is that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will be probing Tesla over the
00:04
fantastic story with the autos team on Tesla car doors, the Model Y to be specific, not opening if
00:11
there's a power outage. What would this mean for Tesla? And what do you make of the fact there
00:15
hasn't been much of a share price reaction off the back of that probe? Yeah, it's very interesting
00:21
because we cited within our investigation, our story last week, an example of a young child who
00:29
was in her Halloween costume, who was trapped in the backseat of her parents, Tesla. That is almost
00:37
verbatim what the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is describing here as it opens
00:42
this probe, this issue of Tesla owners, their vehicles losing battery. And Tesla itself acknowledges in its
00:51
owner's manuals and in documents that it shares with first responders that, look, our doors just
00:57
don't open from the outside if our vehicles don't have power. That's a real safety concern,
01:02
particularly if you have young kids in your car. This is, you know, leading NHTSA to open this
01:09
investigation. And I would say, you know, it's not necessarily the case that defect investigations
01:13
are market moving because they tend to take a really long time to play out. And it's hard to tell
01:19
at this juncture just how costly this could be if it ends up ultimately resulting in, you know,
01:25
for example, a recall. I would say that, you know, what could set this apart from other
01:31
investigations for Tesla is it may not be something that they could resolve with an over-the-air
01:36
software update. And if that's the case, if they actually have to, you know, make some physical
01:41
change to their vehicles that could be costly for the company.
