00:00San Francisco mayor speaks with Trump after the president threatened to deploy federal agents, remove World Cup games from California.
00:08It appears that the World Cup games in San Francisco will go forward as planned.
00:13Last week, President Trump threatened to move World Cup games out of San Francisco and Los Angeles if he didn't believe the two cities were doing a good enough job of keeping people safe.
00:22If somebody is doing a bad job and if I feel there are unsafe conditions, I would call Gianni the head of FIFA and I would say, let's move it to another location, and he would do that, Trump said, referring to FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
00:37Gavin Newsom, he's got to get his act together. If he doesn't play ball, we're going to have to be very tough on them.
00:43Trump would later say he planned to recommend deploying federal agents in San Francisco to make the city safe ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
00:54I'm going to be strongly recommending at the request of government officials, which is always nice, that you start looking at San Francisco.
01:02I think we can make San Francisco one of our great cities 10 years ago, 15 years ago, and now it's a mess.
01:09On Thursday, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said he spoke with Trump and that the president has backed off his threats.
01:18Late last night, I received a phone call from the president of the United States.
01:22I told him the same thing I told our residents.
01:25San Francisco is on the rise.
01:28Visitors are coming back.
01:29Buildings are getting leased and purchased.
01:31And workers are coming back to the office.
01:33In that conversation, the president told me clearly that he was calling off any plans for a federal deployment in San Francisco.
01:41Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, reaffirmed that direction in our conversation this morning.
01:47My team will continue to monitor the situation closely, and our city remains prepared for any scenario.
01:53President Trump confirmed that he had a conversation with Lurie.
01:56Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, reaffirmed that direction in our conversation with Lurie.
