00:00:00That's coming off of the heels of 92 points in his first two games, a franchise record.
00:00:07And with no LeBron, the Lakers will be looking to everybody to lift their game.
00:00:12Hello again, everybody, and welcome.
00:00:14Look who I found.
00:00:16The real MVP.
00:00:18So we lose Luka, we lose LeBron, but we gain Stu, 39th year.
00:00:22Congratulations, man.
00:00:23It's good to see you.
00:00:24It's great to be back.
00:00:25It really is.
00:00:26Yeah, it's great to have you here.
00:00:27So let's get to basketball, because I know you want to.
00:00:30Everybody's got to raise their game today.
00:00:32It's pretty obvious without your two best players out.
00:00:34Well, when you're two stars or sideline, obviously players have to step it up.
00:00:38Not just one or two.
00:00:40Everybody has to do just a little more, starting with Austin Reed.
00:00:44He's coming off of a pretty good game of his own when he had 25, 11, and 7.
00:00:48So believe it or not, he's going to have to have those kind of numbers, if not better,
00:00:52in this ballgame, because he's going to be the primary ball handler.
00:00:55And this is the one guy I would like to see get involved real early in the game, not stand
00:01:01in the corner waiting to shoot a three or something, become a real aggressive attacker
00:01:05on the offensive end, because they're going to need him to be effective in the absence
00:01:10of the star players.
00:01:12We really don't know what to make of Sacramento coming up this year, although they have a
00:01:15ton of familiar names, including three former Lakers, who will be a part of the rotation
00:01:20tonight.
00:01:20But let's start with a former Bruin of UCLA, that's Zach Levine.
00:01:24You know, Zach Levine has always been one tough cover, whether he's been with Chicago
00:01:28or now with Sacramento.
00:01:30This is a guy that can do just about everything offensively.
00:01:33He can attack the rim with the best of him.
00:01:35He's got a good mid-range game.
00:01:37And then he's got a long-range game that you have to be concerned about.
00:01:40So when you're trying to guard someone like that, you can't take a sigh of relief.
00:01:44You've got to be focused every minute.
00:01:46Now, I talked about mid-range game.
00:01:48Well, we're going to see one of the kings of the mid-range games.
00:01:51DeMar DeRozan just operates inside the arc better than most ever.
00:01:56I mean, this guy is really, a really efficient player.
00:01:59Then at times, he may even step out and shoot a three, but he doesn't rely on the three
00:02:03to put points on the board.
00:02:06It's welcome back, Stu, and the first road game of the campaign.
00:02:11Kings-Lakers, when we come back after this.
00:02:15So if you put it, like, right there and there, you should be all right.
00:02:22Well, I haven't heard myself yet.
00:02:23Really?
00:02:24Hello, hello, hello.
00:02:25Testing, one, two, three.
00:02:26Oh, my God.
00:02:37Oh, my God.
00:02:51Oh, my God.
00:02:53Oh, my God.
00:02:54Oh, my God.
00:02:55Oh, my God.
00:02:56Oh, my God.
00:02:56Oh, my God.
00:02:57Oh, my God.
00:02:58Oh, my God.
00:02:59Oh, my God.
00:03:00Oh, my God.
00:03:00Oh, my God.
00:03:01Oh, my God.
00:03:01Oh, my God.
00:03:02Oh, my God.
00:03:02Oh, my God.
00:03:03Oh, my God.
00:03:04Oh, my God.
00:03:04Oh, my God.
00:03:04Oh, my God.
00:03:05Oh, my God.
00:03:06Oh, my God.
00:03:06Oh, my God.
00:03:07Oh, my God.
00:03:07Oh, my God.
00:03:08Oh, my God.
00:03:09Oh, my God.
00:03:10Oh, my God.
00:03:11Oh, my God.
00:03:12Oh, my God.
00:03:13Oh, my God.
00:03:14Oh, my God.
00:03:15Oh, my God.
00:03:16And now, ladies and gentlemen, it is the time to be tonight's 35 for your Sacramento Kings!
00:03:37Only place to get the Western Bacon Cheeseburger.
00:03:40But have you tangled with the spicy Western Bacon Cheeseburger?
00:03:45A little rainy today here in Sacramento, but ready to go as we are inside the Golden 1 Center.
00:03:53Lakers and the Kings, here's the starting lineup.
00:03:55Obviously a change with two of your mainstays out.
00:03:59We're going to see Marcus Smart in the starting lineup and Gabe Vinson, who had started before, obviously.
00:04:04And then for the Kings, Zach Lameen and DeMar DeRozan, Compton's own Damana Sabonis,
00:04:10who missed the first game but came back and had a tremendous double-double the other night.
00:04:14Keyon Ellis, underrated, and the former Laker, Dennis Schroeder.
00:04:18Lexus Keith to the game and Stu.
00:04:20Well, offensively, they've got to shoot the ball well tonight.
00:04:23Got to make at least 10 threes against this Kings team.
00:04:26But the matchup I'm looking to see is eight and it's a bonus.
00:04:29This one should be interesting.
00:04:30Will tell me quite a bit.
00:04:33And then, obviously, the bench is going to have to produce in a big-time way,
00:04:36especially the Laker bench, since they're so short-handed.
00:04:38You know, Mike, we talk about no LeBron, we talk about no Luka, no Jackson Hayes either.
00:04:43So what's going on with the rotation tonight for J.J.?
00:04:46Yeah, certainly unfortunate, Billy, to get that information about not having Luka for at least a week.
00:04:52And how are they going to fill in for it, though?
00:04:53Well, you do have Austin Reeves, all right?
00:04:55Reeves has been tremendous and maybe just a little bit overshadowed by how ridiculous Luka has been playing.
00:05:01Austin, you see the average last year against Sacramento.
00:05:03But this year, averaging about 26 and 10, even while Luka has been going for 40-plus points per game.
00:05:10So J.J. Redick does feel confident that Austin can handle that primary scoring load.
00:05:15But what about the secondary, though?
00:05:17Because that's usually what Austin does behind Luka.
00:05:19How Gabe Vincent, right?
00:05:20Gabe Vincent can increase his usage and still be efficient.
00:05:24He did it a couple of times in the preseason when we saw Luka or Austin were out.
00:05:28And we know LeBron was out for all of those.
00:05:29So do expect to see some more usage from Gabe.
00:05:31Right off the tip, they slam it home.
00:05:35And Keyon Ellis.
00:05:37So an inauspicious start for the purple and gold.
00:05:40Dressed in their Sunday lights here tonight.
00:05:43Both these teams come in with a record of 1-1.
00:05:46They both avenge a first-game loss.
00:05:48Here's Schroeder chasing after Reeves.
00:05:50He's on his hip.
00:05:52Of course, three Lakers scored over 20 the other night.
00:05:55Rue is one of them.
00:05:56Here he goes from 17 straight away.
00:05:58And a real good sign that Rue is involved early.
00:06:01And hopefully his confidence will stay at an all-time high.
00:06:03And he can continue to be effective.
00:06:05Yeah, after a quiet opening, he really found his groove in the third quarter.
00:06:09The other night in game number two.
00:06:11And that big win over Minnesota where the Lakers really dominated on the outside.
00:06:16Sabonis, he is a walking double-double.
00:06:19Led the NBA in that stat last year.
00:06:21And the Lakers turn it over.
00:06:24Up ahead now, but they return the favor.
00:06:27Ellis.
00:06:28Ill-advised pass that time by Gabe.
00:06:31Zach from deep.
00:06:33Has not shot it well in the first couple of games.
00:06:36But that was nothing but net.
00:06:38Only two games in.
00:06:40Well, you're talking about the leader in three-point percentage last year.
00:06:44Zach Levine.
00:06:45Three.
00:06:46Trying to answer back.
00:06:47That was not even close.
00:06:49And Sabonis will take it himself.
00:06:51Here he goes.
00:06:52Couple of big steps.
00:06:53Up and under.
00:06:54Can't score.
00:06:55Sabonis trying to get it back from Rui.
00:06:57And it'll be Laker basketball.
00:07:00All right.
00:07:01J.J. Rennick.
