00:09:47Nomaine.
00:10:13I want you to come back to your own kind.
00:10:27I beg you to.
00:10:30Is that where you are or is it the guest?
00:10:34Hello.
00:10:43Bobby! Bobby! Bobby! Hey, Bobby! What did you do? Huh?
00:10:53What did you do? Did you take these? Answer me!
00:10:55No!
00:10:56Is that the truth?
00:10:57I couldn't do it, okay? Get off of me!
00:11:01I wanted to, but I couldn't.
00:11:09What's wrong with you?
00:11:11You know why I couldn't do it?
00:11:15Because it's a sin.
00:11:19Bobby, what are you talking about?
00:11:23I didn't want to go to hell, but I am.
00:11:27Because this is worse.
00:11:29Bobby, you're scaring me. What's going on?
00:11:33You'd all hate me. I know it. I know that if you guys knew the truth, you'd hate me.
00:11:39No. Whatever it is, we'll tell Mom.
00:11:42No!
00:11:43No. Mom wouldn't understand, okay? She can't know.
00:11:46Then you have to tell me right now.
00:11:53I'm not like you, Ed.
00:11:55So what?
00:11:56I keep trying.
00:11:58I keep telling myself that one day I'm gonna wake up and it's gonna be different, but it's not.
00:12:02I don't dream about girls like you do. I dream about guys.
00:12:16You're gay?
00:12:17See? You even say it like you hate me.
00:12:20Give me a break.
00:12:21I don't know what to do!
00:12:23Well, tell Mom and Dad.
00:12:25No!
00:12:26No!
00:12:27They can help, Bobby.
00:12:28They always want us to come to them.
00:12:29They can help.
00:12:30I can't, okay?
00:12:32And you're not gonna say anything either.
00:12:35Promise me.
00:12:37Promise me you're not gonna say anything.
00:12:43Ed, promise.
00:12:44Okay.
00:12:45I promise.
00:12:47Mom, if there was something wrong with one of your kids, you always said that we should come to you, right?
00:12:57What'd you do?
00:12:59It's not me. It's Bobby.
00:13:01What is it?
00:13:05I didn't want to tell you, but he was in such bad shape, I'm really worried about him.
00:13:10He thinks he might be homosexual.
00:13:16He's not.
00:13:21He didn't want me to tell you. He was gonna take a bunch of aspirin.
00:13:26Okay? And, you know, he trusted me. You can't go too hard on him.
00:13:29Okay. Okay. Good. It's good.
00:13:31I'm glad you told me.
00:13:33There's no doubt in my mind that God can handle this.
00:13:36He'll help us.
00:13:38He'll heal Bobby.
00:13:40In order for all of us to be together in the kingdom of heaven, we cannot stray.
00:13:45We can't sin like that. And that is a terrible sin.
00:13:48The Bible calls it an abomination.
00:13:50In Leviticus, if a man lies with another man, they shall both be put to death.
00:13:54I will not risk my family not being together in the next life.
00:13:58Mary, could we please worry about this life before we worry about the next life?
00:14:01Hey, what's going on?
00:14:04Isn't there a problem you need to tell us about?
00:14:08No.
00:14:09Bobby, if there is something wrong, you need to share it with your family.
00:14:14How could you?
00:14:16Bobby, I'm gonna kill you!
00:14:18No, no!
00:14:19Shut up!
00:14:20Shut up!
00:14:21Shut up!
00:14:22I was worried about you!
00:14:23I trusted you!
00:14:24Shut up now!
00:14:25What was I supposed to do?
00:14:26Go find some homework.
00:14:27Okay?
00:14:30Bobby, we're your family.
00:14:31We can get through this.
00:14:32I know if we trust in God, we can get through this.
00:14:35It's curable with his help.
00:14:37I'm sorry.
00:14:38I can't help it.
00:14:39I don't even want it, Mom.
00:14:41What do I do?
00:14:42Bobby, you're not gay.
00:14:44You probably just, you haven't met a girl that you're really attracted to.
00:14:50Please.
00:14:51Mom, please don't tell anyone.
00:14:53Please.
00:14:54Okay.
00:14:55Mom, please don't tell anyone.
00:14:56It's gonna be alright.
00:14:57Okay.
00:14:58It's gonna be fine.
00:14:59Shh.
00:15:07I was worried about you.
00:15:09What was I supposed to do?
00:15:11I'm out of here.
