00:00Can you take us what Volpe is going through in his journey to get back to the field?
00:06We'll start with the surgery.
00:07What's that process like for both the player and you, the surgeon?
00:12When he had that dive a few months ago, or when it was, he dislocated or partially dislocated his shoulder.
00:19So the ball of the ball and cup in the shoulder juts forward and tears some tissue in the front called a labrum,
00:26which helps keep that ball in place.
00:28So with that surgery is something called all arthroscopic or minimally invasive done with the camera.
00:34We take little sutures, we put it around that torn tissue and tie it back to the bone.
00:39That way it holds the shoulder better, helps with pain, helps with motion, and ultimately helps them get back to playing.
00:46What's the surgery and rehab process like for a non-pro athlete?
00:50If you're not a pro athlete, a lot of people can do pretty well with just physical therapy.
00:55So just to be clear, not everyone needs that surgery.
00:57And then the rehab process would mostly be the same, except if you're not an overhead athlete,
01:02I tell most people you can get back to sports by like four and a half months, maybe five,
01:07as opposed to like sixes, which I would make someone who's an overhead thrower wait for.