00:07:03Third coach in franchise history to win 50 games in his first full season at the helm.
00:07:09And, of course, a little bit more relaxed coming into the year.
00:07:13But now it's nervous times as it's regular season.
00:07:15But here's Aiden good pass.
00:07:17Working baseline is Rui to score.
00:07:19Always good to see passes big to big.
00:07:21And that was a good play by Aiden finding Rui.
00:07:24He talked about a big night tonight for DeAndre, the former number one pick in the draft.
00:07:29Good matchup.
00:07:30Keion Ellis.
00:07:30Of course, no Keegan Murray for Sacramento.
00:07:33One of their key players.
00:07:35DeAndre's got control of the basketball.
00:07:38We're in the first two minutes of the game.
00:07:41So four meetings between these two restaurant rivals.
00:07:44DeAndre's out of any day.
00:07:46He lays it up in a lap with a nice spin move.
00:07:48Good patience that time by Rui noticing the mismatch and waited for Aiden to get good, deep position.
00:07:55Schroeder who led his German national team to a championship at Eurobasket this summer.
00:08:02And that's an air ball.
00:08:03And out of bounds it goes.
00:08:04That'll be a team rebound going to the Lakers.
00:08:06Sometimes it helps just to flag a player.
00:08:08All they did was put their hand up and it kind of threw him off his mark.
00:08:13This is the first of a back-to-back for the Lakers.
00:08:16We will be home tomorrow night against the troubled.
00:08:19At least as far as the coach is concerned.
00:08:22Portland Trailblazers.
00:08:23Oh, wow.
00:08:23Look at that.
00:08:24Cook shot by Marcus Smart.
00:08:26Marcus with the left-handed hook across the key.
00:08:30Marcus Smart, the former Defensive Player of the Year, a couple years back in the NBA.
00:08:39DeMar leaves it left wing for Schroeder.
00:08:41Reeves is guarding him.
00:08:43They're going to work on the high post.
00:08:44Sabonis.
00:08:45One-on-one with DeAndre.
00:08:46A good defense by DeAndre that time.
00:08:49The altered shot.
00:08:50He's a good job of challenging without fouling, too.
00:08:53And the Lakers turn it over again.
00:08:56Other and fast break.
00:09:00The Lakers were beaten up and down the floor in the preseason.
00:09:02Now, that doesn't mean much.
00:09:04But still, they were run out of the gym numerous times during the exhibition slate.
00:09:09And they can't be turning the ball over, especially being as shorthanded as they are.
00:09:14They've got to make sure they keep possession.
00:09:16And it's in the one-hand jam by DeAndre Ayton after the lob.
00:09:22Nice setup.
00:09:23Nice finish by DeAndre.
00:09:25Nice start for the Lakers, except for a couple of turnovers.
00:09:28Yeah, a lot of energy.
00:09:29And a lot of shots to be had, and they know it.
00:09:32Luka LeBron out of action.
00:09:35More official word on LeBron when he might be back.
00:09:39At the bottom of the board, we're going to get a foul on Schroeder.
00:09:43Nice look ahead by Smart.
00:09:45And speaking of Smart, look at this left hand across the key.
00:09:48Nothing but bottom.
00:09:50It's just a beautiful play.
00:09:51And then Gabe sets up Ayton for the easy flush.
00:09:55You go the other way with the right hand.
00:09:57It's almost like magic coming across the key.
00:09:59Like that.
00:10:00And knocking it down.
00:10:01There's DeAndre Ayton.
00:10:03Magic Arizona.
00:10:04Magic had a little more height on his shot.
00:10:06That one was last resort.
00:10:09All right, Doug Christie.
00:10:11Again, Laker fans, you know all about him.
00:10:13In fact, he was a starting shooting guard on the last two Kings teams to lose to the Lakers in the playoffs.
00:10:20In fact, I was just talking about that with you.
00:10:21That, you know, whenever you think of this town and these two teams, you think about those great battles back in the early 2000s.
00:10:27There were some real nice playoff series.
00:10:31The regular season and playoffs against the Kings.
00:10:3410-2 Laker run.
00:10:36They've made their last four field goal attempts, and they're up 12-7.
00:10:40Here in Sacramento, always a full house and always a very noisy throng.
00:10:47Schroeder right back to Sabonis.
00:10:49He likes to operate in and around the basket.
00:10:51They will take that all night long if you're a Laker.
00:10:56Marcus Smartboy, the tenacity and the toughness that he brings really unmatched.
00:11:01And DeAndre gets fouled again.
00:11:03That was a good catch and go by DeAndre that time.
00:11:06And Sabonis, a little fat-footed, tried to get up to block his shot and got nothing but forearm.
00:11:11Let's get back to the last two games these two teams played.
00:11:15Lakers beat Minnesota by 18.
00:11:17They shot 59%.
00:11:20In that game.
00:11:22How about this right now from Carl's Jr.?
00:11:24You know Carl's Jr.'s Western Bacon Cheeseburger.
00:11:28Heavy tango with spicy Western Bacon.
00:11:30Stu, you're going to win just about every game.
00:11:34If you shoot 59% from the floor and 41% from three and 81 from the free throw line.
00:11:40Yeah, you're going to win more than you share.
00:11:44Sacramento won a thriller against Utah here on a putback by Sabonis.
00:11:48Corner three, Ellis.
00:11:52That was real good focus by Ellis because Gabe was challenging on the shot.
00:11:57Keon from Alabama and a good defensive player.
00:12:00One of the top defensive players in the league.
00:12:02Here's Keon Ellis.
00:12:06De'Andre whips it right back out to Gabe.
00:12:08They've only got five on the shot clock.
00:12:11So Vince has got to fire it up from a long range.
00:12:13And we get a foul.
00:12:15Boy, did they bail the Lakers out.
00:12:17Well, they had the Lakers where they wanted them.
00:12:19Short clock.
00:12:20But made them put it on the floor and then challenging the shot.
00:12:25So it's going to be three free throws coming on the foul.
00:12:28Not a good play by the Kings with the Lakers on top by three.
00:12:35Welcome back.
00:12:36And Laker fans, Spectrum Sportsnet Plus on the NBA app is your ticket to Laker games on Spectrum Sportsnet all season long.
00:12:44Watch games on any device anywhere in Southern California without a cable or satellite subscription.
00:12:48Now sign up at NBA.com slash Sportsnet and start streaming Spectrum Sportsnet anytime, anywhere.
00:12:58Now the Lakers start the game shooting 83 percent.
00:13:02Five out of their first sixes.
00:13:03Gabe will go to the line.
00:13:04And you've got Sabonis on the bench right now with two fouls.
00:13:08Two early fouls, Stu.
00:13:09Yeah, that last one, the one he just now fouled Gabe, is one that I'm sure he's not very happy about.
00:13:14And you don't reach in and pick up a foul your second this early in the game on a three-point shooter.
00:13:20By the way, Gabe, from this area, he was born in, oh, he was born in Magesto.
00:13:26And then went to high school, St. Mary's, in Stockton, California, home of the Kings G League team,
00:13:32which he played for at some point.
00:13:34And that's all about approximately, what, about 52 miles from here.
00:13:37So, local kid done good.
00:13:40And here he is playing against the Sacramento Kings in three free throws.
00:13:44And good to see other Lakers really be being aggressive offensively because the Kings game plan without LeBron and without Luka
00:13:52was to take the ball out of Austin Reeves' hands.
00:13:55They have done a pretty good job of denying him any kind of opportunities.
00:14:00So, good start for the Lakers.
00:14:01They're up by six.
00:14:03We've only had one lead change, and this is the largest Laker lead on a 14-5 run.
00:14:09Ellis, boy, he leads Reeves behind Dunny, and that little step to the left for the rebound right into the lap of Rui Hachimura.
00:14:16And I see Jake Laravia in when it's dead.
00:14:19Hopefully Jake can continue to produce.
00:14:23That one rolls around and comes out.
00:14:24The former Oregon State Beaver drew Eubanks, serviceable big man.
00:14:29He has a rebound.
00:14:30He's in there for Sabonis.
00:14:32Zach from the outside.
00:14:33That's Levine.
00:14:34Zach!