00:15:17Thank you again for joining us.
00:15:19I'm Pastor Raymond Siff.
00:15:21We'll take another call.
00:15:22This is from Melissa in Concord.
00:15:24Thank you, Reverend.
00:15:25I'm a little nervous.
00:15:26My sister made a terrible mistake.
00:15:29She sinned and then died in a tragic car accident.
00:15:32I advise you to live according to your new life in the Holy Spirit.
00:15:36Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves.
00:15:41When the Holy Spirit controls your life,
00:15:44He will produce love, joy, kindness, goodness, and self-control.
00:15:50Does everyone have to know?
00:15:51We're your family.
00:15:53We love you.
00:15:55Mom, have you seen my curling iron?
00:16:15Really?
00:16:16We still love you, Bobby.
00:16:17Oui, merci. J'ai besoin d'une privacité ?
00:16:27Hi, Mary !
00:16:38Si un homme qui veut renouer la violence,
00:16:42Sous-titrage Société Radio-Canada
00:17:12Hello? Is that the phone?
00:17:22That was a joke.
00:17:28So you think you're homosexual?
00:17:34Bobby, how many girls have you been with?
00:17:37I don't know. Two?
00:17:40Had sexual relations with?
00:17:42I don't know.
00:17:45Then how do you know for sure?
00:17:49I just have these feelings, you know?
00:17:53I don't mean you know. I mean...
00:17:55I have these feelings.
00:18:01Do you want to be homosexual?
00:18:03I just want to be close with my family again. I feel like I slipped up and now I can't get back.
00:18:15I'm not going to be able to help you if you don't answer my questions.
00:18:20No, I don't want to be this way.
00:18:26I'm going to talk with your mother alone for a minute, okay?
00:18:29Okay?
00:18:29She wants to talk to you.
00:18:35Okay.
00:18:41He can be cured, right?
00:18:42He has to be willing to really put the work in.
00:18:49Oh, he is. I know he is.
00:18:51And I think it would be good, it would be important to have your husband come join this in therapy.
00:18:55All right.
00:18:58How'd it go?
00:19:00She said we should spend some more time together.
00:19:04Maybe the two of you could spend some quality time together.
00:19:09Yeah, sure.
00:19:14That's all she said for 60 bucks an hour.
00:19:16She also wants the three of us to go to a few sessions together.
00:19:19Well, so it's our fault?
00:19:21I don't know about all that. It's fine if he goes.
00:19:23Bob, I want you to be a part of this. I can't do it alone, okay?
00:19:27I read that homosexuals are going to be a part of this.
00:19:31I can't do it alone, okay? I read that homosexuals have sex in public bathrooms and that they recruit children.
00:19:39What are you saying?
00:19:41Do you think Bobby was recruited?
00:19:43Come on, Mary. You're going overboard.
00:19:45You've got to do something about this. I won't lose him.
00:19:53Dear Lord, we ask that you keep Bobby safe from temptation.
00:19:56Please help him return to a pure heart.
00:19:58You think this will heal me?
00:20:00You have to trust that God will heal you and that Satan will try to discourage you.
00:20:06Do you trust in God?
00:20:08Yeah.
00:20:10Phil let me go to sleep.
00:20:17When temptation is all around you, faith is not enough.
00:20:21It requires discipline. Not just mental, but physical.
00:20:25Who would like to share their story?
00:20:30I used to be so unhappy.
00:20:32I stayed out all night. I talked back to my mother.
00:20:35Since coming here and accepting Jesus as my savior, I've changed.
00:20:40My mom and I are like best friends now.
00:20:42That's great, Harry.
00:20:43The power of prayer and hard work. Bobby, what about you? How are you coming along?
00:20:53Good.
00:20:55Well, you feel better, don't you? I can see it in your eyes.
00:20:58Your hard work has paid off, hasn't it?
00:21:00Yeah.
00:21:01Yeah.
00:21:03Let's sing, shall we?
00:21:05Amazing grace, how sweet the sound that saved the rest like me.
00:21:21Nothing I do seems to make a difference.
00:21:41I try and act like them, but it feels impossible.
00:21:46It's an awful feeling to believe you could be headed straight for the fires of hell.
00:21:49Even worse is everyone telling you how simple the solution is.
00:21:54They don't know what it is to be in my shoes.
00:21:57I'm running. I'm not eating junk food.
00:22:00Good. Good.
