00:00China has signed an expanded version of a free trade agreement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations,
00:07known as ASEAN, in a bid to pitch itself as an alternative to protectionist policies of U.S. President Donald Trump.
00:14Chinese Premier Li Keong said after the meeting that boosting trade with his country could help overcome global economic instability.
00:21The deal, signed between Keong and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim,
00:26arrived on the last day of the annual ASEAN Summit, held in Kuala Lumpur this year.
00:32It aims to provide a more stable trading and economic climate for Asian countries in the alliance,
00:37which have been shaken by Trump's global tariffs.
00:40The agreement aims to make trade benefits more accessible, improve market entry for small players,
00:46streamline non-tariff procedures, and lower regulatory barriers.
00:49It comes as Washington and Beijing continue to clash over what Trump called an unfair trading relationship, favoring China.
00:58The two nations have threatened ludicrous tariffs on each other's imports, exceeding 200%,
01:03a move if implemented, is set to rattle global markets.