00:14:35Levine!
00:14:36Set up beautifully by Schroeder.
00:14:39He does a good job of dribble penetration and kicking to the open people.
00:14:43Now, two straight 30-plus point games this year for Levine, but only shooting six out of 19 from beyond the arc to start the season.
00:14:51But he's got a couple here tonight.
00:14:53Oh, they do it again.
00:14:54Oh, they do it again.
00:14:56And the Lakers will benefit at the free throw line.
00:14:59This is just a smart play this time by Austin Reeves.
00:15:02Guy's hands are reaching in, so look at Austin.
00:15:04He just fills it and just raises up.
00:15:07That's just a very heads-up play by Austin.
00:15:10Nothing he can do as a defender.
00:15:12Not when you're putting your reaching in like that.
00:15:14Exactly.
00:15:14You made a mistake, and he makes you pay.
00:15:18Reeves will have a couple of more.
00:15:20So, LaRavia, who was here for a bit last year, wasn't a long time, as you can see, 19 games.
00:15:30Vanderbilt, he's coming in also.
00:15:32We'll give you the five on the floor when it's all settled.
00:15:34Former Laker Malik Monk is about to check in, too.
00:15:39And with Malik, always good to get to him early.
00:15:42You don't want him to get the early start because he's so creative.
00:15:46He can really put a hurting on you.
00:15:48Well, you know, they asked Zach Levine about Malik the other night, and he said Malik gets hot so fast.
00:15:54He's a microwave.
00:15:55Well, you've got to bring up the original microwave, if they're going to say that.
00:15:59And Vinny Johnson.
00:16:00Vinny Johnson from the Pistons was the original.
00:16:02Get him another nickname.
00:16:04Exactly.
00:16:05Well, I don't think he was sticking the nickname, but he says he gets hot.
00:16:07Yeah.
00:16:07But you're right.
00:16:08Got to shout out to Vinny.
00:16:09Halfway through the first quarter, and Lakers doing what they need to do.
00:16:19And the Lakers already in the bonus.
00:16:21No team fouls for the Lakeshore.
00:16:23In short.
00:16:25And the rebound Smart off of the deflection by Aiton.
00:16:275.45 remaining first quarter.
00:16:30Oh, backdoor leads, and a good bounce pass to score.
00:16:35There's another example of what Marcus Smart brings to the team.
00:16:38He set that one up himself.
00:16:40Count it.
00:16:41You've got an and one at the other end, and DeAndre will pick up the foul.
00:16:44Another look at that play where Marcus sets up Austin.
00:16:50Just he's pointing, telling the big to get to the other side,
00:16:52and recognizes the back cut.
00:16:54Just a beautiful setup.
00:16:56Easy play for Austin to finish.
00:16:58You know, Marcus loving life right now as a Laker.
00:17:01Super happy to be on this squad.
00:17:03We're talking about a former Celtic, of course.
00:17:05Many have made that transition with the bitter rivals.
00:17:09But here he is.
00:17:10He's spent some time in Memphis, obviously.
00:17:14And that one bounces in for Dennis Schroeder.
00:17:18What did you think of Schroeder's time when he was a Laker, Steve?
00:17:20I thought he was very productive.
00:17:22I mean, another one of those guys that really doesn't make fun of getting to the rim.
00:17:27And he's a real pest defensively.
00:17:30How about another lob and jam, and finishing at that time was DeAndre Aiton.
00:17:35So Aiton has seven points.
00:17:36Really spread around the scoring for the Lakers here in quarter number one.
00:17:40Just what you need.
00:17:42And what we expected to.
00:17:43Hit for it, you're right.
00:17:45Oh, we got a wedgie.
00:17:46We got a first quarter wedgie.
00:17:48We got a jump ball at midcourt.
00:17:52So it'll be...
00:17:53Eubanks and DeAndre Aiton will be jumping it up.
00:17:58Now you saw, Doug Christie.
00:17:59One thing, or one area, where the Kings improved upon when Doug became head coach,
00:18:05when they relieved Mike Brown of his duties,
00:18:07but they became a better offensive team.
00:18:09The Kings, though, defensively, have been a mess for a decade, at least.
00:18:14And they still haven't figured out the formula.
00:18:16Here's an example.
00:18:17I thought Vanderbilt could have retrieved that ball.
00:18:20He was under the impression that the Kings, he didn't, he'd just let it go out of bounds.
00:18:23If you can get the ball, always get it, because you never know how the officials see it.
00:18:28Schroeder confronts Aiton, who was there to reject.
00:18:32Chance for the break, here they come, three on two.
00:18:34Middleman is Reeves, lobbing underneath, and the Arabia can't finish.
00:18:37The tap-dum, and in by Vando.
00:18:41Look how quickly they're back in the uproar.
00:18:43They gotta get back.
00:18:44They gotta get back, and an and one for Levine.
00:18:47Now you can't score and celebrate.
00:18:48You gotta score and get back.
00:18:50Match up, talk, because the Lakers got the layup,
00:18:53and didn't give up a layup three seconds later.
00:18:55By the way, our officials tonight, as we see Zach score the and one,
00:19:01as Aiton has his second foul.
00:19:03Kevin Scott, Mitchell Irvin, and Leon Wood, the former Cal State Fullerton star.
00:19:09When we were talking to him before the game, you know,
00:19:11he only repped for 14 minutes last year until he ripped his hamstring.
00:19:16He says he's good and ready to go.
00:19:18Good to see Leon back.
00:19:19Yep.
00:19:19He was in very good spirits.
00:19:26It's great to be back at work and at the job 30 years.
00:19:3030 years as a referee.
00:19:32As an official here in the NBA.
00:19:34Reeves with the basketball.
00:19:36He goes to the rim as well as anybody in the league.
00:19:39And he scores high with the left hand.
00:19:41He'll put that one high over the top of the defender with the left.
00:19:46I mean, that's not a hyperbole either.
00:19:48I mean, he goes to that rim as well as just about anybody.
00:19:53Good defense by Rui getting his hand on the air and pass.
00:19:56Another look at Austin going to his left and then using the left.
00:20:00Pretty play by Austin Reeves.
00:20:02A little over four minutes remaining.
00:20:04It's a great first quarter for the Lakers.
00:20:0627-19.
00:20:08Without LeBron.
00:20:09Without Luka.
00:20:10Without Jackson Hayes.
00:20:11Once again, they are running.
00:20:13They are on their horse coming out of the way.
00:20:15In and out.
00:20:16No.
00:20:16They battled underneath.
00:20:17Lakers had it for a moment.
00:20:19But now Schroeder will reorganize with 14 on the shot clock.
00:20:24Schroeder, they don't pick him up.
00:20:26Nobody picked him up and he lays it in.
00:20:28He is very good at just getting into the paint
00:20:32and then finding out what the defensive center is going to do.
00:20:36He's the epitome of quick but not hurrying.
00:20:39No John Wooden adage.
00:20:41Be quick but don't hurry.
00:20:44Rui pull up.
00:20:46Yes, sir.
00:20:47Rui Hachimura again.
00:20:48I like it.
00:20:48You'd love to see it.
00:20:49Yeah, I like Rui being aggressive offensively.
00:20:54Malik.
00:20:54Goes it away.
00:20:56Three on one.
00:20:57Vando.
00:20:57All the way.
00:20:58Rui scores.
00:20:59Time out, Sacramento.
00:21:03Oh, they just about made a good defensive play.
00:21:05But Rui, with that big strong left hand, able to control it and get the easy hoop.
00:21:11If you want to score easily, play some defense.
00:21:14Good play by Vandy.
00:21:15Stepping into the lane and then Rui finishing the lane with the left.
00:21:19And the Lakers up by 10.
00:21:21Hey, brings us the real difference maker.
00:21:29It's been Rui, Stu.
00:21:30Yeah, he's the first Laker in double shooters.
00:21:32He's been all four of his field goal attempts.
00:21:35And he's been very aggressive.
00:21:37Very good sign in the absence of LeBron and Luka.
00:21:41And the Lakers as a team have been very aggressive on both ends of the floor.
00:21:45Thus, they've been able to get out and transition, get some early opportunities, and are shooting 79% from the field.
