00:00Spencer Strider earns Braves nomination for Roberto Clemente Award.
00:04The Atlanta Braves Spencer Strider has officially been named the Braves 2025 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award for his efforts in his community.
00:13This award is one of the most meaningful honors in all of Major League Baseball.
00:17And if you think it's just about baseball, think again.
00:21Strider, along with his wife Maggie, has turned personal compassion into real boots-on-the-ground action in Georgia,
00:27particularly with local foster care families, children's hospitals, and even a high school still reeling from tragedy.
00:34Last year, after a mass shooting rocked Appalachee High School, located just northeast of Atlanta,
00:40Strider didn't just send a tweet or wear a ribbon.
00:42He and Maggie personally served lunch to the entire faculty and staff.
00:46Then he went a step further, bringing the school's varsity and JV baseball teams out to Truist Park for on-field batting practice
00:53and giving them the chance to play on the Big League Diamond.
00:56The Striders launched Foster Family Fridays, in partnership with the Braves Foundation and Georgia Kids Belong, in 2024.
01:05Each week, a foster family enjoys a memorable day at the ballpark, featuring VIP experiences and meet-and-greets.
01:12Strider and his teammates, including fan favorites like Ozzie Albies, actively participate.
01:17During the offseason, he and Maggie volunteer with Georgia Kids Belong and visit children's hospitals weekly,
01:23offering support to young patients.
01:24This commitment persists, even as Strider recovers from an injury sustained in 2024.
01:31Despite that setback, Spencer Strider has shown what it truly means to be a leader off the field,
01:36something Appalachee head baseball coach Kyle Bailey recognized firsthand.
01:41While most people might be content with providing a helping hand in the immediate aftermath of our tragedy,
01:46Bailey told MLB.com,
01:48Spencer has continued to advocate for the Appalachee community.
01:52The Roberto Clemente Award, named after the legendary Pirates outfielder who died delivering humanitarian aid in 1972,
02:00honors players who embody Clemente's legacy of character, community service, and leadership.
02:05Every MLB team gets one nominee each season, and now it's up to the fans.
02:10Strider may have been sidelined part of this season, but his impact is louder than ever.