00:22:02Yeah, it's good, but...
00:22:04I don't know the point of it.
00:22:06I mean, my face is cleared up, but everything else feels a thing.
00:22:09Well, you have to stick with it.
00:22:11Do you like the people in your group?
00:22:13They're okay.
00:22:15This one girl, she...
00:22:16You know, I hope you're taking this seriously.
00:22:17I mean it. I hope you are trying with all your might.
00:22:21I cannot lose you to this.
00:22:23You won't.
00:22:28Have faith.
00:22:29Well, this is gonna be fun.
00:22:33When was the last time all the Griffith men went hiking together?
00:22:39Uh...
00:22:41Oh.
00:22:42Oh!
00:22:56So, how's school?
00:22:58Good.
00:23:01Have you thought about your plans?
00:23:04Well, college.
00:23:06No, I mean, you know, life plans.
00:23:09Well, I'm still thinking of becoming a writer.
00:23:12Listen, Bobby, you've always had a strong imagination, and we've always been to write with that.
00:23:15But you're getting to the age where you're gonna have to get practical.
00:23:19Hype dreams, they're great when you're young, but they don't really have a...
00:23:24They don't really have a place in the real world.
00:23:26Hmm?
00:23:30Yeah.
00:23:31Do you hear what I'm saying, Ian?
00:23:33Yeah.
00:23:34All right, all right. Let's go. Let's move.
00:23:35All right.
00:23:44How'd it go?
00:23:47I'm healed.
00:23:48It was fine.
00:23:53Did you two talk?
00:23:56Yeah, we talked.
00:23:58Well, what'd you talk about?
00:24:01Mary was fine.
00:24:03No, but this is important. This could make him or break him.
00:24:07I did the best I could. Is that all right with you?
00:24:09A lot of times, confusion like Bobby's can be caused by a distant father or an overbearing mother.
00:24:24Well, I had both, and I'm fine.
00:24:27Yeah.
00:24:29Well, you need to participate in this.
00:24:33I'm right here, Mary. I'm in the room.
00:24:34You know?
00:24:37I think I've been a very good father.
00:24:40Maybe you don't know this, but Bobby, I mean, he was never into the stuff that his brother or other boys were into him.
00:24:46You know, he's just not interested.
00:24:48Mm-hmm.
00:24:49So I'm not gonna force him. You know?
00:24:55Hi, Bobby. I'm Sheila.
00:25:02Mom, who's that?
00:25:05Sheila is a student in my Sunday school class.
00:25:09You got me a date?
00:25:11You need to go out with lots of girls. Your dad thinks so, too.
00:25:14Can I at least pick my own?
00:25:19Do that thing with your arm.
00:25:21Have fun.
00:25:23You look nifty.
00:25:25Do you want a brownie for energy? Take them out. No.
00:25:27Hello.
00:25:32Hello. Who's this?
00:25:34This is my brother, Ed. Hi.
00:25:35Hi, I'm Sheila.
00:25:36Nice to meet you.
00:25:37Nice to meet you, too.
00:25:38Hi. Oh, hi.
00:25:39Hi.
00:25:40You wanna come and meet some of my friends?
00:25:41Yeah.
00:25:47So, are you ever gonna talk to me again?
00:25:50Look at where it got me.
00:25:54What if she wants me to kiss her goodnight?
00:25:55Until you're gay.
00:25:56Ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:26:05Oh, my God!
00:26:08Oh, my God!
00:26:40Did you tell your friends?
00:26:43Bobby, those aren't my friends.
00:26:44You tell everyone I'm gay?
00:26:46I haven't told anyone. Stop being so paranoid.
00:26:48You all hate me for it.
00:26:49I know you don't think I see it, but I do.
00:26:53I gotta go.
00:26:54Bobby.
00:27:03It's three in the morning.
00:27:07Sorry, I lost track of time.
00:27:09Well, where were you?
00:27:10Bobby, you weren't with homosexuals, were you?
00:27:20This is not you.
00:27:23This is temptation working its ways.
00:27:25You have to pray harder if you're going to get well.
00:27:30Good night, Mom.
00:27:33Pray for forgiveness right away.
00:27:35Good night, girls, but I gotta go.
00:27:58Okay.
00:27:59Here's Bobby.
00:28:01Hey.
00:28:04Nice job.
00:28:05She had work, so she asked me to pick you up.
00:28:09You're welcome.