00:21:52And you saw it right at the beginning of the game.
00:21:55You pointed out Rui was the main man as far as the key to the wheel to get things going.
00:22:00Well, I thought he was the one guy that had to really step up a lot more.
00:22:03Everybody had to step up.
00:22:04Yep.
00:22:04But I thought Rui was very capable of stepping up and doing what he's doing.
00:22:09The Lakers have made 10 out of their last 12.
00:22:13And they are just dominating.
00:22:15Russ is in.
00:22:16Russell Westbrook signed recently.
00:22:19He'll give you that game 100 miles an hour before they turn it over again.
00:22:23Comedy of errors in the Lakers foul with Vando in his anxiety to get it back after making a good play.
00:22:29I can't fault Vandy on that, though.
00:22:31I mean, that's just pure hustle by Vandy.
00:22:34Then when he tried to avoid, one defender did his spin and spun right into a second defender who stole the ball and picked up the foul.
00:22:41But that's great hustle by Vandy.
00:22:43You know, we mentioned the other day that the Lakers shooting 59%.
00:22:46You're not going to lose many games.
00:22:47You're not going to win many if you have at least six turnovers in a quarter.
00:22:51That's what the Kings have right now with six turnovers.
00:22:54As DeMar, the last four years, nobody has shot more mid-range shots than DeMar.
00:23:01In fact, every year he's a leader in that category.
00:23:04And he's far and away above everybody else.
00:23:07He's more than double the shot attempts being the next closest man in the NBA.
00:23:11That's how much he owns the mid-range.
00:23:14Rui, three.
00:23:15Leapside rebound, Cardwell.
00:23:21DeRozan, from the former Trojans, from Compton.
00:23:25Well, he's in his office.
00:23:26Back and forth, he goes.
00:23:27He's in his office.
00:23:29That's where he operates for.
00:23:31He is a deadly mid-range shooter.
00:23:3420% of his shots will be from threes.
00:23:40He's expanded his game a tiny bit, but still.
00:23:44And he leads the Kings in their first two games in assists.
00:23:48Of course, they are 1-1.
00:23:49They are 1-1.
00:23:50We mentioned they are 1-0 here at home.
00:23:51They lost the opener at Phoenix.
00:23:55Interesting.
00:23:56Last year, we saw Sacramento four times before the change of the calendar to 2025.
00:24:02The season series was over quickly.
00:24:05It's a little more spread out this year.
00:24:06Three more games after this.
00:24:09LaRabia spinning himself.
00:24:10Jake leans in.
00:24:12Tough shot right there.
00:24:13He can't score.
00:24:14Yeah, that's pretty good defense by Saarich.
00:24:18One of the two minutes to play in the quarter.
00:24:21Again, the Lakers have been in the bonus for a while.
00:24:24DeRozan turns again.
00:24:27Well, he just gets to where his favorite spots are.
00:24:30Then elevates or else gives you the up fake and waits for you to commit to foul.
00:24:3517th season.
00:24:36So DeMar DeRozan, think about this, 29 shots this year.
00:24:46Just two of them have been threes.
00:24:49Yeah, when he's working one-on-one like that,
00:24:51sometimes you might want to just send that secondary defender
00:24:53just to make him pick it up and give it up.
00:24:56If you don't, you've got problems.
00:24:58Yeah, and he's 3-for-3.
00:24:59He will eventually put those threes in the air, like I mentioned.
00:25:02Probably about a fifth of his shots will be there.
00:25:04All right, Laker fans, nothing beats.
00:25:06If you're seeing your team hit the hardwood live, get your tickets right now,
00:25:09even if it's last minute.
00:25:11At Ticketmaster, the official ticket marketplace of your Lakers and the NBA.
00:25:14Next home game is tomorrow against Portland.
00:25:19Thiago Splitter right now is the interim coach for the Portland Trailblazers.
00:25:24They are playing as we speak against the Clippers.
00:25:28DeRozan, this is one of nine games in the NBA.
00:25:34The Lakers are in a zone now, so trying to cool off the dribble penetration of DeRozan right now.
00:25:40There's Russ.
00:25:42Russ doesn't particularly want to take that outside shot.
00:25:45Instead, he goes in deep.
00:25:46Sarge is there.
00:25:48He gets bottled up.
00:25:49He comes out of the pack with it.
00:25:51Now to right wing side.
00:25:53Vandell all the way back.
00:25:54And behind by Cardwell, who hustled back to Sacramento.
00:25:58That's a good hustle by Cardwell.
00:26:00As he gets the secondary defender, kind of blindsides Vandell and makes the block.
00:26:08Dylan Cardwell from Auburn.
00:26:09War Eagle.
00:26:11He's a rookie.
00:26:12When undrafted.
00:26:15He stands 6-11.
00:26:18Show that he can move down the court.
00:26:20Rui holding it.
00:26:21Got to get rid of it.
00:26:22Does now to Jake.
00:26:24The radio.
00:26:24Oh, loses his man and hits his three.
00:26:30He did a great job of creating space.
00:26:36LaRavia, the early leader for the Lakers in minutes off the bench.
00:26:41They try to operate baseline.
00:26:43They nearly turn it over again.
00:26:44And they did the right thing.
00:26:46They noticed the Lakers in that zone.
00:26:47What you want to do is get it into the middle against the zone.
00:26:50And DeRozan got it and had a chance for a layup there.
00:26:54That was the first Laker made three.
00:26:55They're one for four.
00:26:58Sacramento is three for seven.
00:27:00You get Schroeder checking back in.
00:27:04Dennis Schroeder played 127 games in a Laker uniform over a couple of seasons.
00:27:12Played two games last year against the Lakers as a member of Golden State.
00:27:16Leaning in is DeRozan.
00:27:17With a missed rebound by Russ.
00:27:21Westbrook.
00:27:22Now try to put a move on LaRavia.
00:27:24Here he comes.
00:27:25He can't finish.
00:27:27But Westbrook will shoot free throws.
00:27:30Think about Russell Westbrook.
00:27:34He does not cheat the game.
00:27:36He is constant hustle when he's on the floor.
00:27:40That was a great offensive rebound.
00:27:42And then taking it to the rim to earn himself two free throws.
00:27:45Absolutely.
00:27:45Say what you will about Russ.
00:27:48He never takes a night off when he's on the floor.
00:27:51Never mails it in.
00:27:52Never.
00:27:54He'll get another free throw.
00:27:56Just not in his DNA to do that.
00:27:58Yeah.
00:27:59He's wired to give you 100% every time he steps on the floor.
00:28:03Look at that.
00:28:04Top 20 in scoring in NBA history.
00:28:07Two seasons with the Lakers.
00:28:08130 games.
00:28:11While with the Lake Show average 17 and a half points.
00:28:14Remember he was the MVP of the league back in 2017.
00:28:19Don't forget that.
00:28:20The Lakers having some issues.
00:28:25Shot clock is 11 ahead of the game clock.
00:28:27That glances off the rim.
00:28:29And that means Sacramento will get an opportunity for the last shot.
00:28:32But the Lakers putting up a big 36 so far here in the quarter.
00:28:36Yeah, a surprising number for this shorthanded team.
00:28:41The Rosen with six to play in the first.
00:28:45Now to Malik.
00:28:46He can create.
00:28:47Now to the left-hand side on his way.
00:28:49Now if it goes, it doesn't go.
00:28:51And a good defensive effort on that half court for the Lakers at the end of the quarter.
00:28:55Did a great job, but getting the ball out of the Rosen's hands created an opportunity
00:29:00where they had to just cast it up.
00:29:02We'll head to the second with the Lakers on top by 9, 36 to 27.
00:29:12Brought to you by Nissan.
00:29:14At Nissan, we make cars that thrill.

00:29:23Welcome back to Sacramento.
00:29:24Lakers will be back here in January.
00:29:27Next meeting between the two will be right at the end of 2025.
00:29:3112-28 to be exact.
00:29:34How about right now the free throw story, Stu?
00:29:36And the Lakers dominated in free throwing against the Timberwolves a couple of nights ago.
00:29:41Right now they've made 11 out of 12.
