00:00Some vaccine mandates in Florida are set to end in 90 days,
00:04and the announcement is making waves across the nation.
00:08The state Surgeon General Joseph Latipo, backed by Governor Ron DeSantis,
00:13said parents and children will have control over vaccine decisions, not the government.
00:18But officials emphasize vaccines will still be available for those who want them.
00:24Schoolchildren will still have to be immunized for diseases like measles and polio,
00:28at least for now. The move has drawn reactions from Washington,
00:32including President Donald Trump, who called for caution.
00:36Look, you have vaccines that work. They're just pure and simple work. They're not controversial
00:40at all. And I think those vaccines should be used. Otherwise, some people are going to catch it and
00:45they endanger other people. He highlighted vaccines like for polio and COVID-19, calling many amazing
00:52and urging their use to protect others. Latipo called mandates wrong and immoral,
00:58but acknowledged on CNN that he hasn't studied the public safety impacts.
01:03There are no new special, you know, special procedures that need to be made.
01:07Florida officials told the Associated Press that vaccine requirements for schoolchildren,
01:11including chickenpox, hepatitis B and meningitis, will remain in effect until lawmakers consider
01:17changes. Religious and medical exemptions still apply and schools must maintain and transfer records
01:23as required. Lawmakers return for the next session in January of 2026, but committees are already
01:30meeting and bills are being submitted ahead of time. Read the full story right now in the
