00:00A rat infestation is impacting almond orchards in California, where 80 percent of the world's
00:05supply are grown. A survey from the California Department of Food and Agriculture found the
00:12infestation is impacting more than 100,000 acres across four counties. In several areas,
00:19monitoring found up to 32 rats per night in some locations. The rats have reportedly caused issues
00:25from direct damage to the trees to having to replace farm machinery. The cost of the damages
00:30range between $110 to $310 million. Despite that, it's unclear if the cost of almonds will go up for
00:37Americans. Much of the almonds grown in California are exported, including to China, meaning the
00:43industry has already had a tough year due to the ongoing trade war. The Almond Board of California
00:49is now working with the California Association of Pest Control Advisors to help get the situation
00:54under control. For Straight Arrow News, I'm Kaylee Carey. For more unbiased,