00:29:42Sacramento just two out of four.
00:29:44That's called playing defense without fouling.
00:29:47And that time they play defense on Vincent without fouling at that end.
00:29:51Good recovery by Malik Monk.
00:29:53Keon Ellis.
00:29:55And he nearly threw it away again.
00:29:57Turnover story, six for Sacramento, four for the Lakers.
00:30:01So, they didn't really play a clean quarter either in that regard.
00:30:07For the Lakers, you've got Aiton, Rui, Gabe Vincent, Jake LaRabia, and Marcus Smart for the Kings on the floor to start this quarter.
00:30:15So, bonus, Ellis, DeRozan, and Malik Monk.
00:30:21And Russ.
00:30:23Russell Westbrook.
00:30:25You know, Sabonis picked up those early two fouls, and he's yet to scratch from the field.
00:30:30Malik Monk pulls up.
00:30:32He's thinking about the rim, perhaps.
00:30:34That saw an easy shot to be had, and he knocks it down.
00:30:38He writes the bonus.
00:30:39Just two rebounds, an assistant.
00:30:41No points.
00:30:43And again, the first double-double of the year the other night.
00:30:46He had 61 last year.
00:30:48They turn it over.
00:30:49Ross, Ross, bad pass.
00:30:51Bad pass.
00:30:52See if the Lakers can take the gift and take advantage, and they foul him in the backcourt.
00:30:58Right idea.
00:30:59Bad execution.
00:31:00Exactly, they got the turnover, got transition going, had numbers, but just didn't execute it,
00:31:07and give it right back to the latest.
00:31:08That's not even showboating.
00:31:09That's what you do every time there.
00:31:11Lob for the jam.
00:31:12Just a little bit too high for Russell Westbrook.
00:31:16Gabe Vincent, UC Santa Barbara fame, and again, as we mentioned, grew up around these parts.
00:31:23Down low, Aten, maybe a little bit further out, but he wanted to get it in the post.
00:31:28He missed that jump shot.
00:31:30DeRozan.
00:31:35We are kind of at courtside.
00:31:37We're in the second row.
00:31:38We can barely see the actual floor.
00:31:40Here's Westbrook hitting from the baseline.
00:31:45Russ wide open in the corner and didn't hesitate.
00:31:4818th year for Russ, 36 years of age.
00:31:52Marcus.
00:31:54That's another good play defensively by the Kings without committing a foul.
00:31:59Going 100 miles an hour.
00:32:00Here's Westbrook.
00:32:02Making 110 as he blows right past the Laker defense.
00:32:06He's been in this league a long time, and I tell you something, his speed has not waned at all.
00:32:12He's got to be ready at all times.
00:32:17That foul on the floor, committed by the Kings.
00:32:21Another look after the Lakers.
00:32:24Had the shot blocked, Kings out, Russ with the ball.
00:32:27Nobody's committing, so he just takes it the distance.
00:32:30Wide open layup for Russell Westbrook.
00:32:33Seven fast-break points for Sacramento.
00:32:37You know, there's a counter to a four.
00:32:38You know, there's a nine-point lead ahead.
00:32:40Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:32:41Where'd it go?
00:32:41Almost.
00:32:43In the thin air.
00:32:44That's what we say.
00:32:46Smart boy, he drew that foul, didn't he?
00:32:48I mean, what are you going to do if you're the defender?
00:32:50Look at with his palms out.
00:32:52He's saying, look, what am I going to do?
00:32:54Well, I'm just smart.
00:32:55He's a solid dude.
00:32:56His market is smart.
00:32:57Yeah, Ellis is a good defender.
00:32:58But Marcus Smart does a real good job of creating the opportunity here.
00:33:02jumps in to Ellis, creates all the contact, earns himself two free throws.
00:33:07So that brings Zach Levine to the scorer's table.
00:33:12Yeah, Keon Ellis had three steals there tonight against the Jazz.
00:33:15Imagine what a good defender he is.
00:33:17All right, Laker fans, here we go.
00:33:20You know what's on the line tonight, Stu?
00:33:21What?
00:33:23Tacos on the line tonight.
00:33:24If the Lakers win, you're going to score two free tacos with a drink purchase
00:33:27from Joke in the Box tomorrow, day after the game.
00:33:32And tomorrow again, the Lakers will be in action at Kikko.com Arena.
00:33:36We got the game at 7.30, pregame at 6.30.
00:33:39And then the Lakers will go out on the road for two at Minnesota and at Memphis.
00:33:44And by the way, that game at Memphis next Friday is the first game of the NBA Cup.
00:33:50First round.
00:33:54Rui Hachimura picked up the foul, trying to deny the rows in the ball.
00:33:58It's the best way to stop a guy from scoring.
00:34:00Don't let him catch it.
00:34:0238-34.
00:34:03Damar's got it going on for mid-range.
00:34:08Big time right now.
00:34:09You just don't want to show it all the time.
00:34:12You've got to keep the guys guessing.
00:34:13But every once in a while, you've just got to send that secondary defender
00:34:16because a guy like Damar, you're leaving him on an island by himself,
00:34:20and this is what will happen to you.
00:34:22He just masters the mid-range game.
00:34:24And right now, he's four out of five.
00:34:28Now, you know, Mike was talking about the rotation before the game tonight.
00:34:35Without LeBron, the first couple of games, Lakers played a rotation of eight.
00:34:40Obviously, that would equate to nine when LeBron gets healthy.
00:34:43But Dalton Connect has been buried at the end of the bench,
00:34:45but he's in there right now.
00:34:47Jay Vincent.
00:34:48So let's see if Dalton can answer the bell, so to speak,
00:34:52because he's out there.
00:34:53Sacramento four for four in the second quarter from the field.
00:34:57Underneath, Sabonis.
00:34:59He's in the key forever.
00:35:00Eight?
00:35:01No.
00:35:02And DeRozan can't hit.
00:35:04And a rebound by Dalton going up the ladder to get it.
00:35:07Sabonis is in there a while.
00:35:10Smart cross court.
00:35:12Now down low to eight, trying to get Sabonis possibly with that third foul.
00:35:17Back out to Dalton on its way.
00:35:19Just short.
00:35:20Straight as a string, but short.
00:35:21And here comes Sacramento.
00:35:24They can take the lead for the second time.
00:35:28But here again, you've got DeMar isoed on Dalton.
00:35:31Good job by DeAndre.
00:35:33That's an over.
00:35:34Now Sabonis.
00:35:36He is battling underneath.
00:35:37Could have given it to Russ.
00:35:39Underneath.
00:35:40He finds DeRozan.
00:35:41Hey!
00:35:42Hey!
00:35:42Again, that's just a hustle play by Russell Westbrook.
00:35:46Tell me what, he's made a difference, haven't he?
00:35:48He's turned this game around.
00:35:51Along with DeMar.
00:35:54Got a dead, should be a dead ball fire.
00:35:56Home in the league month.
00:35:57Ball wasn't thrown in yet, so it'll be one free throw for Gabe.
00:36:01And then the Lakers will maintain possession.
00:36:02Yeah, Lakers need something to go through the net.
00:36:05They have missed their last six field goal attempts.
00:36:09They're challenging the call.
00:36:13Green light is on.
00:36:15Green light is on.
00:36:18Find out the results of this challenge.
00:36:20Sacramento is called timeout to challenge a personal foul.
00:36:23Hopefully they don't take too long to decide on this.
00:36:35You know, Sacramento outscoring the Lakers 13-2 so far in the quarter.
00:36:41Eight and a half to play in it.
00:36:42Here it is.
00:36:43It's going to be interesting.
00:36:44That angle, it does look like that Gabe may have been the aggressor there,
00:36:50creating some space.
00:36:52But it only counts how the officials see it.
00:36:56We'll find out what they say when we come back.
00:37:00To you by Chipotle.
00:37:06And we are back, 42-38, and we have got a decision.
00:37:11Yeah, the decision doesn't go in favor of the Lakers.
00:37:14Instead of it being a defensive foul, it's an offensive foul on Gabe Vincent,
00:37:19shoving the defender to the floor.
