A Putra Heights resident whose home was damaged in the gas explosion nearly seven months ago
00:05
says his insurance claim was delayed after his insurer took a position,
00:10
contradicting the one announced by the General Insurance Association of Malaysia.
00:16
Francisco, vice chairman of the Putra Harmony Residents Association,
00:20
said that while his claim was finally approved, the payout was delayed due to added conditions.
00:25
He said the company withheld 20% of the payout pending proof of repairs through photos and invoices
00:31
and required the work to be completed within two months of receiving the initial 80% of the approved claim,
00:38
which went against PIAM's call for insurers to settle claims swiftly without unnecessary conditions.
00:44
Last Thursday, FMT contacted the insurer to check the status of Coe's claim
00:49
and while it initially responded that the matter was under review,
00:52
a subsequent message later that day confirmed that the case has been resolved.
00:57
Coe said he was speaking out to create awareness among other affected insured persons
01:02
who were facing challenges in securing their compensation,
01:05
describing the delays as unfair,
01:08
noting that some insurers appeared to hold back payments
01:10
because the government was helping with certain repair works.
01:14
On April 1st, a gas pipeline exploded in Putra Heights,
01:18
leaving about 150 people hospitalised and displacing more than 400 families,
01:23
though no deaths were reported.
