Sal Capaccio on the possible disconnect between HC Sean McDermott and OC Joe Brady
Transcript
00:00I think, A, there's this perception that this coach just doesn't want to throw, and it's just wrong, and people need to stop thinking like that, and that's just a pre-belief and notion from a lot of people that they just have to stop believing, I guess.
00:12I don't know.
00:13The second part of that is, then you get to Joe Brady, who's the offensive coordinator, who was asked about Sean's comments, and, hey, Sean, you know, you've got to be better at throwing the ball.
00:24What do you think about the passing game?
00:25Well, he wasn't asked about Sean's comments.
00:26Brought up, he was asked about it.
00:28He said, we didn't really need to pass it yesterday, meaning Sunday.
00:33There are always elements you want to clean up, technique, scheme.
00:36Anytime you run the ball for 240, you're going to be pleased with how it went.
00:39He said, we have shown, looking back at the Baltimore game, we can throw the ball in passing situations when we need to.
00:45I'd love to throw for 300 or run for 200, but that's not how the game went.
00:48Then he said later, he has no concerns about the passing game, and I think what's happening is, clearly, like you're getting,
00:57and I don't blame anybody for saying this, the head coach, he's sounding like he has some concerns about the passing game.
01:05The offensive coordinator sounds like he doesn't.
01:07Now, does Joe Brady actually have some concerns that he doesn't want to air out in public?
01:11Probably.
01:11That's what I'm wondering.
01:12Probably right, right?
01:13Like, from what you know about how he usually does these press conferences, is it not possible that he's saying he doesn't have concerns,
01:19but he knows that they've got some problems?
01:22It's very likely, yes, because that's what coaches do.
01:26They don't throw their players under the bus.
01:28They want to keep confidence going.
01:29They want to talk about, hey, we did this right.
01:32We did that right.
01:33You know?
01:33I mean, that's just how coaches talk.
01:35I also found it interesting that in the post-game press conference after Sunday's game,
01:42Sean McDermott talked a lot.
01:44He talked about the run game, how good it was.
01:46He specifically mentioned Aaron Cromer as doing a really good job in the run game.
01:51And I think, is that a little, I'm wondering, is that a little nudge at, hey, run game, Aaron Cromer,
01:56who, by the way, I mean, Aaron Cromer is basically the run game coordinator, right?
01:59He does a lot with that, with Joe Brady and helping to call those plays and how that works.
02:04And then, is that a little nudge on, hey, Aaron Cromer, great job.
02:07You're doing that.
02:08But, Joe, we need more in the passing game part of that.
02:11You know what I mean?
02:11I think there's a, you could definitely have that thought that that happened there.
