00:00It's important to emphasize the difference between the openings and even

00:07many middle games positions where you can make choices based on your preference,

00:12on your style. With end games where you have to be very precise. It's one move

00:17that can make all the difference. There's no room for tasty moves, for something

00:23that you like or you don't like. This is the rule. You have to follow this rule

00:26and you have to make sure that you apply these rules accordingly in every

00:31situation. So another rule is an opposition. So that opposition is simple

00:37when you have two kings facing each other and as we know that when there's a king

00:44and a pawn versus against king and a pawn, opposition is a decisive factor. So

00:50everybody knows that's the classic. That's the only move for black to save the

00:56game is to go back to g8, king f6 and king f8, keeping the opposition. But even if

01:04you know this rule, you have to be quite precise in applying this rule. Now if we

01:10look at the position with white king on f1, pawn on g2, black king on c8, pawn on h5.

01:17It couldn't be simpler. But it's a very tricky maneuver to secure victory for white.

01:26King f2 was threatening to attack the pawn, king g3 and king h4 to win the pawn and to win the game.

01:34Black goes h4 and now we have to do something that goes against common sense. Because you want to go

01:43king f3, but then black plays h3. And of course we know that if we take on h3, the side pawn doesn't win.

01:49And if we go g4, then black manages to bring the king in front of our pawn and it's a draw. So the only way to win...