00:28:09What's with you?
00:28:12What?
00:28:13You think I didn't notice that?
00:28:14You didn't want your friends to see me.
00:28:15Some people wouldn't understand.
00:28:17And now it's so obvious.
00:28:18What did you tell them?
00:28:20Well, look at what you're wearing.
00:28:22And I've told you time after time not to do that thing with your arm.
00:28:27It makes you look like a girl, and you continue to do it.
00:28:30I've always dressed this way.
00:28:31No, you haven't.
00:28:32It's gotten worse.
00:28:34Why are you doing this?
00:28:35I'm trying to help you.
00:28:36No, you're not.
00:28:37You're trying to help you.
00:28:39It's not about me.
00:28:40It's about what people think about you.
00:28:41Imagine if they thought your son was some big queer.
00:28:44What's wrong with you?
00:28:45Stop that.
00:28:47Nice, Mom.
00:28:48Great.
00:28:50Let's go home.
00:28:51I'm walking.
00:28:52No.
00:28:53Where are you going?
00:28:54Come on.
00:29:14let's go home.
00:29:16I've got the jacket.
00:29:19Hey, can I buy a...
00:29:33I'll check this stuff out.
00:29:34Oh!
00:29:37Not getting here.
00:29:38Not getting here.
00:29:39What do we do?
00:29:40It's a good thing, folks.
00:29:42It's a good thing.
00:32:37No matter what this sin
00:32:38Hey, that's good
00:32:40I'm going to start my own Bible
00:32:41Think about coming to Portland?
00:32:55Hi, Mrs. Griffith
00:32:57Is Bobby here?
00:33:01Bobby
00:33:01You know, it's enough you go God knows where at night
00:33:04But now you're bringing these deviants into my house
00:33:07It's my house too
00:33:08And they're my friends
00:33:10Is that what that boy is?
00:33:12Is it a sin to have friends now too, Mom?
00:33:14We have a good time, okay?
00:33:15We go to the Rocky Horror together
00:33:17Does that mean we're all going to get struck down?
00:33:18You're gay, aren't they?
00:33:20I thought you were getting better
00:33:22When?
00:33:23When I was miserable?
00:33:24That looked like I was getting better?
00:33:26You're right, Mom
00:33:26I'm doomed just to roast in hell
00:33:28Don't say that
00:33:29Well, that's what your Bible says
00:33:30The Bible also says a person can change
00:33:32I tried, Mom
00:33:33I can't
00:33:34Why do you keep choosing this?
00:33:37Why would I choose this?
00:33:39Why would I choose to have my entire family hate me?
00:33:41No, we love you
00:33:41Can't you see that's why we're doing this?
00:33:44Really, Mom?
00:33:44This is what love feels like?
00:33:51Have fun in Portland
00:33:53Here's a new shirt for your vacation
00:33:56I hope you like it
00:33:58Promise me you'll write and call all the time

00:34:05Drive carefully
00:34:09Don't worry, man
00:34:10You'll call me when you get to Portland

00:35:00It is my goal to achieve
00:35:03A sense of pride
00:35:04And worth as a human being

00:41:27Vous pensez qu'elle vous a changé Bobby?
00:41:33She meant it.
00:41:37She meant that.
00:41:42I really want you to be happy.
00:41:46And I'm sure that guy's really nice.
00:41:50No matter what, she'll never accept it.
00:41:54It's gonna be a lonely life because he will never be welcome here.
00:41:58And for Christmas, Thanksgiving, anything.
00:42:03Don't worry about mom too much.
00:42:12She'll come around.
00:42:14You're not gonna hold my breath.
00:42:18Here you come.
00:42:21Your parachute pants.
00:42:26Thanks.
00:42:30I'll send you my first novel when I write it.
00:42:32Bye, Bucktooth.
00:42:39Take care, okay?
00:42:42Drive safe.
00:42:43Bye.

00:49:33Qu'est-ce qu'il y a de là?
00:49:34Non.
00:49:36Qu'est-ce qu'il y a de là?
00:49:37Jeanne, tu viens d'être là là!
00:49:38DAD!
00:49:41DADDY!
00:49:43Qu'est-ce qu'il y a de là?
00:49:45Hello.
00:49:48Oh, hi. Hi, Jeannette.
00:49:49Mary, you're being called out front and is set to break your purse.
00:49:56Probably one of the kids needs money again.
