Scotland is home to some of the largest wild landscapes in Western Europe, and it is the scenery that sets the pace of the journey. The medieval character imposed by ancient castles alternates with the modernist atmosphere of certain cities. The land of kilts and lochs changes its face with the seasons: the turquoise blue of the seas in summer, the white of snow in winter, the red and gold of forests in autumn, and the lush green of the mountains in spring. Scottish wrestling, a medieval martial tradition from the north, was very popular between the 18th and 19th centuries. The first wrestler to touch the ground with any part of the body other than the feet loses. This warriors’ game, also practiced by some Vikings, takes us back in time to the era of lords and standing stones.
