We'll have Mike Tomlin here today. We always have him Friday, too, with our weekly words
00:07
of wisdom. But here he is today, Scottie, giving you his thoughts, very impressive thoughts
00:12
on Washington rookie quarterback Jaden Daniels.
00:15
His prudent ability to maintain possession of the ball, to be a young guy, to extend
00:23
plays, to do the things that come with extending plays. Oftentimes, play extensions means more
00:29
variance in terms of outcome of play, sometimes good, sometimes bad. He's been able to extract
00:35
the good from those moments by minimizing the bad. And I just think that it speaks to
00:39
his, his savvy and his experience. And I say experience because, you know, rookie quarterbacks
00:46
come at you in a variety of forms, man. This guy has been a franchise quarterback for two
00:51
different universities. He brings experience in a way that Bo Nix does. All rookie quarterbacks
00:57
aren't the same. Some guys come with a lot of experience. Some guys come as, as guys
01:03
with upside, man, and talent. And so I can't say that I'm completely shocked by some of
01:08
the things he's done because he had an extended body of work in, in, in college at two different
01:15
universities.
01:16
Look, there's no doubt that Daniels has been great, but let's calm down here. So the Steelers
01:23
are six and two, the commanders are seven and two, the Steelers had a buy. So they're
01:30
basically the same team. And the Steelers have every chance in the world to win this
01:35
game if they get to him. Now, nobody's been able to get to him and do anything to him.
01:43
And I don't think they faced anything quite like what they're going to see on Sunday in
01:47
terms of a pass rush. I think this guy for the first time ever in his career is going
01:54
to be seeing something he hasn't seen. And remember this Tomlin's 25 and what? Six, 25
02:01
and six against rookies. It don't matter. Yeah. I played college football. He beats
02:06
rookie quarterbacks. He will send the kitchen sink at this guy and they're going to try
02:12
to take his head off. That's how Pittsburgh used to play back in the day. I mean, let's
02:16
just get real here to steal curtain. You go in, you take the quarterback's head off, you
02:20
win the game. If you scare the quarterback and you put him down a few times and rake
02:26
him and hurt him and hit him hard and let him know what you're made of, it'll change
02:32
the whole day. I think they have a legitimate shot to get to him and to beat them in the
02:38
dump. I really do. The Steelers mean business. Now, I know everyone I've seen. I saw today
02:44
more people say Baltimore and the lions in the super bowl. And then everything else was
02:50
Kansas city and the lines, nothing else. I think, um, I legitimately, and I, you've done
02:58
the show with me for a long time. You've never actually heard me say, Pittsburgh's going
03:03
to the super bowl again. Like since you and I have done this for like 10 or more years,
03:08
you've never heard me say they're going to the super bowl because the last, you know,
03:12
two that I've won, we got six, it was before you. And so I legitimately think Pittsburgh
03:18
with their team, if they get it together, they've already gotten the offense together.
03:24
The defense has already been together. They're really good. If they're healthy and that Russell
03:29
Wilson can spread that ball around and they can get nausea going to buck a game from now
03:34
until January, I think the Steelers go to the super bowl from the AFC. And then, uh,
03:41
they're going to knock somebody off and you're going to, you're going to, you're not going
03:43
to know what hit you. I mean, look, if you have a great defense and a great pass rush,
03:48
you beat anybody, you can beat anybody. And you know, Kansas city went to Baltimore last
03:54
year in the AFC title game and they beat them with defense, 17, 10. They beat him with defense.
04:00
Defense wins championships. If Pittsburgh plays like they're capable of defensively,
04:04
which they will, it's offense that I'm worried about. Can they score? And if they get the
04:09
offense going with passing and rushing and score 30 a game, the Steelers are going to the super
04:13
bowl and it's not going to be Baltimore and it's not going to be, uh, Kansas city anymore.
04:19
And everyone thinks Kansas city is so automatic. They're going down hard. They keep winning all
04:24
these close games by an inch. And over time they get every coin flip and everything else.
04:28
Guess what? They don't play those rules in the playoffs. Those get the ball first and go down
04:34
and score that that's not happening. Is it Mike? Uh, no, it doesn't play to the death in the playoffs.