00:49:58Get a day off.
00:49:59I need a break anyway.
00:50:01Bye.
00:50:19What is that?
00:50:28I heard Bobby kill himself.
00:50:34He jumped off a bridge.
00:50:36He's gone.
00:50:44Help me!
00:50:45Help me!
00:50:52My son is dead!
00:50:53Let me out!
00:50:55Let me out!
00:50:57My son is dead!
00:50:58Let me out!
00:51:10Hey, Joy, slow down.
00:51:11What's-what's wrong?
00:51:12mental fatigue.
00:51:13Was going make humans go away?
00:51:14Yeah.
00:51:15Fuck you.
00:51:30Hey, Victor.
00:51:30いた
00:51:37erte
00:52:39You know, Bobby was only 20 years old.
00:52:42We'll never know who he could have been or what he could have accomplished.
00:52:46Bobby was a good young man, but he was lost.
00:52:50By giving in to temptation, he strayed.
00:52:55Then, disillusioned, he chose to end his life.
00:53:00And we know to condemn the sin, not the sinner.
00:53:06It was this sin that Bobby succumbed to.
00:53:10It led to his unhappiness, and it led him to take his own life.
00:53:16As goodness begets goodness, so does sin beget sin.
00:53:24They're okay with this.
00:53:25You're running low.
00:53:55Mom, do you think Bobby got salvation?
00:53:59I don't know.
00:54:00Suicide is a sin.
00:54:02But maybe God knew that Bobby wasn't in his right mind.
00:54:06I mean, why would God allow Bobby to go to hell if it was in his power to cure him?
00:54:10I don't know, Mirky.
00:54:13Put yourself together.
00:54:15People are uncomfortable enough.
00:54:17Thanks for coming home.
00:54:27I'm sorry for your loss.
00:54:28I'm so sorry for your loss.
00:54:30Yes.
00:54:30Mrs. Griffith.
00:54:38Mr. Griffith.
00:54:40I'm David.
00:54:42I was a friend of Bobby's.
00:54:44I wanted to offer my condolences.
00:55:05He was an amazing young man.
00:55:07I'm so sorry.
00:55:16I'm so sorry.
00:55:16I wanted to say I'm so sorry.
00:55:25I'm so sorry.
00:55:26Hey, lady.
00:55:26Come on, I'm so sorry.
00:55:26Come on, let me see you.
00:55:27Come on.
00:55:28Come on.
00:55:34Come on.
00:55:34Come on.
00:55:36Come on, Mary.
00:56:07I know you and Uncle Bob meant well, but that sermon...
00:56:10Bobby knew the repercussions of a homosexual lifestyle.
00:56:13Bobby was good and decent and kind.
00:56:16Someone who didn't even know Bobby stood up there and condemned him, and you let him.
00:56:22Bobby did everything he could to make himself acceptable to you.
00:56:24He was so good and bright and funny.
00:56:27He should be praised.
00:56:30I'm sorry you can't see it that way.
00:56:33Maybe you should go.
00:56:36Fine.
00:56:37I left Bobby's things in his room.
00:56:39I left Bobby's things in his room.
00:57:07Bobby.

01:00:56C'est pas de travail.
01:01:02Hey.
01:01:07You want to get out of here and maybe go for a beer?
01:01:11Yeah.
01:01:18Did he even think about what it would do to us?
01:01:21I mean, he could have called or something, but you know, it just screw us, right?
01:01:29Yeah.
01:01:30And nothing, no, no goodbye, no note, nothing.
01:01:38I'm sorry.
01:01:41I'm sorry.
01:01:44Are you happy now?
01:01:46I'm sorry, Bobby!
01:01:48Are you happy now?
01:01:50Yeah.
01:01:54It's not your fault.
01:01:59Okay.
01:02:10There must be other Bobbies out there.
01:02:12Other young gay people who may be thinking of taking their lives.
01:02:18Does the church reach out to them?
01:02:23There are other churches that do that.
01:02:26Reverend Joseph asked us to tell you how sorry he is for your loss.
01:02:32We could come back in a couple of weeks and check in on your family.
01:02:35You don't understand.
01:02:36I...
01:02:41I don't know what to do.
01:02:44I need to make peace with this and I can't.
01:02:49The Lord says the impure will be thrown into the lake of fire.
01:02:53Bobby sinned, but he was pure of heart.
01:03:00He'd never knowingly hurt anyone.
