12:53and was just a joy
12:56right from the start
12:57as a baby
12:57He was just easy
12:59He was contented
13:02He was happy
13:03and he was really chilled
13:05right from the offs
13:06He would just kick this ball
13:09with his left foot
13:10right from like 11 minutes up
13:12as soon as he could walk
13:13and control it
13:15and we knew then
13:17that he'd got a talent
13:18Cody's whole
13:19growing up
13:22upbringing
13:22was football
13:24football

13:25From like four years old
13:27he was playing football
13:28football matches
13:29football training
13:30all around the country really
13:32So he's so athletic
13:35really fast
13:37amazingly fast runner

14:25yeah he was just
14:27just an absolute joy
14:28yeah we really were

14:32No one was like Cody
14:34he's just a special
14:36person
14:37On the day that
14:47the family were going to see Cody
14:49I would have arrived
14:51about half an hour earlier
14:53to go into the mortuary
14:55speak to the staff
14:57and generally take a look
15:00at the victim
15:01but ultimately it'd be Tracy
15:02who would identify Cody
15:04I do find that
15:07families are very nervous
15:10before they come in
15:11and they view a loved one
15:13because you don't know
15:14what's going to happen
15:15I went to the hospital
15:18and they were there
15:19waiting for us
15:20at the hospital
15:21I spoke to Tracy
15:23and explained that Cody
15:25is in the next room
15:26explained that he will be
15:28under a blanket
15:29but that Cody
15:31looked at peace
15:32Without them
15:34doing that
15:35it would have been
15:40even more horrendous
15:42than what it was
15:43I remember them
15:44taking me down
15:45to the mortuary
15:47Cody was just lying there
15:52as we were sleeping
15:53like he did in his bed
15:56peacefully asleep
15:58and yeah
16:03it's the hardest thing ever
16:04that
16:05that you'll ever do
16:08as a mother
16:09to go and
16:11witness that
16:12it was really
16:16really emotional
16:17very very upsetting
16:19and it's upsetting
16:20for
16:20for us as a family
16:22liaison officer
16:23to see
16:24that the family
16:25you know
16:26are
16:26just an outpouring
16:27of emotion
16:28and seeing their loved one
16:29it's like this is all
16:31a bad dream
16:32but
16:33every day
16:35you realise
16:36it's not
16:36in fact a dream
16:37it's real life
16:38a few days before
16:40it was Christmas
16:42and we were happy
16:43and
16:44you know
16:45he was just going out
16:45for an afternoon event
16:47with his girlfriend
16:50and then
16:51the next time
16:51I see him
16:52he's
16:53lying on a slab
16:55in the mortuary
16:55the post-mortem
17:05was able
17:05to tell us
17:06that Cody
17:07had got
17:07two stab wounds
17:08a significant
17:09stab wound
17:11to his chest
17:12that had pierced
17:13his heart
17:13and that that
17:14was in fact
17:15the injury
17:16that had caused
17:16him significant
17:17blood loss
17:18and caused
17:19his death
17:19he had another
17:21small stab wound
17:22to his leg
17:23the forensic pathologist
17:24was also able
17:25to stay
17:25in their belief
17:26that the knife
17:27had been put in
17:28with some considerable
17:29force
17:30he'd gone in
17:31any other direction
17:32he'd have probably
17:33survived
17:33unfortunately
17:34because of the force
17:36and where he was
17:37stabbed
17:38you know
17:38it killed him
17:39virtually instantly
17:40the weapon
17:41that was used
17:42was what's called
17:44a combat knife
17:45about
17:46six inch
17:47in blade
17:48not a knife
17:49that anybody
17:49needs to have
17:50you know
17:50not a kitchen knife
17:51not a knife
17:52that you would use
17:53in your normal
17:53daily business
17:54unfortunately
17:56because the knife
17:57was left
17:58within Cody
17:59it was swamped
18:00with his blood
18:01and his DNA
18:02so the knife
18:03was not able
18:04to tell us
18:05anything
18:05in terms of
18:07who might be
18:07responsible
18:08in the crane
18:11nightclub
18:12I knew that
18:13if they had
18:13CCTV
18:14what CCTV
18:15they had
18:16would be
18:16absolutely crucial
18:17I spoke with
18:18the manager
18:19of the premises
18:19who explained
18:20yes
18:21there was
18:22actually
18:22very good CCTV
18:24soon as
18:26a CCTV
18:27coordinator
18:27came in
18:28in the early hours
18:29of the morning
18:29I would brief
18:30that coordinator
18:31so they could
18:32start to see
18:33Cody's movements
18:34throughout the evening
18:35trying to ascertain
18:36who might be
18:37responsible
18:38when do they
18:39come and go
18:40what do they
18:40do within the
18:41nightclub
18:42where do they
18:42go within the
18:43nightclub
18:44it was a very
18:44very complex
18:46and long
18:47and challenging
18:48CCTV
18:49trawl
18:50I would go
18:55and visit
18:55Tracy
18:56and tell
18:57them
18:57updates
18:58and that
18:59continued
19:00for
19:01months
19:02even if
19:02there wasn't
19:03any specific
19:04update
19:04just to
19:05telephone her
19:06just to say
19:06we're still
19:07here
19:07we're still
19:08investigating
19:09it
19:09there's a
19:10whole team
19:10and we're
19:11still
19:11we're not
19:11concentrating
19:12on anything

20:34people walking
20:35towards the
20:35exit came
20:36to a halt
20:36they pushed
20:37into a person
20:38who had stood

20:39and he just
20:41retaliated in
20:42such an
20:43aggressive
20:44demanding
20:45way to
20:47Cody
20:47that he was
20:48just really
20:49taken aback
20:50by it
