00:00We got our first official unofficial look at the new New York Knicks and head coach Mike Brown they

00:05just wrapped up their preseason game out in Abu Dhabi against the 76ers I'm bringing in our very

00:11own New York Post sports host and of course the man behind New York's guy game Dexter Henry for

00:17his immediate reaction and of course his takeaways go New York go New York go I'm in week five

00:24football mode Dexter you're in season right now but preseason but still you're back in season what's

00:30going on my man I'm good man it's good good to have basketball back I know it's not the real

00:34basketball you know I know some people get excited about the preseason football like you some people

00:39get excited about the preseason basketball but look it's always good to have basketball back and uh

00:44you know it's not the real thing but I'll take it for that yeah I got too excited about Giants

00:48preseason football but I digress right now because we're talking basketball you're the floor is yours

00:53Dex take it away key takeaways from today's game yeah well look this is a 99-84 win uh for the Knicks

01:01in their preseason game and listen when you talk about preseason you know unless you're just this

01:06basketball junkie which I say that I am but you're not really looking at wins and losses here you're

01:10looking at how guys play you're looking at what rotations are going to look like and I think coming

01:16into this game for a lot of Knicks fans particularly because this is a new head coach and Mike Brown

01:20because there have been some additions to the bench I think that's a lot of what you wanted to see and

01:24what you were looking for and look there were some good things in this game it was interesting you saw

01:29the Knicks trying to play with pace you could see how the offense looks vastly different than what it

01:33did under Tom Thibodeau you saw the effort concerted effort to push the ball to get ahead to look for

01:38guys streaking down the court in terms of leak out so I really liked what you saw with that I think

01:43another standout for me was how Carlton Towns was utilized in this one not just as a scorer but

01:49also as a passer you know he did finish in double digits scoring but you saw a couple of times where

01:54he made some good dishes he found some guys even though they didn't hit shots he was good Mitchell

01:59Robinson is the standout in this game Mitchell Robinson had 16 rebounds in this game on the

02:04first half they're not playing the second half Mitchell Robinson was a menace on the boards he

02:08looked to be moving well even better than we saw him in the playoffs he looked to be very well

02:12conditioned I think that is huge for the Knicks and we also saw the starting lineup of the double

02:17bigs Mike Brown went and started Mitchell Robinson with Carlton Towns Miles McBride did not get to

02:22start with some Knicks fans have been calling for but Miles McBride another standout in this game

02:26played very well looked to be very confident was in his bag knocked down a couple of threes and I

02:32think Miles McBride also just like Mitchell Robinson he's healthy dealt with some hamstring issues last

02:36year but I think now he's healthy he looks really confident in this offense and I think those are my two

02:42three biggest takeaways Kat how he looked and how he utilized his big men at the past Mitchell Robinson

02:47and his prowess on the glass and then Houston McBride was fantastic shooting the ball and looked

02:52to be very very confident I think that's a good sign for the Knicks the breaking news coming out of this

02:56one was how Josh Hart went down with an injury but he was also ejected as well as long as it's not a

03:03long-term injury this could actually be a good thing Dex because Mike Brown has said he's going to use a

03:09deeper rotation and use guys more off the bench a lot of guys who got big minutes this game were

03:14exactly those type of guys so anyone stand out to you on that end and if they lose a key contributor

03:21like a Josh Hart do you think this team this roster is built to replace that player's production

03:27listen to take the last part of your question it's going to be hard to replace a Josh Hart I mean

03:33no pun intended or pun intended he is the heart and soul of this team he is the life bug energy spark of

03:39this team and we know what he can do for the Knicks now he's been dealing with a finger injury that he

03:43re-aggravated he said he was likely he's going to have to wear a splint this season but see him go

03:49down look like he tweaked his back when he fell he slipped and fell that was hard we don't have any

03:54reports on that yet so we'll see hopefully it's not a bad injury back injuries are tough when you

04:00talk to players about this in any sport back injuries are really tough so hopefully he just tweaked

04:04something he'll rest and he'll be fine I would assume he will not play in an exact game in Abu Dhabi

04:10on Saturday and that he will just rest until they come back to New York and get ready for the game

04:15their preseason third game which is against the Timberwolves next Thursday so but in terms of who

04:20else played that I thought you know maybe could have played better or done better than that I think

04:26one thing you should know in this game is OG Ananobi he did not play as he was injured so he was out for

