00:00While the federal government shutdown is getting most of the national attention,
00:04strategically placed baseball hats are sparking controversy.
00:08The hats simply state in big, bold letters, Trump 2028.
00:12But it's where and when they were seen that is sparking more back and forth
00:16between the president and top Democrats.
00:21During a meeting with Democratic leaders this week about the shutdown,
00:24the hats, emblazoned with Trump 2028, were prominent in photos from the president's meeting
00:30with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
00:35Later in a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump appeared to be enjoying the moment and the dig,
00:40as a picture shows the president smirking and pointing at Jeffries.
00:44Jeffries told CNN that contrary to some reports,
00:48Trump did not offer the hats to the Democratic leaders.
00:51Instead, they just appeared to be a political prop.
00:54Well, actually, he did not try to hand Leader Schumer and I the Trump 2028 hat.
00:59They just randomly appeared in the middle of the meeting on the desk.
01:03It was the strangest thing ever.
01:05And I just looked at the hat, looked at J.D. Vance, who was seated to my left and said,
01:10don't you got a problem with this?
01:13And he said, no comment.
01:14And that was the end of it.
01:16The 22nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution forbids Donald Trump from seeking a third term.
01:21Section 1 of the amendment states,
01:24no person shall be elected to the office of president more than twice.
01:28That has not stopped Trump from making other references to possibly finding a way to seek re-election three years from now.
01:34However, last month he told CNBC he would like to run, but probably would not.
