A council-owned car park in Sydney’s inner south will soon become a much-needed indigenous aged care facility. The City of Sydney awarded the $20 million site to a local provider for just $1 to ensure elders have access to culturally safe care. And a warning to Indigenous viewers - this story contains images of people who have died.

00:22After an open call out, the City of Sydney Council awarded Wyanga Aboriginal Aged Care
00:28the $20 million site in exchange for the nominal fee of $1.
00:34What's very special about it for us is that First Nations Elders will be living in the area

00:51This project means it will be able to expand its services in a space that's now dedicated
00:56to aged care in perpetuity.
00:58Once this facility is built, it will be the only of its kind in the Sydney City region.
01:05Wyanga will partner with not-for-profit Uniting who will now begin the design and construction.
01:11Once built, operations will officially be handed over to Wyanga.
