00:00Lorde says she doesn't know if she's ever really felt like a woman in candid confession.
00:06Lorde is opening up about self-discovery like never before.
00:10In a preview of her Tuesday, September 30th chat on Take 5 with Zan Rowe, the singer,
00:15who shot to fame at just 16 with her 2013 hit Royals,
00:19admitted she didn't fully grasp the weight of her early success.
00:23I don't totally understand that level of belief in myself, but I think you need that.
00:27That's the thing about being a teenager.
00:30You just sort of do have this unchecked confidence, she shared.
00:33Now, 12 years later, Lorde is reflecting on how much has changed, both personally and professionally.
00:40I sit before you a very different woman to the one I was before, she told Rowe.
00:45I don't know if I'd ever really felt like a woman.
00:48She shared that her latest album, Virgin, released on June 27th,
00:52came from letting go of the things that no longer served her
00:54and exploring deeper questions about identity and womanhood.
00:57One of the most powerful moments came when she talked about Girl So Confusing,
01:02a track written by her friend Charlie XCX that questioned their friendship.
01:07The lyrics read,
01:07Charlie later broke down the meaning during an interview with BBC Radio 1.
01:23The song is about being confused with where you stand with another woman.
01:28And it's not about attacking their personality or anything about that other person.
01:32And I think the thing is, being a woman is very complex.
01:36Lorde's new album Virgin dropped on June 27th.
01:39Reflecting on the process, she shared,
01:41She reached out for me and held on.
01:43It felt like a crossroads moment where I had to decide the kind of woman I wanted to be.
01:47For her, the answer came naturally.
01:50I realized the only way this song could be finished was with my voice.