00:37:20So, turnover for the Lakers, ball back to the Kings.
00:37:25Puts Doug Christie in a good mood, and sitting down will be Gabe.
00:37:29Look at that second quarter.
00:37:31Drought right now, 0-6.
00:37:33DeRozan for Sacramento has scored 12 of the team's last 19 points.
00:37:39Puts the Lakers on the road.
00:37:41That's a big-time area that they can improve.
00:37:44They played very well at Crypto.com last year.
00:37:47But we're just 19 and 22 away from home.
00:37:55DeRozan.
00:37:56Nosey set.
00:37:58Puts it up there.
00:37:59It's going to get defense by Kinect.
00:38:01That's a pretty good rebound by Aiden.
00:38:03Toothboxing out on Sabonis.
00:38:04Let's give Aiden credit now to his, uh, what, this is second rebounder's also got a couple of assists.
00:38:10Marcus Smart pull up quickly.
00:38:12Long shot long rebound.
00:38:14Have to get at the Rosen.
00:38:15He surveys the floor with a right-handed dribble.
00:38:19DeRozan trying to get to the rim.
00:38:21Once again, he runs right into Aiden.
00:38:22And he might have gotten poked in the, in the face, DeAndre Aiden.
00:38:28He's behind the basket.
00:38:30A little bit of discomfort.
00:38:34Rui comes out of the game.
00:38:36We got Jake LaRavia back in.
00:38:40Second quarter action here in Sacramento.
00:38:44Lakers have enough players on the floor.
00:38:47DeAndre Aiden headed to the bench.
00:38:49You got to stay out.
00:38:49Somebody's got to stay out there.
00:38:50So here comes Vandell.
00:38:53What a tough stretch, though, for the Lakers.
00:38:55You know, you look at it.
00:38:57We really didn't look at it too closely just recently.
00:39:01But with this game, nine out of 12 games on the road.
00:39:06Nine out of 12 games on the road for the Lakers starting tonight.
00:39:11Not easy early in the season.
00:39:13Under any circumstances.
00:39:14But when you're missing your top two.
00:39:16Yep.
00:39:17I mean, he could miss as many as six.
00:39:19If he's out for the next Monday.
00:39:21Reeves got it.
00:39:23Yes, sir, Austin Reeves.
00:39:26And again, no timetable on LeBron.
00:39:31Hopefully sooner rather than later.
00:39:33Here's Levine on its way.
00:39:35Short.
00:39:36Cap won't.
00:39:36Twice.
00:39:37Got four or five guys with an opportunity to get it.
00:39:40Westbrook in the corner.
00:39:41More than left him.
00:39:42They left him.
00:39:43And he scores.
00:39:44The second one.
00:39:50He's made from that exact spot.
00:39:52Got eight points in eight minutes.
00:39:54Oh, that one crawls over the rim.
00:39:57Thank you very much.
00:40:00Schroeder.
00:40:00Right wing.
00:40:01Cross court.
00:40:02Finds DeRozan.
00:40:03Homestanding Kings.
00:40:09They'll be hitting the road soon themselves.
00:40:12For a bunch of games here is DeRozan not even close.
00:40:17Russ has got to shoot it.
00:40:18It's only two o'clock.
00:40:21He knew he had to take it.
00:40:24He's feeling it from behind the yard.
00:40:26That's his third.
00:40:28Last year shot 32% from three.
00:40:32Austin got to get a bounce.
00:40:34Does it?
00:40:34Westbrook.
00:40:35Let's see if he takes it himself.
00:40:37The king of the triple double.
00:40:38Here he is.
00:40:39Westbrook all the way.
00:40:41Blocked.
00:40:42Rejected.
00:40:42Underneath.
00:40:43Good job by Kinect getting a piece of that one.
00:40:45Yeah.
00:40:45And he's at the other end and he scores.
00:40:48That's all about Dalton.
00:40:50But his playing time is going to just be all associated with what he does on this end of the floor.
00:40:56He's not predicated on defense.
00:40:57Yeah.
00:40:58Unless he brings his stroke off.
00:41:00Yeah, exactly.
00:41:01If he's not making shots, then it puts a lot of pressure on him to stay in the game.
00:41:08DeRozan with three to shoot against.
00:41:10They're working all the way down to the 24-ball.
00:41:13In and out.
00:41:14Heartbreak.
00:41:15Taken by Jake LaRavia.
00:41:17Who's had some of his best games of his career against the Lakers.
00:41:20Well, that's a good bounce.
00:41:21His market spark.
00:41:22He found himself way underneath of the basket.
00:41:24And Reeves found him.
00:41:25He did a great job of sealing Schroeder.
00:41:27Good job by Marcus Smart.
00:41:29And heads up play by Austin to see.
00:41:32All of a sudden, we've got five lead changes.
00:41:34DeRozan gets to the rim.
00:41:36And it hangs and finally scores.
00:41:40Five and a half to play.
00:41:42And half to number one.
00:41:43And the Lakers turn it over for the sixth time.
00:41:46Sacramento has seven turned overs.
00:41:48They haven't really gotten some bonus in the game at all yet.
00:41:52DeRozan, he's all a little bit about him so far.
00:41:55Vendo with a solid rebound.
00:41:57He's got his headband on the top of his head.
00:42:01Now he loses it completely.
00:42:02Reeves backhand layup.
00:42:05Going down the middle and scoring.
00:42:06At the beginning of the game, they were making sure Austin didn't get opportunities to dribble drive like that.
00:42:12Now they've backed off and he's having his way.
00:42:15Nearly twin statistical lines for Austin the first two games.
00:42:21I mean, nearly identical.
00:42:2326 points and 125 in the other.
00:42:26You can go down the list.
00:42:27And it's also very similar.
00:42:29There's the Southpaws.
00:42:30Sabonis, of course, his father, one of the great players in the history of the game of basketball.
00:42:35Arvidas Sabonis, great passer.
00:42:40Lakers have made five out of six.
00:42:43Remember when they were over six?
00:42:45They turned it completely around in the second quarter.
00:42:48See how the Kings have changed their defensive strategy with Austin?
00:42:51They're not making sure that secondary defender is in the right place.
00:42:55And Austin's getting to the paint at will.
00:42:58Back to the free-flow line to shoot two with 4.22 left here in the first half.
00:43:03And the Lakers down 50-49.
00:43:07Highlight finally.
00:43:08Yeah, on DeAndre Aiden.
00:43:09He's had himself a real nice first half.
00:43:11I talked about the matchup with him and Sabonis.
00:43:14Well, it's been all DeAndre.
00:43:16He's done a real good job on both ends of the floor.
00:43:20It just seems like he has more than seven points because he's been very effective in what he's been doing.
00:43:27Two rebounds, two assists.
00:43:28But more importantly, not letting Sabonis just dominate the middle.
00:43:34Big load on his shoulders this year.
00:43:37Everybody kept saying, boy, if the Lakers just had a big...
00:43:40All right.
00:43:41So Aiden kind of fell in their lap.
00:43:43And they put all the chips to the center with him.
00:43:49Of course, Jackson Hayes.
00:43:51He played a good portion.
00:43:52Played all of last year, of course.
00:43:53And didn't see a lot late in the season.
00:43:56He will be back.
00:43:57Just missing tonight.
00:43:59He doesn't appear to be serious.
00:44:00That's his injury.
00:44:06All right.
00:44:06Austin Arena is shooting, too.
00:44:07Hey, Lakers fans, don't miss a beat this season.
00:44:10Put the Lakeshell right at your fingertips with the official Lakers app.
00:44:13This is your chance at exclusive sweepstakes and everything else other fans are missing out on.
00:44:18So download it for free right now.
00:44:23That makes a bonus with three fouls and three rebounds in 13 minutes.
00:44:28And he's out of the game.
00:44:31Austin Reeves, 16 points, 14 minutes for the Lakers.
00:44:36And the beat goes on for him.
00:44:38Shooter pull-off.
00:44:40Right at the free throw.
00:44:40All right.
00:44:41Yes!
00:44:42Nice arc on that.
00:44:43That's what created that opportunity.
00:44:45That was a flat shot.
00:44:46Probably would have hit the rim and bounced right back to DeAndre.
