00:00Ice nabs more than 1,000 people in single operation.
00:04Operation Midway Blitz, a crackdown targeting undocumented immigrants protected by Illinois'
00:09sanctuary policies, led to the arrest of more than 1,000 individuals, the Department of
00:15Homeland Security announced.
00:16Led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Border Patrol, the operation honored
00:21Katie Abraham, who was killed in a drunk driving accident in Illinois.
00:26The drunk driver, Julio Kukulbol, was later revealed to be an undocumented immigrant.
00:31The initiative aimed to remove the worst of the worst from Chicago and other areas across
00:35the state, according to DHS.
00:38Speaking about the operation, DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin revealed,
00:43During Operation Midway Blitz, our brave DHS law enforcement has made more than 1,000
00:48arrests across Illinois, including of child abusers, kidnappers, gang members, and armed
00:53robbers.
00:55One of those Ice took into custody was Rafael Alberto Tolentino Martinez, an illegal immigrant
01:04from Mexico convicted of aggravated domestic battery against a three-year-old.
01:09Another was Pedro Avendano Andres, also from Mexico, who had previously been arrested for
01:14domestic battery, aggravated battery, and endangering a child, according to a DHS press release.
01:20Before the announcement, federal agents arrested more than a dozen protesters outside an ice-processing
01:25center in Broadview, Illinois.
01:27DHS Secretary Kristi Noem also revealed that she and her staff were refused entry to a government
01:32building in Broadview when they stopped to use the restroom.
