00:00
A couple days off and on to the Broncos, Coach Payton.
00:08
Tremendous football team, four and two.
00:10
Just had a tough game overseas.
00:14
So I start with our defense, with Vance Joseph.
00:18
He's really playing incredible football right now.
00:22
Pressuring the quarterback.
00:24
First in the red zone, first and third down.
00:28
Play a variety of things with a lot of really good players.
00:33
Best defenses in the league.
00:35
Coached well.
00:37
They're tough to block.
00:39
They just held the team to under 90 yards offense.
00:41
So, tremendous challenge with that defense.
00:47
Coach Payton on the offensive side.
00:49
He's won a bunch of games in this league.
00:52
Really a good offense scheme.
00:56
Bo Nix has done a good job with him.
00:59
Four talented receivers.
01:01
Different tight end groupings.
01:03
Dobbins who can take it the distance.
01:05
Another rookie running back.
01:07
Productive.
01:08
Do a lot of different things.
01:10
Run wise.
01:11
Bootlegs.
01:12
Screens.
01:13
You name it, they have it.
01:15
And then Coach Rizzi.
01:19
New Jersey native.
01:20
Known him for a long time.
01:22
Veteran coaching staff.
01:25
Four and two at their place.
01:28
Be a good challenge.
01:30
In terms of injuries.
01:36
So, we'll see where Slay's at.
01:38
He may or may not do something today.
01:41
He's getting better.
01:42
He might be off to the side.
01:44
We'll see here in a few minutes.
01:46
Foles won't practice.
01:47
Bozeman won't practice.
01:48
JMS is in concussion protocol.
01:51
And we're going to open the window for Victor Demukeji.
01:58
You mentioned that Denver defense.
02:01
Have you ever seen an outing like they just had with the negative passing out?
02:07
They're impressive.
02:08
I mean, they're impressive every game.
02:12
They create a lot of negative plays.
02:14
They have 30 sacks in six games.
02:16
It was nine last week, I think.
02:18
But they rotate guys.
02:22
But Benito is an unbelievable pass rusher.
02:27
You can't have a plan for all of them.
02:29
They all can rush.
02:30
I think 12 guys have at least a sack on their defense.
02:33
We've got the reigning defensive player of the year.
02:35
That's a corner.
02:36
Sertan, Alabama guy.
02:38
They're just really good.
02:40
They play good coverage.
02:41
They complement it with the front.
02:43
They disguise well.
02:45
They're as good as it gets right now.
02:50
Denver really took advantage a week ago with a quarterback that was holding the ball a little longer.
02:57
And then they were able to get to him and bring him down a lot.
03:00
We've seen Jackson at different points hold the ball longer as well to give his guys time to get it down.
03:04
But against a defense like this, is there an added point of emphasis this week in practice to get the ball to your hands?
03:10
That this is maybe not necessarily a team that you can dance around with a little bit?
03:13
Yeah, I think you've got to play good team football all the way around.
03:16
Defense has got to complement the offense, special teams.
03:19
I mean, this is a team that's four and two for a reason.
03:22
Everybody's got to do their job, whether it's the quarterback, whether it's the interior part of the pocket,
03:27
whether it's the receivers getting open against tight press coverage against some really good corners.
03:31
It's going to take a total team effort.
03:35
But they're very productive, make a mistake.
03:37
They do that to a lot of teams.
03:38
I'd say that, watching the tape.
03:40
They're hard to block.
03:42
You have to do a good job of creating some positive plays.
03:47
You get in those bad situations.
03:49
They made every team they've played in those situations.
03:53
Not a lot of third down conversions.
03:55
And there's a lot of third and longs when you watch the tape.
03:58
There's not a lot of touchdowns in the red zone.
04:01
They play really good team defense.
04:04
Vance has done a great job for a long time.
04:07
Back in Miami, Arizona, we were out against them in Buffalo.
04:10
They're well coached.
04:13
They've got a lot of good players.
04:15
When they put you in bad situations, it's hard.
04:17
And then you're on the road with a loud environment.
04:20
We're going to have to play good team football all the way around.
04:23
You guys have scored a touchdown of three straight opening game possessions.
04:29
Which hasn't happened since 2009 for the Giants.
04:33
What do you attribute that to?
04:35
Because people make a lot about scripting the first X number of plays and whatnot.
04:40
What do you attribute the early game success, the early touchdown drive?
04:44
What do you attribute that to?
04:45
And how much of a difference has that made for you guys?
04:49
Yeah, you always want to get off to a fast start.
04:53
And the preparation that these guys put into it and the coaches, that's important.
04:56
You give a lot of credit to the players that are out there doing it and making plays.
05:00
I think last week we converted on a third and eight and third and 12 or somewhere around there.
05:05
Some of the other ones we haven't had many third downs.
05:08
They're third and one, third and two.
05:10
It's really 11 people doing their job at the level you need them to do your job at.
05:16
And that goes with any drive, I know it's the opening drive, but that really goes offensive football.
05:21
Any drive, you have 10 guys doing the right thing and one guy not.
05:24
It could be a recipe for a very bad play.
05:26
So we're just focused on trying to do our job the best we can.
05:30
Take the energy around the team like Jackson, outside the building.
05:34
You know, inserting Jackson.
05:36
I'm sorry, where with the building?
05:38
The energy around the team from outside the building.
05:40
Outside the building.
05:41
Yeah.
05:42
With Jackson as a starter winning two of the last three games.
05:44
What have you seen from the guys the last few days inside the building?
05:49
Business as usual.
05:50
You know, we have a very tough team to get prepared for.
05:53
Look, you only have a certain amount of time and nothing really changes, Jordan,
05:58
relative to preparing for a team.
06:02
You know, meeting wise, film study, walkthroughs.
06:07
You know, we adjust here and there whether we want to do some more red zone today or third down or do this.
06:12
But focused and, you know, we've got a big challenge ahead of us.
06:17
And all these guys are doing everything they can do to put themselves in a good position for Sunday.
06:22
Dave, if you've got JMS in protocol, if Schloffman has to play, you know, how confident are you in him?
06:30
And what did you see from him last week when he had to step in?
06:33
Yeah, confident in all the guys we have.
06:34
That's why they're here.
06:35
So he did, you know, what he needed to do, which was come in and operate at center for us and did a nice job.
06:42
So he'll get all the reps today.
06:44
Last one.
06:45
He's in the protocol.
06:48
He's in the protocol, so that's where he's at.
06:54
Is Russell still your backup quarterback?
06:56
Yep.
06:57
Why?
06:58
Because he's our backup quarterback.