00:44:50Shooter, 13th year in the league.
00:44:53For turnovers into his first two games this season.
00:44:57That's what he's got to clean up.
00:44:58Reeves feeling it right now.
00:45:00Into the corner of Vando.
00:45:01And he will shoot that in the corner.
00:45:04You know that.
00:45:05They got a kickball there.
00:45:06It helps the Lakers because the shot clock was down to about four.
00:45:10So they get an extra ten.
00:45:12Remember, stick around at the half.
00:45:13We're going to send you back down to the studio in El Segundo for the halftime report.
00:45:21Vincent.
00:45:23Hit our first regular season game here on Spectrum Sportsnet.
00:45:27Plenty more to come.
00:45:28On the floor.
00:45:29It's picked up by Levin.
00:45:31Got it all the way.
00:45:32Blocked by Aiden from behind.
00:45:36Hustle by DeAndre.
00:45:37Yes, yes.
00:45:39A lot of times, players, especially bigs, after a turnover like that, they don't hustle back.
00:45:44But DeAndre did a great job of getting back into the play and making a defensive play on the shot by Zach LaVine.
00:45:51Like he said, without fouling, too.
00:45:53Corner.
00:45:54Screen music by Malik Monk.
00:45:5876 games with the Lakers in 21-22.
00:46:0124, 20-point games last season.
00:46:08Oh, could the offensive.
00:46:09We're going to call it block, but yeah.
00:46:12We'll look at that again.
00:46:13Austin did a good job of using their left shoulder.
00:46:16That's some of Austin's own medicine.
00:46:18Falling down and drawing the foul.
00:46:21He goes in, and you can see, he used that left shoulder.
00:46:24That could have easily gone the other way.
00:46:27Very easily.
00:46:28Yeah, I think he did extend the arm a little bit, but the Lakers fortunate to have Reeves go on the free throw line.
00:46:37Well, Austin back to the free throw line where he's been five times and he's made them all.
00:46:43Lakers have shot 17 free throws to just five for Sacramento.
00:46:49How about this right now from Nissan?
00:46:51This Lakers broadcast is brought to you by the Nissan Rogue.
00:46:55Shop NissanUSA.com.
00:46:58Last game against Minnesota, they shot 11 more free throws than the Wolves.
00:47:05The usual suspect scored for Minnesota in that game against the Lakers.
00:47:09Rudy Gobert did not have a monster game, and that's one of the reasons why the Lakers won so easily.
00:47:16They play keep away.
00:47:20All the way put up.
00:47:21Oh, not even.
00:47:22Take it out by Reeves.
00:47:26Reeves.
00:47:27Look at him getting to the rim left-handed.
00:47:29Following it up is John Dre Aiden.
00:47:32I just like to hustle by Aiden.
00:47:34I mean, he could have raised and stayed down.
00:47:36A lot of times when you have a transitional play like that, the defense or the center will stay back a little bit
00:47:42and make sure there's no quick hoops, but that time Aiden just ran the floor and gets the hoops.
00:47:48By the way, by the usual players scoring for Minnesota, that's Julius and Ant-Man.
00:47:54They got theirs, certainly.
00:47:55A good win for the Lakers at home.
00:47:58Bounce back win.
00:48:01Oh, God damn it!
00:48:01They're trying to get in, and they do.
00:48:05In the midst of a big traffic jam.
00:48:07And Malik is very creative.
00:48:10Complaining that he didn't get an and one.
00:48:12Bench points are now 18-9.
00:48:15Sacramento.
00:48:16A little baseline cutoff there.
00:48:18Offensive Packers.
00:48:19Well, they had that right-wing side in that corner.
00:48:21Packed with players.
00:48:22Yeah, the spacing was not good.
00:48:24Not good at all.
00:48:25Three players were in the same area.
00:48:26All that does is bring three defensive players and cuts down your ability to move.
00:48:31Well, this is not a good sign.
00:48:33Evando's been on the floor, what, 12 minutes?
00:48:35Has three fouls himself.
00:48:37Yeah, only 218 to go in the half, so he's done for this half.
00:48:40Yes, he is.
00:48:41But again, it's his aggression defensively that helps put the Lakers in a position they're in.
00:48:46So a bit of a revolving door, remember.
00:48:49And that's how he's to rotate in and out.
00:48:51Again, if you just joined us, no Luka, no LeBron, no Jackson Hayes.
00:48:56Luka out for about a week.
00:48:58Now if it goes, it doesn't go for A.R.
00:49:02More free throws for Reeves.
00:49:03You know, notice that, you know, since that first quarter, I haven't seen or heard of it from Rui quite as much.
00:49:13You know, it's back to not being involved in the offense as much.
00:49:17He's got to continue to, you know, demand the ball in certain positions and just be aggressive.
00:49:22He is one of two Lakers in double figures, but as you mentioned, it all came in the first few.
00:49:27He has 10, 19 now for Austin.
00:49:32He has one three tonight, which means he's just three threes away from becoming the ninth player in Laker history to hit 500 threes in a Laker uniform.
00:49:43A little bit more on Austin and Michael Trudell.
00:49:49Yeah, Billy, perhaps lost at least a little in Austin's start with the fact that Luka Doncic, of course, going crazy 40-plus in both games.
00:49:57Well, how about Austin averaging 26 coming in?
00:50:00Yeah.
00:50:00And he's about to get there in the half.
00:50:01So the Lakers were super convinced Austin was going to have no problem carrying the load as he has here.
00:50:08Oh, with a whistle for a foul here.
00:50:09But, you know, that's something he's now shown any time, whether it was LeBron sitting or Luka sitting or in the past Anthony Davis sitting,
00:50:16he has been able to increase his usage without losing the efficiency.
00:50:20So really a terrific offensive player continues to get better.
00:50:23You know what, Mike?
00:50:23No matter what the situation, he's getting 20 a game.
00:50:26I mean, including the preseason.
00:50:27He has 20-plus points in five of the six games the Lakers have played this year.
00:50:32Now it's around the cylinder, which means it's going to be good.
00:50:34Well, it's no offensive interference.
00:50:36Offensive interference, I mean.
00:50:36Cardwell.
00:50:37Excuse me.
00:50:37Tried to dunk it, but then he hung on to the rim with both hands, and that's a violation.
00:50:46A lot of turnovers for these two teams, by the way.
00:50:50Aighton going straight down the middle.
00:50:52Trying to get to the rim.
00:50:54Throws it up and throws it in with a super soft touch.
00:50:58And the big fella's got nine here in the first half on a four for five shooting evening.
00:51:03A minute 20 to play in the first half.
00:51:06Lakers on an 8-2 current run.
00:51:09Demar corner.
00:51:10Well, there's a three for you.
00:51:12Yeah, he'll take that short corner three more than he'll take that top of the key area.
00:51:18Sacramento has made nine triples.
00:51:22Aighton nearly traveled.
00:51:23Did not, though.
00:51:24And he gets the bucket.
00:51:26Yeah, when he caught the ball, he was looking to pass.
00:51:28You always catch looking to score.
00:51:29When they take that away, then you pass.
00:51:3113 lead changes.
00:51:34Almost all of them here in this quarter.
00:51:37It's been back and forth.
00:51:3961-60.
00:51:41Green's who has 13 in the quarter.
00:51:43Jake in the corner can't hit it.
00:51:46Six foot seven.
00:51:48Jake LaRavia.
00:51:50Monk.
00:51:54Schroeder.
00:51:55Half a minute to go.
00:51:57Schroeder short.
00:51:57So the Lakers now with the shot clock five up on the game.
00:52:04Don't work it down.
00:52:06Lakers shooting now 54%.
00:52:11So two straight games over 50%.
00:52:14Got a whistle.
00:52:16Illegal D.
00:52:18That's a free throw.
00:52:19And you know Austin is racing to the line to take it.
00:52:22Or you would think.
00:52:23The shot clock was down to seven.
00:52:29So now the shot clock will be off after the illegal D.
00:52:33So the Lakers will get a free throw.
00:52:34And then they can definitely work for the last shot.
00:52:3921 first half points.
