00:03A sudden, powerful blizzard struck Everest's Tibetan slopes during China's National Day,

00:09trapping nearly 1,000 people without warning.

00:13Trekkers and local workers were caught off guard on high-altitude trails popular during the annual eight-day holiday.

00:19So far, at least 350 people have been rescued, with hundreds more expected to be brought down in the coming days.

00:25Others remain stranded in high-altitude camps amid deep snow, cold temperatures, and blocked trails.

00:32The hardest-hit area was Karma Valley, near Everest's eastern Kangsheng Face, a less-traveled but growing destination.

00:41At elevations above 13,700 feet, the storm posed extreme danger.

00:47Officials report,

00:48The blizzard began Friday with heavy snow and freezing rain, continuing into Saturday, closing roads and trekking paths,

00:55leaving hikers with limited shelter and supplies.

00:58Freezing rain worsened conditions across the region.

01:01According to CCTV, rescue teams and hundreds of villagers evacuated hikers to Kudang Township for shelter and medical aid.

01:07Despite severe weather and low visibility, the Tibet Blue Sky Rescue Team reached several hundred people,

01:14some suffering hypothermia amid collapsed tents and wet sleeping bags.

01:19Trekkers Chen Geshuang, who reached safety with 17 others, said conditions were extremely wet and cold,

01:25with hypothermia a serious risk, noting that the guide had never seen such sudden weather in October.

01:30Officials have suspended access to the Everest Scenic Area, and paused ticket sales as crews clear the roads.

01:38The number of people still stranded and their conditions remain unclear.

01:42China's National Day holiday typically draws thousands to Tibet and Nepal,

01:46but an unusually severe early October storm surprised even veteran guides.

01:50In Nepal, the same storm caused landslides and flash floods, killing at least 47 people,

01:57including 35 in the eastern Ilam district near the Indian border, with others missing and homes destroyed.

02:03Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with the next 48 hours considered critical.

02:09The extreme weather has raised concerns about changing climate patterns during a normally safe trekking season.