01:03:05Is that enough?
01:03:06Is it?
01:03:20Dear God, my relationship to you leaves something to be desired.
01:03:25I have never asked of you, only given as I was told.
01:03:29Your Holy Spirit has taught me so much.
01:03:33But now there's more I need to know.
01:03:43Hey.
01:03:49I can't.
01:03:53Okay.
01:03:54I think I'm gonna sleep in the living room.
01:04:24But I know that there's much more than I was able to play.
01:04:25I know.
01:04:31The family.
01:04:32Do you know?
01:04:34That is so interesting.
01:04:36Don't read.
01:04:37The family.
01:04:39I know.
01:04:41Do you make this?
01:04:42Yeah.
01:04:44You're right.
01:04:45My grandmother.
01:04:47Do you read?
01:04:49Yes.
01:04:50No.
01:04:52Reverend, Mary Griffith.
01:04:56Nice to have you with us, Mary.
01:04:58The Bible.
01:04:59It says that homosexuality is a sin punishable by death.
01:05:03Do you believe that?
01:05:04There are other interpretations of the Bible, Mrs. Griffith.
01:05:07My son was gay, and he killed himself.
01:05:12Is there another interpretation of that?
01:05:17I'm sorry.
01:05:22What was his name?
01:05:26Bobby.
01:05:28Bobby Griffith.
01:05:32I saw him here a couple of times.
01:05:34My Bobby.
01:05:36He always sat way in the back.
01:05:39Then he stopped coming.
01:05:41I am so sorry.
01:05:43You must be.
01:05:44I need answers.
01:05:46I need to know where he is.
01:05:49Is homosexuality an unforgivable sin?
01:05:52Leviticus 18.22 says,
01:05:55If a man lies with another man, it is an abomination.
01:05:58An abomination in that time didn't mean sin.
01:06:01It meant unclean.
01:06:03Leviticus also goes on to, say,
01:06:05eating shellfish is an abomination, or mixing fabrics.
01:06:08Leviticus 20.13,
01:06:10If a man lies with another man, they both shall be put to death.
01:06:13And then he says the same thing about an adulterer or a child that disobeys their parents.
01:06:19And we certainly don't interpret that scripture literally.
01:06:22In Deuteronomy 22,
01:06:24If a woman is not a virgin on her wedding day, she shall be taken to her father's house and stoned to death.
01:06:29So what do you tell people who come here, gay people, that homosexuality is okay?
01:06:38That it is permissible in God's eyes?
01:06:41I tell them what I believe to be the truth, that God loves them as they are.
01:06:45God's vengeance is great.
01:06:48So is his compassion.
01:06:49You shouldn't teach them that homosexuality is okay.
01:06:53That's not what the Bible says.
01:06:55It just confuses them more.
01:06:57Mrs. Griffith, if you would like to come back during the week and talk,
01:07:01my door is open, but not to be blamed.
01:07:04Okay?
01:07:04Mrs. Griffith, if you would like to come back during the week and talk to her father's house,
01:07:34Well, I think we've got a pretty good one.
01:07:45It's nice and full.
01:07:48A couple of bald spots, kind of like your dear old dad.
01:07:50Or grandma.
01:07:55Yeah.
01:07:57Mom, can we hang this one on the tree?
01:08:01We should.
01:08:01I remember when he made this second grade.
01:08:08Mrs. Tom's class, I think.
01:08:11He was so proud of himself.
01:08:15Where do you want to put it?
01:08:17Um, up high.
01:08:19So he can look out.
01:08:28Hey, they work.
01:08:29I'm gonna go check on the cookies.
01:08:35I'm gonna go check on the cookies.
01:12:09Maybe...
01:18:14Comment Dieu forgive me ?
01:18:18Comment Dieu forgive me ?
01:18:20God has already done the forgiving.
01:18:22You have to forgive yourself.
01:18:24Oh...
01:18:25I'm so sorry.
01:18:27I'm so sorry.
01:18:31I'm so sorry.
01:18:33I'm so sorry.
01:18:34I'm so sorry.
01:18:35I'm so sorry.
01:18:36I'm so sorry.
01:18:37I'm so sorry.
01:18:38I'm sorry.
01:18:43Dear God, give us something we can live with and pass on to others whose lives will never be the same because of a loved one's death.
01:18:50I did not decide on brown eyes for myself and I now realize that Bobby did not decide to be gay.