00:52:42So the key to that, though, is on nine shots.
00:52:44Or is it 19?
00:52:46It's 21.
00:52:47It should be.
00:52:47Yeah.
00:52:4821 on nine shots.
00:52:49You know what they need to do?
00:52:49They need to update.
00:52:50No, they need to feed your hamsters.
00:52:52I waited for you.
00:52:54I waited for you to get back.
00:52:57Oh, turnover.
00:52:59Schroeder dunk it.
00:53:01And you know Ravine can get up.
00:53:04One of the all-time great dunkers.
00:53:07What a turnaround right there.
00:53:09Lakers had it all going for them at the other end.
00:53:12Here's Reeves.
00:53:13Austin pull up.
00:53:15Short and a half is over.
00:53:17And it ends.
00:53:18How about that?
00:53:19At a 62 all-time.
00:53:21Both teams putting the ball in the hoop on a regular basis.
00:53:26One of these two teams are going to have to get some stops.
00:53:30Time to take a break.
00:53:32Nodded up at 62.
00:53:33A reminder to stay tuned.
00:53:35We're going to send you to the Access Sportsnet studio.
00:53:37Studio, rather, for the drug-in-the-box halftime report.
00:53:40Sacramento, California, where the Lakers and the Kings nodded at 62.
00:53:46Time to revisit the Lexus keys to the game.
00:53:51And I said make 10, 10 threes.
00:53:55Well, they only need eight more.
00:53:56They only made two in the first half.
00:53:58The matchup in the middle, I was so interested to see.
00:54:01Well, Aiton is, in my estimation, really dominated that matchup.
00:54:05And the bench contributions, 18 to 9.
00:54:08Russell Westbrook has outscored the Lakers bench by himself.
00:54:12Come on.
00:54:13He's got 11.
00:54:15And the Laker bench has nine.
00:54:17Mike Trudell, what did the Laker coaching staff have to say?
00:54:20Yeah, Sue, cut off with Nate McMillan.
00:54:22And the one thing the Lakers did like,
00:54:24they were able to attack the paint with regularity
00:54:26and get to the free-throw line.
00:54:28Those are things that they should be able to continue to do.
00:54:31You know, Sacramento, not a lot of rim protection.
00:54:33So they just have to be patient, keep getting downhill.
00:54:35And they did that pretty well in the first half.
00:54:37Now, it would help, Sue, your first key.
00:54:38If they hit some threes, they did a free-out of that.
00:54:41But then defensively, it felt like they could have done a better job
00:54:43of staying behind the basketball.
00:54:45Sacramento did leak out too often.
00:54:47I took advantage of some turnovers, especially live ball turnovers.
00:54:51And when they get set in the half court with the Lakers defense,
00:54:53especially with how Aiden was playing, they were fine.
00:54:55Just got to make sure they're not giving them that space that they were.
00:54:58And here's Gabe firing a three, Mike, to start the half.
00:55:01And you mentioned it when we hit each other at halftime.
00:55:04And Stu just got to hit more threes.
00:55:07He's got to do it if you're going to win this game.
00:55:09It's the way the NBA is.
00:55:10You can't win game shooting 16 to 18% from three-point land.
00:55:15Reeves on the outside against Sabonis has done basically nothing.
00:55:20And Aiden certainly has answered on the other end.
00:55:23And Reeves picks up yet another assist.
00:55:25See how Rui starts this second half.
00:55:27He had 10 points in the first quarter.
00:55:29Rui did.
00:55:30Only took one shot in the second quarter.
00:55:32The steal, the shovel, the slam.
00:55:35Well, I'll tell you, Aiden is running the floor very well.
00:55:37He's getting up and down the court.
00:55:44Schroeder.
00:55:48Reeves has seven assists on the night and keeps going.
00:55:52Who knows?
00:55:52Could be a triple-double carat category.
00:55:54DeRozan goes in and out.
00:55:56Tick it out by Marcus Smart.
00:55:57He has Smart, Reeves, Rui, Aiden, and Gabe on the floor for the Lakeshaw.
00:56:06Reeves trying to get towards the goal.
00:56:09It was kind of a prayer shot that time, falling back.
00:56:12It was one of his more under-control efforts.
00:56:16Now Schroeder on the outside.
00:56:18That's a set shot for three.
00:56:19And it settles in.
00:56:21Well, where the Lakers have made two three-pointers, that's number 10.
00:56:26For the Kings.
00:56:29Last year, they were a little past middle of the pack in three-point percentage.
00:56:34Sacramento, 19th to be exact.
00:56:38Reeves runs into DeRozan.
00:56:41Now it's Rui.
00:56:42I've got to shoot it with three, with two.
00:56:44Rui underneath.
00:56:45And with 1.5 on the clock, he draws a foul.
00:56:51Kind of like it when Reeves plays that kind of defense.
00:56:54He's read the defense or the pass very well.
00:56:57Running the floor was Aiden.
00:56:59Easy deucelate.
00:57:00Austin Reeves again, setting it up with the steal.
00:57:02Put in the quick dish.
00:57:05Keon Ellis, four personal fouls for the Kings.
00:57:09And he will say goodbye to the floor.
00:57:11Right now, he'll go to the bench and be replaced by Malik Monk.
00:57:14This Laker team swept Sacramento last season.
00:57:19Sacramento has had some success against the Lakers only in recent years.
00:57:23Remember, they had that long, long, what was it, 18-year playoff drought that they finally
00:57:29snapped a couple of years ago.
00:57:3216, 18 is a lot.
00:57:35One of those.
00:57:36Yeah, Rui scratches it with two free throws there, so Lakers go back up by three.
00:57:41And Schroeder will bring it in the attacking zone.
00:57:46Schroeder playing a little keep away with Levine.
00:57:51Leave on the outside for the Sacramento Kings team.
00:57:55Schroeder is confronted by a double team at the base.
00:57:57Now six to shoot.
00:57:59Schroeder over smart.
00:58:00He was kind of draped all over him that time.
00:58:02Now Marcus will bring it in to the front court.
00:58:07Reeves, clearly the leader of this group tonight.
00:58:11He'll lean in.
00:58:12We're looking to draw the foul, and that time didn't get it.
00:58:14Can't complain.
00:58:15Got to get back.
00:58:16Here comes Sabonis.
00:58:17You can complain, but you got to do it when it did.
00:58:19Oh, I'm saying get back.
00:58:22Look at this.
00:58:22Saved that time by Rui.
00:58:24He made sure that the Lakers are going to get control of it.
00:58:28Smart.
00:58:29One way, then the other.
00:58:30That time he'll get the foul.
00:58:32Boy, the veteran presence that time of Marcus Smart.
00:58:38Veteran against veteran is Dennis Schroeder.
00:58:41Call for the foul.
00:58:43Marcus to the line to shoot a pair.
00:58:47Whether you love the stat or you hate the stat,
00:58:50he led the Lakers in plus-minus the first two games.
00:58:54He seemed to like it.
00:58:55He says, hey, you can contribute in a lot of other ways,
00:58:57and that is obviously the truth other than scoring the basketball.
00:59:02He has been out there when good things have happened.
00:59:05Hey, how about this right now from Kia?
00:59:09Keep on rockin' me, baby.
00:59:12Got to keep on rockin'.
00:59:13And from Steve Miller, or a Steve Miller cover.
00:59:22Back here to the Golden 1 center.
00:59:25All right, Mike, it's your turn about Marcus Smart.
00:59:28Billy, just to quickly add on to your point,
00:59:30he's moving great physically.
00:59:31That was one of the main things after those injured two seasons that he had,
00:59:34and that's the first thing that stands out about these couple games here.
00:59:37Yeah.
00:59:37It's the attitude, it's the effort, it's the energy, it's the toughness.
00:59:41And as you mentioned, healthy.
00:59:42Being able to move in the corner.
00:59:44They hit yet another three.
00:59:46It's an onslaught of threes compared to what the Lakers are doing.
00:59:49It's 11-2, Stu, in that category.
00:59:5311-2, Lakers are making it up at the free-for-line.
00:59:56The Lakers are up by two.
00:59:59Rule, and a need!
01:00:00That's a strong...