04:32this game and Pacom Dottie Nick's second year forward got some minutes he got the start actually

04:37I thought that was telling that Mike Brown started him instead of Josh Hart and then we saw the double

04:43big lineup so it makes you wonder will Mike Brown keep Josh Hart off the bench which is actually a

04:48move I think that he should do I think Josh Hart can really spark that second unit so I was

04:52disappointed I didn't get to see more of Josh Hart with that second unit today but I think that was

04:56telling now Pacom Dottie in terms of his minutes I was slightly disappointed and the reason I say

05:01slightly is I thought he started off the game pretty well he gave some good energy he got some

05:06boards he had a nice and one early in the first quarter then kind of faded as the game went along

05:11didn't hit some open shots he did have some good looks and I think that's the key for him in terms

05:15of staying on the floor and possibly cracking his 10-man rotation if Mike Brown goes to that he's

05:20going to have to hit the open shots what I did like for him is he looked active on defense he moved low

05:25without the ball and he was grabbing some boards would like to still see a little bit more for him but I

05:29love that he got a shot I think it was huge for him and I'm very intrigued to see what he does

05:33with the rest of his minutes in the preseason all right again I know this is only the first game

05:38I'm not going to crown these guys NBA champions just yet but let's say this was like a dating app

05:44are you swiping right are you swiping left on your first impression of the New York Knicks the 2025

05:51New York Knicks yo I got to use that Brandon that's good you got to ask set up the question ask people

05:56is it like a dating app are you gonna swipe right or swipe left I haven't been on any of those so I

06:01don't know what that's like but for those me neither me neither so so swiping left is bad right

06:06that's when you move on to the next yeah just like nah you don't act like you don't know a swipe left

06:10swipe right I know I don't know nothing about that life bro okay about that life I don't but

06:16probably get me in trouble out here no no no sir but I would swipe right okay because I think there

06:22were things that you could like about what you saw Brandon today and particularly I think again

06:27first case of offense this was not the crispest looking Knicks offense but you saw the movement

06:32you could see the vision for what was going on I thought you even saw guys like Jalen Brunson when

06:37he got in the paint actively looking for guys you know cutting on the baseline whether that was

06:42Mitchell Robinson in the dunker spot I saw currently towns there was one play that stood out to me in

06:46the first quarter he drove from the left above the break three and then he drove in and he got

06:52double teamed and he immediately had a great pass which he found for home Jadier in the corner he

06:56didn't hit the three but just the fact that cat was looking for that it tells you the mindset of

07:01the guys in this offense the guys are moving around you're looking for other guys they want to move

07:05the ball more they don't want it to be stagnant the shots will fall I don't think this Knicks offense

07:10as I said was a crispest it wasn't the most beautiful off you see this is also preseason game one

07:14at Brandon as you just alluded to but I think there's things that should make you say okay

07:19I want to see more of this from the Knicks I might be interested in continuing this dating process

07:25between the Knicks fans and the Knicks that should be interesting I thought Mikel Bridges

07:29had some good things defensively he struggled with his above the break three so he missed both of those

07:35in the first quarter didn't look really good you like to see him start hitting those but he did attack

07:40the rim a couple of times which I thought was very encouraging for me I've talked a lot about him

07:44now he needs to attack the rim as a playmaker and also try to get to the line so there's some good

07:49things from this Knicks offense uh Mitchell Robinson as I mentioned Miles McBride as I mentioned other

07:54guys will come along as they are comfortable but they look like guys playing in a new offense but

07:59they looked a little bit attractive so you might want to so so the 2025 Knicks just went from having

08:06just drinks with Dexter to something more formal the way you're gonna take him out to dinner now

08:12you're gonna pick up the tab I like it hey I mean I hey I hope you're a guy so I already looked at

08:17like we're in a long-term relationship you know what I mean like we're we're already here we're

08:21already doing this but I think if you're a Knicks fan that was kind of on the fence about it which is

08:24why I like the question Brandon um I think there are things you can look at and be excited about you

08:29should want to see more you should proceed with caution you don't want to go all in but I think there

08:34are things you'd like to see more and I think there were some good things and more we'll see from Mike

08:38Brown so how we distribute some minutes in game two and who plays and going forward that'll all

08:43be very interesting real quick Dex for people who may haven't seen it just yet promote got game