01:18:58If you say in your word that it is evil and wicked to be born with no arms,
01:19:04and a child is born with no arms, what is that child to think?
01:19:10I hope she's happy.
01:19:16Our first order of business is a proposal for a gay freedom day in Walnut Creek.
01:19:22Attention please, we have a select group to debate the issue.
01:19:26I don't see her.
01:19:28For one day, for one day people can celebrate their difference rather than feel shame.
01:19:36There are so many other people who need our time and our attention.
01:19:44Why are we wasting it on this?
01:19:46Alright, alright, let's have some order here please.
01:19:49They spit in the face of decency and morality.
01:19:54We cannot allow the fabric of our society to be torn apart.
01:20:00Right?
01:20:06I tried to run for the Human Relations Commission.
01:20:10They picked that limp-wristed Witzel instead.
01:20:13I sent them a letter.
01:20:15I said we sing hymns at our church.
01:20:17What do you do with the hymns at your church?
01:20:19So unless anyone else has anything else to add, we'll adjourn to make our decision.
01:20:24Mary?
01:20:26Hey, Dad!
01:20:28Dad, get in here!
01:20:30Dad, hurry up! Mom's on TV!
01:20:33Homosexuality is a sin.
01:20:37Homosexuals are doomed to spend eternity in hell.
01:20:41If they wanted to change, they could be healed of their evil ways.
01:20:46If they would turn away from temptation, they could be normal again.
01:20:51If only they would try and try harder if it doesn't work.
01:20:56These are all the things I said to my son Bobby when I found out he was gay.
01:21:01When he told me he was homosexual, my world fell apart.
01:21:05I did everything I could to cure him of his sickness.
01:21:10Eight months ago, my son jumped off a bridge and killed himself.
01:21:15I deeply regret my lack of knowledge about gay and lesbian people.
01:21:20I see that everything I was taught and told was bigotry and dehumanizing slander.
01:21:26If I had investigated beyond what I was told, if I had just listened to my son when he poured his heart out to me, I would not be standing here today with you filled with regret.
01:21:42I believe that God was pleased with Bobby's kind and loving spirit.
01:21:48In God's eyes, kindness and love are what it's all about.
01:21:52I didn't know that each time I echoed eternal damnation for gay people, each time I referred to Bobby as sick and perverted and a danger to our children,
01:22:03his self-esteem, his sense of worth were being destroyed.
01:22:10And finally, his spirit broke beyond repair.
01:22:16It was not God's will that Bobby climbed over the side of a freeway overpass and jumped directly into the path of an 18-wheel truck which killed him instantly.
01:22:30Bobby's death was the direct result of his parents' ignorance and fear of the word gay.
01:22:39He wanted to be a writer.
01:22:43His hopes and dreams should not have been taken from him, but they were.
01:22:49There are children, like Bobby, sitting in your congregations.
01:22:56Unknown to you, they will be listening as you echo Amen.
01:23:04And that will soon silence their prayers.
01:23:07Their prayers to God for understanding and acceptance and for your love.
01:23:16But your hatred and fear and ignorance of the word gay will silence those prayers.
01:23:23So, before you echo Amen in your home and place of worship, think, think and remember, a child is listening.
01:23:40You're welcome.
01:23:41You're welcome.
01:23:42You're welcome.
01:23:43You're welcome, Mom.
01:23:52You should be good.
01:24:00We lost.
01:25:32To all the Bobbies and Janes out there, I say these words to you as I would my own precious children.
01:25:40Please don't give up hope on life, or yourselves.
01:25:44You're very special to me, and I'm working very hard to make this life a better and safer place for you to live in.
01:25:51Promise me you'll keep trying.
01:25:54Bobby gave up on love.
01:25:55I hope you won't.
01:25:58You were always in my thoughts.
01:26:02My name is Bobby Griffith.
01:26:05I write this in hopes that one day, many years from now,
01:26:08I will be able to go back and remember what my life was like when I was a young and confused adolescent,
01:26:15desperately trying to understand myself and the world I live in.
01:26:19Another reason I write this is so long after I die,
01:26:23others may have a chance to read about me
01:26:25and see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:29And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:29And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:30And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:31And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:32And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:33And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:34And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:35And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:36And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:37And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:38And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:39And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:40And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:41And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:42And see what my life as a young person was like.
01:26:43And see what my life as a young person was like.
