats.
06:34The DS logo in this DS luminar screen is also illuminated.
06:39There are also vertical fangs, somewhat reminiscent of the PO8.
06:43The shape of the rear lights picks up on this vertical element and expands it into a three-beam design.
06:51When parked, the front door handles are flush.
06:56When approaching, they extend electrically.
06:59DS promises that extensive aluminum of unusual thickness is used inside.
07:04This is complemented by leather seats, with integrated headrests and massage cooling and heating functions.
07:12A special innovation are the special neck warmers in the front.
07:16In the rear, the backrests can be reclined by up to 30 degrees.
07:19The seats there also have cooling and heating functions, both in the seat and the backrest.
07:27The cockpit features a 10.20-inch instrument display and a 16-inch touchscreen.
07:32The DS number 8 also features a head-up display with augmented reality,
07:40a camera-based interior mirror,
07:42and a night vision system that highlights moving hazards directly on the instrument display.
07:48The system also includes voice recognition including chat GPT,
07:53the Electra 3D audio system from Focal with 14 speakers,
07:574 USB-C ports, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
08:00The two-tiered center console features the automatic transmission selector,
08:06driving program switches, and the volume control on the upper tier.
08:10A glass roof is available as an option,
08:13with a special coating designed to absorb infrared rays to keep heat out in summer and in in winter.
08:20The trunk holds 620.
08:22The seats can be folded in segments in a ratio of 402040.
08:27The maximum volume has not yet been specified, however.
08:30The DS8 will be offered in PALACE and EEDL trim levels.
08:36Five exterior colors are available, brown, white, silver-gray, and black.
08:42The DS Active Scan Suspension comes standard.
08:45This system automatically adjusts the shock absorbers to the road surface via solenoid valve.
08:50The surface is analyzed using a camera, as well as position and acceleration sensors.
08:58Unusual for an import brand is the predictive cruise control,
09:01which automatically adjusts speed before bends, roundabouts, or intersections,
09:06as well as proactively at speed limits.
09:08The navigation system independently plans the necessary charging stops,
09:14taking into account the previously desired charge level upon arrival.
09:18The battery is automatically prepared for fast charging.
09:22A few months after the market launch, the charger itself will support plug-in charging,
09:28eliminating the need for identification via an app or charging card.
09:31The DS8 is now the fourth DS model.
09:37Three more models have already been announced.
09:39Citroën C5 Aircross, Jeep, Compass Electric, and Lancia Gamma.
09:44Is the DS8 therefore the same in green?
09:47Well, yes, for the most part when it comes to drivetrains and batteries.
09:51But DS combines all-wheel drive with a large battery,
09:54Poigo with a small one, and Opel doesn't yet offer an all-wheel drive variant.
09:58Furthermore, the number 8 clearly sets itself apart from its sister models with its body,
10:04interior, and equipment.
10:06The same should also apply to the prices, though.
