00:00I've got pregnant twice by using the calf ulcerin. We could have afforded to do IVF, however we chose not to.
00:06How much did it cost? It was absolutely free because you cannot charge for bodily fluids in the UK. It is illegal.
00:14Did the donors sign over their rights? Have you got anything in writing from them?
00:19No, and the reason we didn't ask is we did research beforehand and even if we had writing saying that they didn't want to be involved,
00:26it wouldn't stand in court. So if they were to take us to court, it would basically be a waste of our time.
00:32It is a huge decision, so make sure you're picking someone that you trust.
00:36With their second baby due late October, this unconventional birthing method has been the key ingredient to their happy family.
00:42But how do you make sure it's safe?
00:44How do you know that they haven't lied about their family history? And the truth is, you really don't.
00:49Unfortunately, it's just one of those things about trust.
00:52There's been horror stories in the past of dodgy donors and misplaced intentions.
00:57What makes men want to be a donor?
00:59How do men help? Like, what do they get out of it? And I guess the main reason...
01:03Obviously, you see horror stories. There are men that do it because they want the most children out of all the donors and stuff like that.
01:11But the two donors that we have picked both had really lovely reasons to why that they wanted to help.
01:17One person already had, like, their own family and, you know, which is really nice too and reassuring.
01:24Do you know any family history, STI, health check about the donor?
01:28Yes, so it is your responsibility to make sure that you get all the information that you need from the donor before you take any donations.
01:36We met for a coffee with both of the donors before we knew that he was the right one.
01:42Where did we find our donor?
01:43We used Facebook. There's literally groups.
01:46I know it's not the most glamorous, but that's me being honest.
01:49Are me and my wife both on the birth certificate? We are indeed because we got married before we conceived.
01:55I think you have to be married or in a civil partnership to be on the birth certificate.
01:59This is only if you do it outside of the clinic.
02:02Some parents of donor babies don't tell them about their parentage. Will they do the same?
02:07Are we going to tell our kids about donors? Of course. We're going to be honest from the get-go.
02:12We're never going to lie about the fact they're a donor-conceived child.
02:15And when they're 18, if they want extra information about those donors, we will give it to them.
02:21So they used a cowpaw syringe?
02:24The cowpaw syringe in question is this one here.
02:28IVF can cost up to $25,000. What have they done with the money they've saved?
02:33We could have afforded to do IVF, however, we chose not to.
02:37In that time, we've managed to buy our first home and do extra things for the children.
02:41By the time you watch this video, baby number two will have been born via C-section.
02:46And their wonderful family will be complete.
02:49We wish them all the best.
02:51At-home insemination kits are rising in popularity due to cheaper costs
02:54and many say the process gives them hope and independence on their parenting journey.
