00:00MLB veteran catcher announces sudden Braves departure.
00:04Braves fans, for once catching isn't the problem, it's the one spot Atlanta can check off,
00:10while pitching and left field need work.
00:13Drake Baldwin, the rookie who turned heads this year, is the kind of young talent that makes you sit up and think,
00:18yep, we're good for a while.
00:20The kid held his own, flashed some serious potential, and didn't shrink under the big league spotlight.
00:25And if that wasn't enough, you've got Sean Murphy, former All-Star, signed through 2028.
00:31Unless something wild happens, like a blockbuster trade that drops jaws at the winter meetings,
00:36this duo is locked in tight.
00:38Which brings us to Jason DeLay.
00:40You might remember him from his stint with the Pirates, breaking into the majors in 2022,
00:45and scrapping his way into 134 big league games.
00:49Solid backstop.
00:50No one's claiming he's Buster Posey, but DeLay showed he could hang, at least for a while.
00:56But baseball is a cruel business, and opportunity doesn't always knock twice.
01:00After being DFA'd by Pittsburgh in April, DeLay was scooped up by the Braves.
01:05But let's be honest, Atlanta didn't exactly roll out the welcome mat.
01:10He spent the season marooned in AAA, watching Baldwin rise and Murphy lock down innings like Fort Knox.
01:16By July, he was off the 40-man.
01:18By October, he was a free agent.
01:21Jason DeLay struggled this season, hitting just 200 with one home run in 68 games,
01:26and allowing 94 stolen bases, evidence his arm didn't deter runners.
01:31A former four-year starter at Vanderbilt and member of its 2014 College World Series championship team,
01:37the 30-year-old still has a slim chance to land with a team needing catching depth.
01:42For now, the Braves aren't concerned.
01:44Their catching lineup is secure, even if their postseason hopes fell short.
