A 20-year-old man is in custody after allegedly calling 911 to report that he had killed his mother following a domestic dispute, authorities say.
Sebastian Van Stockum, 20, from New Canaan, has been charged with murder and is being held on a $2 million bond.
The incident occurred Friday around 10:36 p.m. when New Canaan police were called to the area of South Avenue and Gerdes Road after hearing reports of a man shouting from the woods. As officers were on their way, a 911 call came in from a man at a nearby Gerdes Road residence, claiming he had murdered his mother.
Police quickly established probable cause and identified Van Stockum as the suspect. The victim was found dead at the scene, though her identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.
Authorities have stated that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Further details are yet to be released.
The investigation is ongoing, with the Connecticut State Police offering assistance.
